No hay Héroe sin Villano y en ocasiones solo hay villanos - There is no hero without a villain and sometimes there are only villains.

Nos volvemos a encontrar nuevamente, esta vez con algo diferente. Ayer leí un artículo que me gustó bastante del buen @ilazramusic y otro de mi amgia @vicokiwi donde trataban a grandes rasgos de la cultura pop del cine, sus géneros favoritos y los villanos del cine y la tv que más les interesan y pensé; “¿Bueno porque no? Yo quiero intentarlo”. Esta iniciativa es parte de Movie & TV Shows como parte de un concurso del buen grupo #OCD; aquí puedes encontrar más detalles Community Boost Contest #5: Highlighting Movies & TV Shows la iniciativa llamó poderosamente mi atención y avivó mis ganas de participar.

Pasé toda la noche pensando cuál de las preguntas responder sin hacer del post una biblia, géneros que me encanten tengo demasiados y debatirme entre ellos sería imposible, así que me he decantado por hablar de algunos villanos que creo yo son de lo mejor del séptimo arte. Obviamente y como pasa siempre hay muchos que se quedaran por fuera, pero quizás tengan su propio espacio en otro momento. Aquí vamos con cinco villanos increíbles de las series y el cine.

We meet again, this time with something different. Yesterday I read an article that I liked a lot from the good @ilazramusic and another one from my dear friend @vicokiwi, they talked about pop culture in movies, their favorite genres and the movie and TV villains they are most interested in and I thought; "Well, why not? I want to give it a try". I spent all night thinking about which of the questions to answer without making the post a bible, I have too many genres that I love and debating between them would be impossible, so I've decided to talk about some villains that I think are the best of the seventh art. Obviously and as always happens there are many that will be left out, but perhaps they will have their own space at another time. Here we go with five incredible villains of the series and movies.

El gran antagonista - . The great antagonist

Creo sin temor a equivocarme que muchas de las grandes historias, las grandes obras literarias y por supuesto del cine y hasta en los videojuegos cuentan a su vez con un gran villano, alguien que impactará en las vidas de nuestro protagonistas y en las de nosotros quienes vemos y vivimos la historia.

A pesar de que convencionalmente están hechos para que les odiemos o repudiemos, en ocasiones incluso llegamos a empatizar y simpatizar con aquellos personajes que se guían por el hilo de la maldad, sea por la razón que sea. Un buen villano es sin duda sinónimo de una gran obra, y también tienen a ser los personajes más complejos e incluso con más matices. Personalmente creo que son los que más emoción pueden llegar a transmitirnos, nos pueden hacer enojar, sentir pena, sentir alegría, angustia y más… Hay grandes películas y series que recordamos únicamente por ellos por sus villanos y en esta entrada quiero hacerles honor.

Como siempre mi criterio para escoger a los villanos de este post es la calidad de las obras en las que estos se encuentran, muchos ellos posiblemente ya tú los conozcas. Espero disfrutemos juntos este viaje.

I believe without fear of being wrong that many of the great stories, the great literary works and of course the cinema and even video games have a great villain, someone who will impact the lives of our protagonists and those of us who see and live the story.

Despite the fact that they are conventionally made for us to hate or repudiate them, sometimes we even empathize and sympathize with those characters who are guided by the thread of evil, for whatever reason. A good villain is undoubtedly synonymous with a great work, and they also tend to be the most complex and even the most nuanced characters. Personally I think they are the ones that can transmit the most emotion, they can make us angry, feel sorry, feel joy, anguish and more... There are great movies and series that we remember only for their villains and in this post I want to honor them.

As always my criteria for choosing the villains of this post is the quality of the works in which they are found, many of them you may already know. I hope we enjoy this journey together.

• 5 Adrian Alexander Veidt, Ozymandias – The Watchmen (La película movie).

Si tuviera que elegir al mejor personaje de todas las películas de superhéroes de todas las empresas y universos cinematográficos que hay, este sin duda pisaría fuerte, sin duda alguna Ozymandias para mí es de los villanos más grandes de este tipo de género cinematográfico.

Llamado por muchos como el ser humano más inteligente del mundo, aclamado como un héroe y miembro de los Vigilantes. Este personaje se nos pinta como alguien bueno al principio, de hecho, él en sí mismo se ve como alguien que hace el bien y busca la paz para el mundo (motivación ahora un tanto banalizada por culpa de ciertas películas). Este villano no solo ejecuta su plan con bastante paciencia y macabra precisión, sino que logra su cometido, dejándonos un final bastante amargo.

Ozymandias no es precisamente un supervillano convencional, de esos que tienen enormes naves, poderosos secuaces o grandes poderes, es una persona común, si bien es cierto que físicamente supera de sobra al ser humano promedio, ya que posee una gran condición física y una gran agilidad mental, quizás no sean un supervillano increíblemente poderoso, pero sin lugar a dudas sí que es un súper humano.

If I had to choose the best character of all the superhero movies of all the companies and cinematic universes out there, this one would undoubtedly stomp, without a doubt Ozymandias for me is one of the greatest villains of this type of cinematic genre.

Called by many as the most intelligent human being in the world, acclaimed as a hero and member of the Watchmen. This character is painted to us as someone good at first, in fact, he himself is seen as someone who does good and seeks peace for the world (motivation now somewhat trivialized because of certain movies). This villain not only executes his plan with considerable patience and macabre precision, but he succeeds, leaving us with a rather bitter ending.

Ozymandias is not exactly a conventional supervillain, one of those who have huge ships, powerful henchmen or great powers, he is an ordinary person, although it is true that he physically surpasses the average human being, since he has a great physical condition and a great mental agility, perhaps not an incredibly powerful supervillain, but he is undoubtedly a super human.

Watchmen en mi opinión es la mejor película de superhéroes hasta la fecha, se toma enserio así misma, su trama inicia y cierra de manera decente, sin verse truncada por un mal giro o un error, el final quizás sea un tanto flojo, pero sin dudas es una gran película y Ozymandias es un gran villano.

Los que lo hace estar en esta entrada es sin duda su carisma y su encanto particular, su habilidad para manipular la situación y a sus amigos, sin sentir remordimiento, es increíble como este hombre logra engañar a todos los demás Vigilantes, personas que lo apreciaban y creían conocerle, el villano siempre estuvo allí delante de sus narices, egocéntrico, astuto, despiadado y con una sed desmedida de grandeza y ambición.

Es un personaje de muchas perspectivas y bastante complejo, bastante terrenal, puedes verlo incluso como un héroe, o como una personal increíblemente vil, todo dependerá de la perspectiva porque a veces no hay héroes, no hay mal… a veces no hay nada, solo caos y Ozymandias es la razón en el caos.

Watchmen in my opinion is the best superhero movie to date, it takes itself seriously, its plot starts and closes in a decent way, without being truncated by a bad twist or a mistake, the ending may be a bit weak, but it is undoubtedly a great movie and Ozymandias is a great villain.

What makes him be in this entry is undoubtedly his charisma and his particular charm, his ability to manipulate the situation and his friends, without feeling remorse, it's amazing how this man manages to fool all the other Watchmen, people who appreciated him and thought they knew him, the villain was always there under their noses, egocentric, cunning, ruthless and with an excessive thirst for greatness and ambition.

He's a character of many perspectives and quite complex, quite earthy, you can even see him as a hero, or as an incredibly vile personal, it all depends on the perspective because sometimes there are no heroes, there is no evil... sometimes there is nothing, just chaos and Ozymandias is the reason in the chaos.

• 4 Pain el líder de Akatsuki (Naruto Shippuden).

Tengo sentimientos contradictorios con este personaje y en general con la obra de la que forma parte, si bien a mí me gusta mucho Naruto, no puedo negar que su historia contiene enormes flaquezas y muchos errores, sin embargo Pain está aquí porque no solo lo considero el mejor villano que tuvo este anime, sino que el arco del que forma parte es para mí de los que se pueden rescatar de este desastre.

Pain es poderoso, despiadado y no tiene reparo en hacer su voluntad, su presencia es increíble, desde el primer momento que supimos de su existencia supimos que sería importante y decisivo y por mucho tiempo yo mismo pensé que sería el gran enemigo final de la obra.

Así como el anterior, Pain no es un villano por serlo… Tiene sus ideas muy claras y una mentalidad pesimista, este personaje perdió la fé en el mundo ninja y quiere derribarlo y hacerlo por completo, está dispuesto a sacrificar cuanto sea necesario para lograrlo.

Fue Pain quien desveló ante nuestro protagonista las atrocidades que Konoha había llevado a cabo durante la guerra, cosa desconocida para Naruto, fue Pain quien nos dio la perspectiva de los bandos en la guerra, el villano de uno puede ser el héroe de otro y viceversa. Esto en la obra era un tema que jamás se había tocado, siempre se nos mostró a Konoha como una aldea bastante virtuosa dentro de un mundo mancillado por la guerra y el resentimiento; Pain le puso a Naruto los pies en la tierra y le hizo ver que así como él ve un terrible hombre malvado en él, Konoha fue el terrible villano para Pain

I have contradictory feelings with this character and in general with the work of which he is part, although I really like Naruto, I can not deny that his story contains enormous weaknesses and many errors, however Pain is here because not only I consider him the best villain that had this anime, but the arc of which he is part is for me one of those that can be rescued from this disaster.

Pain is powerful, ruthless and has no qualms about doing his will, his presence is incredible, from the first moment we knew of his existence we knew he would be important and decisive and for a long time I myself thought he would be the great final enemy of the work.

He has very clear ideas and a pessimistic mentality, this character has lost faith in the ninja world and wants to bring it down and do it completely, he is willing to sacrifice whatever is necessary to achieve it.

It was Pain who revealed to our protagonist the atrocities that Konoha had carried out during the war, something unknown to Naruto, it was Pain who gave us the perspective of the sides in the war, the villain of one can be the hero of another and vice versa. This in the work was a topic that had never been touched, we were always shown Konoha as a rather virtuous village in a world sullied by war and resentment; Pain put Naruto's feet on the ground and made him see that just as he sees a terrible evil man in him, Konoha was the terrible villain for Pain.

Sin dudas para mí un villano increíble.

. 3 El Xenomorfo (Alien, el Octavo pasajero)

Si bien no es un villano que tenga una visión compleja y única del mundo, sí que es un icono indiscutible del cine, y una leyenda del terror. Vi esta película cuando apenas tenía seis o siete años y nunca la olvidaré, el Xenomorfo fue mi primera pesadilla por culpa de una película de terror, y eso que ya había visto algunas pocas pero creo que ninguna me marcó tanto como esta.

Alien e octavo pasajero es una obra de culto y ha envejecido de una manera increíblemente bien, la disfruto siempre que la veo y nunca me disgusta, no deja de crear suspense, no deja de ser aterradora y el xenomorfo como antagonista sencillamente es genial, a pesar de que no aparece demasiado en escena pero es que esa es la idea, el suspense que genera el solamente saber que esta por allí acechando, dispuesto hacer pedazos a sus víctimas de las maneras más atroces es increíble. La manera en la que fue utilizado me parece un acierto total y de las pocas películas de terror y ciencia ficción que enserio valen la pena disfrutar

Definitivamente uno de los villanos más legendarios del cine y todo un icono de la cultura popular.

While not a villain with a complex and unique vision of the world, he is an undisputed icon of cinema, and a horror legend. I saw this movie when I was just six or seven years old and I will never forget it, the Xenomorph was my first nightmare because of a horror movie, and that I had already seen a few but I think none marked me as much as this one.

Alien the eighth passenger is a cult movie and has aged incredibly well, I enjoy it every time I see it and I never dislike it, it never fails to create suspense, it never fails to be terrifying and the xenomorph as antagonist is simply great, although it does not appear too much in the scene but that's the idea, the suspense that generates just knowing that it is out there lurking, ready to tear to pieces its victims in the most atrocious ways is incredible. The way it was used seems to me a total success and one of the few horror and sci-fi movies that are really worth enjoying.

Definitely one of the most legendary villains of cinema and an icon of popular culture.

• 2 Lord Tywin Lannister (Game of Thrones).

Game of Thrones siempre fue una serie en la que era difícil saber quién era un héroe y quien un villano, diría que más bien era una cuestión de metas y ambiciones de lo que estuvieran dispuestos hacer los personajes para verlas cumplidas, cada personaje se regía bajo un código de “moral” y eso era lo que les otorgaba matiz el uno del otro.

Pero si había alguien quien no tenía moral, ni contemplación era Tywin, sin duda alguna para mí el villano más prominente de la serie, es verdad que en GoT convivían muchos personajes con ambiciones bastante villanescas para nuestra forma de ver las cosas, pero fue Tywin quien puso en jaque a todos; Dejó a Joffrey maniatado en la corte, doblegó a su hija Cersey, derrotó a Robb Starck y terminó la Guerra de los Cinco Reyes utilizando artimañas, sobornos y engaños.

Era un hombre sin escrúpulos y tenía una meta muy clara, la supremacía de su casa sin importar las consecuencias, incluso su misma familia lo vio como un hombre maquiavélico y de cuidado y así lo fue siempre. Su muerte desencadenó caos total en el reino y él era el gran eslabón de la cadena que lo mantenía todo en su lugar.

Tywin fue un villano en todos los sentidos y para todos, tanto para sus seres queridos y familiares como para sus enemigos, un hombre despiadado, metódico, frio, calculador, megalómano y oportunista… Sin duda todo un personaje que murió tal cual como vivió.

• 1 El juez Claude Frollo (El Jorobado de Notre Dame de Disney)

Quería terminar este viaje con algo decisivo y épico pero a su vez inesperado ¿Acaso imaginarías a un villano de Disney aquí? Quizás si… Definitivamente el Juez Frollo es para mí el mejor villano de que ha representado Disney en todas sus películas.

No solo porque es la viva representación de la maldad encarnada, sino que es una maldad irracional, una maldad que no se puede detener con palabras, muchos villanos piensan que con sus acciones traerán de alguna manera paz y armonía al mundo con el sacrificio de otros, algunos incluso se justifican, algo normal de la condición humana, nos disociamos para no sentirnos mal cuando hacemos algo que sabemos no es correcto, otros pocos simplemente asumen las consecuencias de sus acciones y esperan su pase al infierno. Pero Frollo… Frollo cree que todas sus acciones son simplemente la mano divina de Dios, es un fanático religioso en toda regla.

Su ambición, su delirio por hacer la obra de Dios lo dejó totalmente ciego de poder, a este villano pocas cosas le importan y la humanidad no va en esa lista, de hecho él no siente remordimiento en intentar matar a Quasimodo apenas siendo un bebe, siente temor es al darse cuenta de que quizás solo quizás Dios podría castigarle por este mal.

La muerte de Frollo es bastante irónica y poética, muere cayendo en la locura, entregándose a sus más bajos instintos pero nunca sin perder la fé en que Dios castigará aquellos a quienes hacen el mal, todo eso justo antes de morir bajo circunstancias muy casuales…

I wanted to end this journey with something decisive and epic but unexpected. Would you imagine a Disney villain here? Maybe yes... Judge Frollo is for me the best villain Disney has ever portrayed in all its movies.

Not only because he is the living representation of evil incarnate, but it is an irrational evil, an evil that cannot be stopped with words, many villains think that with their actions they will somehow bring peace and harmony to the world with the sacrifice of others, some even justify themselves, something normal of the human condition, we dissociate ourselves to not feel bad when we do something we know is not right, a few others simply assume the consequences of their actions and wait for their pass to hell. But Frollo... Frollo believes that all his actions are simply the divine hand of God, he is a full-fledged religious fanatic.

His ambition, his delusion to do God's work left him totally blinded by power, this villain cares about few things and humanity is not on that list, in fact he feels no remorse in trying to kill Quasimodo as a baby, he feels fear is realizing that maybe just maybe God could punish him for this evil.

Frollo's death is quite ironic and poetic, he dies falling into madness, giving in to his basest instincts but never losing faith that God will punish those who do evil, all that just before he dies under very casual circumstances...

Frollo es clave para hacer de El jorobado de Notre Dame una de las obras maestras de Disney, un hombre crudo y despiadado que no responde a una causa concreta, que no tiene una meta, es el mal, el mal disfrazado de “bondad” el solo cree que es justicia divina, que lo que hace es correcto pero sin más… sin un objetivo, solo complacer a dios al menos así es como él ve las cosas. Es un hombre que hace el mal sin más… sin reflexionar sobre la marcha obsesivo, reprimido, extremadamente cínico, desalmado y xenófobo; lo que más me inquieta de este villano es que es alguien que fácilmente podría existir en la vida real y forma parte de una película dirigida a niños, nosotros fuimos esos niños.

El jorobado de Notre Dame es una película increíble, sinceramente para mí la mejor de todos los clásicos de Dinsey y Frollo es sin duda el mejor villano que esta casa ha representado.

Frollo is key to make The Hunchback of Notre Dame one of Disney's masterpieces, a crude and ruthless man who does not respond to a specific cause, who has no goal, he is evil, evil disguised as "goodness" he only believes that it is divine justice, that what he does is right but without more... without a goal, just to please God, at least that's how he sees things. He is a man who does evil without more... without thinking about it obsessive, repressed, extremely cynical, heartless and xenophobic; what disturbs me most about this villain is that he is someone who could easily exist in real life and is part of a movie aimed at children, we were those children.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame is an amazing movie, honestly for me the best of all the Dinsey classics and Frollo is without a doubt the best villain this house has ever portrayed.
