Lately InLeo: The Everything App Quest Continues!

in LeoFinance6 months ago

There’s been quite a lot happening in the LeoVerse, so time for an update on what I’m up to, how Leo’s doing, and general musings…

First up, there was a rebranding a few weeks ago when LeoFinance became InLeo. This was a great move and one that I was waiting for. They had introduced Threads where you could post any content, and even allowed any subject in longer form posts too more recently. However, this was less well known and didn’t really work with it still being clearly named as a finance platform.

The options as I saw it was to either stick with the whole finance area and double down, or go the other route and open it all up. This they did, with it becoming InLeo and open to all. If finance and related subjects are your thing, don’t despair! It is still very much a central theme and still exists at the community level, it’s just now there is the choice and it can be segregated as you please.

They’re also turning InLeo into a slick app in its own right. Twitter/X style threads front and centre, then the long-form blog posts and articles available from the home page and as a tab on each user’s profile. It’s bringing the Web2 experience to Web3 with all that brings, which is vital for the masses to come on board.

Premium 100

@onealfa ran a contest recently encouraging people to sign up to LeoPremium and be in the first 100 to do so. Under a few of the ‘seats’ towards the end there were some prizes (delegation mainly) designated to whoever took that spot. He also did a draw when the 100 was complete for an overall winner.

Only turns out that was me! Lucky and grateful of course… and I took the staked Leo option. There were a couple of delegation options which may have worked well for others but I thought this was the soundest choice for me personally and how I see things going. There was also 6 months of Premium on offer which is nice of course but didn’t pack the punch of the others. I discussed this a little in this thread.

There are a few people complaining about Premium and many who love it. The thing is, if you want a premium service (for anything) and can afford it, go for it. If you don’t or can’t, then don’t. It’s not all that complicated. There have been some great explanations written about what happens with the 10 HBD, so it’s a circular situation rather than a money grab.

InLeo works fine as a regular user, but you just get a few more frills with premium. People may or may not be biased towards premium users, so that’s something you have to judge for yourself. It does show that someone believes in the platform and has put their money where their mouth is.

Then there’s the more important factor of motivating yourself to actually use it, get involved, and make yourself, others and the project a success. It’s a common business model and works well. Anything that gets people moving, active and pushing forward has to be a good thing, otherwise it’s just a few people sat around congratulating each other on what a great blockchain we have.

So if you’re in a club at the weekend, you wouldn't go and kick off at the people in the VIP section (I hope). Just enjoy the club, and leave them to it… maybe join them some other time. Perhaps there’s no champagne included or exclusive seating… but perhaps you just wanted to dance anyway. Each his own.

A shout out to the team who have done such a great job. It’s easy to criticise but very hard to bring this all together, and they’ve done a fantastic job and it’s only going to improve. We’re setting the scene for a UX as seamless as Web2 (or even better!) with it being built on Web3 which is the future not just for us but many people in the years to come.

That vision of The Everything App is being realised bit by bit. I haven’t seen it anywhere else be applied successfully. Elon is trying with X but he’ll never take it to where we’re heading. It’ll work great for what it is I’m sure, but will only ever be Web2.5 at best. There’s no other app on Hive (or other blockchains) that have come close, yet. They could well do, but InLeo is best positioned as I see it.

I believe this is the missing link and the best way to keep people engaged. For example, if you don’t post any long-form content for a few days, you can always be popping in and out of Threads, so you’re always in amongst it. This helps with consistency, branding and all that great stuff.

So @khaleelkazi and the team are right on their game, and a special mention to @taskmaster4450 who has done such a great job of promotion over the years. It’s his constant work that has kept people like myself interested, so hats off.

I’m building my stake and I’m making InLeo my main focus. I’m not forgetting wider Hive (it all feeds in anyway) and will continue to use other apps and front-ends, but Leo is offering the most right now, and where I’m most invested. Hive (in general) was never going to be the ‘killer app’, it’s simply a technology that is built upon, and the majority of users have no need to know or care about it. The future will be people joining and using particular applications and communities.

Some recent additions have been the LeoAds contract going live, Evergreen content becoming a thing (another important aspect that needed to be addressed for anyone using Hive), and instant indexing with Threads, as people don’t expect to wait for a thread to appear. The point is, each day there are tweaks, and we are all at the forefront watching it unfold.

It’ll be fun to look back on these days I'm sure, for now we should just enjoy it and contribute to our overall success as best we can.

All in all, we’re getting there. And this is good for the whole ecosystem… onwards and upwards! 🦁 🚀

Congrats on winning the prize. I think the Leo guys are doing great stuff. I do put up a few Threads as I don't always have something for a full thread. The Ecency team have their own thing going and it would be good if the two could integrate somehow.

I don't trust Musk to do the right things. He seems driven by his ego.

Have fun.

!BEER

Yeah, Musk is his own animal so we have to take all of what he does with a pinch of salt. Good to keep an eye on his antics as the best bits can be used, but not to be led blindly.

I don't use Ecency much. The phone app is the best (only) one out there so I do use that occasionally, but PeakD has usually been my favoured front-end on desktop.

You're right about them integrating, as Ecency has 'Waves' and it should all be combining together. But I guess that's the issue with decentralisation as much as we like the concept.

I'm sure it will all converge at some point…

Cheers!
