Hello all movie lovers! Usually whenever I watch a movie it is because someone invites me to do so, but I have decided to take some time during the week to be able to watch the movies that catch my attention alone. One of my favorite genres when choosing a film is the romantic one, so I was somewhat curious and expectant about what I would find when I saw The Sun is Also a Star, a film I had had for a while. good time but one that I decided to see during a long trip of several hours.
The story tells us the difficult situation of Natasha Kingsley, a very intelligent young woman who is about to graduate, whose family is about to be deported after having done everything to stay in the country that offered her shelter during nine years. Everyone seems to have given up, except Natasha, who insists that there must still be a way to avoid going to Jamaica, her native country. So, against the decision of her parents, the girl takes advantage of her last day in New York City to try to mediate the situation between her and her family.
On the other hand, we have Daniel Bae, a boy of Korean parents born in the United States who has to fight with his parents' imposition of becoming a doctor, when he feels more inclined towards poetry. Daniel is quite sensitive, he believes in destiny and the fact that things happen for a reason. Still, he fears disappointing his parents, who have worked hard to give him and his brother the best life they could.
While Daniel leaves to receive a recommendation from an acquaintance to enter medical university, Natasha is on her way to request an urgent appointment at the immigration office, hoping that they can take care of her case. When Daniel's eyes focus on Natasha, he realizes that she is a different girl from the rest of the people who get carried away by the crowd and in the midst of his contemplation, he finds a "sign", which leads him to try approach the girl.
In this way and after meeting, Daniel tries to make Natasha fall in love with her while she does her best to stay strong enough to refuse love and settle the immigration issue, for a whole day.

I'm going to be very honest. I had high expectations about the movie, because, although I haven't read the book and I didn't have the slightest idea what it was about, something told me that it was a romantic movie and since I love those types of movies because I'm very cheesy, I thought that I would like to, but it was not the case.
And it's not that it's a bad movie, but in my opinion, it has many flaws or rather, things that were not well represented, which generates the opposite effect to what was expected.
For example, I will start by talking about Daniel, the character with whom I have the greatest conflict. Don't get me wrong, I love poetic characters who prefer to be guided by fate rather than their logic, but the way Daniel behaves seems more like a dangerous person. If someone came up to me on the street and behaved the way Daniel did, that would make me afraid. He's too intense and seems like a stalker. In general, the people I have met in real life with similar personalities tend to suffer from a kind of "momentary intensity", showing themselves completely interested in something, almost bordering on obsessive, and then, a few days later, becoming disinterested in it. matter or person entirely. I'm not saying that Daniel's character is this type of person, but the way he acts in the movie makes me believe that he is just obsessed.
Now Natasha as a character, I quite liked it. I love her determined and warrior personality. I identified a lot with her because she used to be very methodical.
But I don't know why, Daniel and Natasha never convinced me as a couple. It is not the fact that it is an interracial couple, I just feel that the feeling between them did not convince me at any time, even feeling forced. It's a shame, because being a romantic movie, that's the "click" I hope to find when I watch those types of stories that captivate me, no matter how bizarre or exaggerated their plots are.
I really like the message of the film, where we are shown that many times, the solution is to let ourselves be carried by the current of destiny or rather that "what is for you, will be given to you." We just have to trust that everything that happens is part of the process and we must strive for what we want, while remaining authentic.
Still, without having read the book, I think that the concept in movie mode is lost due to the points already expressed. In written form, everything seen in the film can be taken with more romantic overtones, since we know that many times, the narrative is made to be more attractive. Or maybe and without realizing it, I used logic too much in the movie and that's why I didn't manage to get completely hooked, because I admit that I got bored throughout the duration.
Anyway, each head is different, so if you like it, you can give it a try. Of course, I would read the book and I'm almost sure I'd like it more.

¡Hola a todos los amantes de las películas! Por lo general siempre que miro una película es porque alguien me invita a hacerlo, pero he decidido tomarme un tiempo en la semana para poder mirar las películas que me llamen la atención en solitario. Uno de géneros favorito a la hora de escoger un filme, es el romántico, de modo que estaba algo curiosa y expectante con respecto a lo que me encontraría al ver El sol también es una estrella, película que tenía desde hacía un buen rato pero que me animé a ver durante un largo viaje de varias horas.
La historia nos cuenta la difícil situación de Natasha Kingsley, una joven muy inteligente que está a punto de graduarse, cuya familia está a punto de ser deportada después de haber hecho de todo para mantenerse en el país que le ofreció cobijo durante nueve años. Todos parecen haberse rendido, menos Natasha, quien insiste en que todavía debe existir una forma para evitar irse hasta Jamaica, su país natal. De modo que en contra de la decisión de sus padres, la chica aprovecha su último día en la ciudad de New York para tratar de mediar por la situación de ella y su familia.
Por otro lado, tenemos a Daniel Bae, un chico de padres coreanos nacido en Estados Unidos que tiene que luchar con la imposición de sus padres de convertirse en un medico, cuando él, se siente más inclinado por la poesía. Daniel es bastante sensible, cree en el destino y el hecho de que las cosas suceden por una razón. Aún así, teme defraudar a sus padres, quienes se han esforzado arduamente para darle él y su hermano, la mejor vida que pudieron.
Mientras que Daniel sale rumbo a recibir una recomendación de un conocido para entrar a la universidad de medicina, Natasha se encuentra en camino a solicitar una cita urgente en la oficina de inmigración, con la esperanza de que puedan hacerse cargo de su caso. Cuando los ojos de Daniel se fijan en Natasha, se da cuenta de que ella es una chica diferente al resto de las personas que se dejan llevar por la multitud y en medio de su contemplación, encuentra una "señal", que lo lleva a intentar acercarse a la chica.
De éste modo y tras conocerse, Daniel intenta a enamorar a Natasha mientras que ella hace lo posible por mantenerse recia a negarse al amor y arreglar el asunto de inmigración, durante todo un día.
Clickear para leer mi opinion sobre la pelicula
Voy a ser muy sincera. Tenía altas expectativas sobre la película, pues, aunque no me he leído el libro y no tenía la más remota idea de qué trataba, algo me decía que era una película romántica y como me encantan ese tipo de películas porque soy muy cursi, pensé que me gustaría, pero no fue el caso.
Y no es que sea una mala película, pero a mi parecer, tiene muchos fallos o más bien , cosas que no fueron bien representadas, lo cual genera el efecto contrario al esperado.
Por ejemplo, comenzaré hablando sobre Daniel, el personaje con el cual tengo mayor conflicto. No me malinterpreten, adoro a los personajes poéticos que prefieren dejarse guiar por el destino, más que por su lógica, pero el modo en que se comporta Daniel, parece más el de una persona peligrosa. Si alguien me llegase en la calle y se comportase del modo en que Daniel lo hizo, eso me generaría miedo. Es demasiado intenso y parece un acosador. Por lo general, las personas que he conocido en la vida real con personalidades parecidas, suelen sufrir de una especie de "intensidad momentánea", mostrándose completamente interesados en algo, hasta casi rayar en lo obsesivo para luego, a los días, desinteresarse en el asunto o persona por completo. No digo que el personaje de Daniel sea éste tipo de persona, pero el modo en que actúa en la película, me hace creer que sólo está obsesionado.
Ahora Natasha como personaje, me gustó bastante. Su personalidad decidida y guerrera, me encanta. Me identifiqué mucho con ella pues, solía ser muy metódica.
Pero no sé porqué, Daniel y Natasha nunca me convencieron como pareja. No es el hecho de que sea una pareja interracial, sólo siento que el feeling entre ellos, no me convenció en ningún momento, llegando a sentirlo hasta forzado. Es una lástima, porque siendo una película romántica, ese es el "clic" que espero encontrar cuando miro ese tipo de historias que me atrapan, sin importar lo bizarras o exageradas que sean sus tramas.
Me gusta muchísimo el mensaje de la película, en donde se nos muestra que muchas veces, la solución es dejarnos llevar por la corriente del destino o más bien que "lo que es para ti, se te dará". Sólo debemos confiar en que todo lo que ocurre es parte del proceso y debemos esforzarnos por aquello que queremos, sin dejar de ser auténticos.
Aún así y sin haber leído el libro, pienso que el concepto en modo de película, se pierde por los puntos ya expresados. De forma escrita, todo lo visto en la película, puede tomarse con tintes más románticos, pues sabemos que muchas veces, la narrativa está hecha para que sea más atractiva. O a lo mejor y sin darme cuenta, usé demás la lógica en la película y por eso, no logré engancharme del todo, porque admito que me aburrí en todo lo que duró.
De todas formas, cada cabeza es un mundo, así que si es de su agrado pueden darle una oportunidad. Por supuesto, yo leería el libro y estoy casi segura de que me gustará más.

Me hiciste acordar de que quería ver esta película hace un montón de tiempo y todavía no lo hice, estoy como vos jajaja. Ahora me la baja un poco el saber que quizá no hubo mucha química entre los actores y eso de que el amor deba surgir tan rápido también es una limitante. De todos modos, me gustaría verla para sacar mis propias conclusiones, gracias por compartir ✨
Jaja Para que tú veas 😆 Es triste posponer durante un tiempo una película para que luego, no resulte lo esperado 🙃 pero como dicen "cada cabeza es un mundo" y a pesar de las opiniones de los demás, siempre es lo mejor no dejarse llevar y ver las cosas primero para poder obtener nuestra propia opinión, así que me alegra saber que a pesar de mis palabras, no pierdas tu ánimo de darle una oportunidad 😌 Algo me dice que ésta historia es mucho mejor en el libro y que simplemente no la supieron adaptar, ya que en ocasiones, no es fácil trasmitir lo que un autor escribe.
