Back at Todd's home, the girls joke about Philip's supposed demise due to his absence. His luck changes when a handsome stranger named Philip Miller, an ex-military man, rescues him from the billboard. This new Philip quickly becomes the center of attention, especially among the women who begin to idolize him for his practical skills and charm.

The original Philip’s woes multiply as Todd grows protective of Melissa, and resentful toward the new Philip. The duo's underlying tension crystallizes when the new Philip proposes innovations for the community that seem to overshadow Philip’s ambitions. Philip finds himself relegated to the sidelines, especially as the group opts to distinguish between the two Philips by giving the original a new middle name, Tandy.
