DC Cinematic Universe: A NEW HOPE

With the disastrous performance of the last few DCEU movies,Warner Bros had finally decided to start over, and put James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge of the new DCU.
I don’t know about you guys but I’m really excited about this new era for Dc movies, especially about James Gunn’s creative direction for the never-seen-before characters and stories.

What Needs To Change

I think we can all agree that the biggest problem with the DCEU was the absence of a true creative leader. They didn’t have a Kevin Feige of their own.
Fortunately with the hiring of James Gunn that changed and honestly, my hopes instantly went high when I heard the news.

Studio Interference

It is most ironic to me that sometimes the very reason than movies flop or fail to meet the expectations, is the studios themselves. I don’t know when they’re going to learn their lesson and finally accept the fact that there needs to be balance; filmmaking is an art. But it also is an industry.
Whenever this balance is disturbed, the movie struggles.

Does Anyone Even Want To Watch Superhero Movies Anymore?

I think yes, and no.
Yes, because I personally think that superhero fatigue is a myth. People will watch good movies despite the genre, and I don’t think that’ll change anytime soon.
And no, because people want to watch GOOD movies. So if ten superhero movies come out in a single year, and none of them are good, audiences won't show interest. Now, some people can mistake that with “Downfall” of that genre, or in this case, “Superhero Fatigue”; But really it’s simply because most superhero movies that were released that year or in a particular period of time, failed to meet the expectations and didn’t have the acceptable quality.

Superman, Symbol of Hope

I’m not talking about the literal symbol on Superman’s chest, no, I’m talking about the first DCU movie, Superman (formerly titled Superman: Legacy). With James Gunn directing the movie, there’s so much hope for this movie and also so much at risk. For if this movie fails and flops at the box office, I personally don’t know what the future of the DCU will be.

So, Are You Excited?

I for one can’t wait to see what this new era of DC movies will look like and honestly, have pretty high expectations. Yes, maybe it’s too soon to have any predictions about this cinematic universe and yes, maybe I’m setting myself up for disappointment, but I can’t just help it. I LOVE SUPERHERO MOVIES.
