Why I Always Take Some 'Ice Cream' Money

One practice I've implemented in my play-to-earn journey across many different games is the concept of taking 'ice cream' money regularly.

Now I don't actually mean that I go buy ice cream with that money - but I could and that is what is most important. Compounding gains is fun, but realizing them into something tangible is just as important. My whole perspective on how play-to-earn gaming can actually succeed at a mainstream level is only when someone can play a game casually that buys them a cup of coffee at the end of the week - and actually does.

So now as I embark on this journey with trying to do more content creation on Hive I find myself wanting to follow a similar strategy. What's great about Hive is that you can be both a creator as well as curator, and you get rewarded for both albeit in different ways.

The only way to earn HBD is through upvotes on your content, and that is usually only half of the total rewards you receive as the rest is given as HP. As a curator, you only earn HP so that is automatically staked when claimed.

I don't have exact percentages yet of what I would take as my 'ice cream' money, but it would only be from the HBD portion as I want to grow as a curator and having as much HP as possible is the goal.

Ultimately, the reason I'm explaining all of this is because as I said in the opening, realizing some of the gains you make from the hard work and time you put in - whether it is a game, content creation, or curation is important. And having a game plan or strategy to make sure you do it whether the market is red or green is even more vital.

Build the habit now, while we are in the bear market. That way when we get back to the bull, you will be able to take some off the table at all time highs by being disciplined. That's my plan at least.

What's yours?

I've also been enjoying the HBD I receive as a reward for the content I've been posting to Hive (mostly brawl reports but also some speculative investing articles). However, instead of staking the HBD for 20% or selling for USD, I've been converting it to swap.hive and using it to pair with my vouchers from node ownership to participate in the hive:voucher LP with a nice return of around 40% in SPS. I still haven't reached a place where I am comfortable with my collection, so I find myself reinvesting most of my profits into Splinterlands game assets. But I think it is a good idea to set goals each quarter and make plans to achieve them so there are some tangible milestones for your play-to-earn journey.

That's a great move with the vouchers because it at least gives some utility for holding it while we wait for more promos or use cases. Just be careful with impermanent loss!

IL is what it is. Of course, it is worst when prices surge, but while things are mostly moving sideways, I should be OK.
