To investigate the veracity of Hutchison's claims, a team from the Hollywood special effects company Digital Domain analyzed his video footage. Leslie Ecker, an Academy Award-nominated visual effects supervisor, concluded that many effects could have been easily staged. He suggested that simple tricks, such as inverting the camera or using electromagnetic devices, could recreate Hutchison’s extraordinary phenomena.

One example cited was the supposed levitation of a milk carton. Ecker proposed that hidden magnets could facilitate the carton’s motion. He also analyzed various other clips and presented theories about how the observed phenomena could be achieved through clever filmmaking techniques rather than genuine scientific breakthroughs.
