Part 5/7:
A poignant part of the celebration involved reenacting the historic call of Father Miguel Hidalgo in 1810, a pivotal moment in Mexico’s fight for independence. With voices raised in unison, participants shouted, “Viva la Independencia!” symbolizing their ongoing fight for dignity, freedom, and cultural identity.
Local clergy, including Father Juan Vargas, drew parallels between Mexico’s fight for independence and the community’s current resolve. He highlighted that, much like their ancestors, they are standing up against oppression—be it social, political, or cultural—through faith, unity, and hope.
