I always think about those little smartphone apps when I think about micropayments and stuff like that. I remember flappy bird was like $.99 when it first came out. Most people were like Pfft, $.99 that's nothing, I will happily pay that for some mindless entertainment. Then you look at the total number of downloads for the app and you realize that the developer is a multi-millionaire. Crazy stuff!

True. The Flappy Bird game had around 50 million downloads in 2014. Even if only 500 000 people would have downloaded it, then that is still $495 000 USD in the case of $0.99 USD per download. And Flappy Bird collected $50 000 USD per day in advertising revenue too.
Ah yes, advertising, I totally forgot about that!
