Part 3/11:

According to the nonprofit organization Open Doors, which monitors global Christian persecution, more than 12 million Christians have been displaced in Nigeria since 2009. This year marks the 16th anniversary of Boko Haram’s insurgency—a militant Islamist group aiming to establish a caliphate in Nigeria and the broader Sahara region. Over this period, the violence has caused an estimated 189,000 civilian deaths, with 125,000 Christians among the victims.

Data reveals that between January 1 and August 10, 2025, 7,800 Christians were killed and an equal number abducted, with states such as Benue and Nigeria’s Middle Belt among the hardest-hit regions. Notably, the Yalawata massacre of June saw 280 Christians murdered in a single incident.
