Transparency on Hive - DHF Funds

I support all initiatives to bring value to Hive and also help people in need around the world (as was done with the situation in Ukraine through the grants sent to @zirochka or the DHF proposal that was made by @ilysarazom and the funding made for the Ghana Wells project through @mcsamm), after all Hive can be about crypto but also about solidarity, nothing moves me against Venezuela or another country and I deeply regret the situations and living conditions there or anywhere in the world.

It is not because I live in Europe that I am indifferent to the world, we are all connected by land or water.

This post is the continuation of this interesting conversation with @demotruk, @acidyo, @guiltyparties, @manuelramos and @jonsnow1983 and I hope that from here we can come out with more and better ideas, transparency and a fair, equitable and obviously solidary distribution of DHF funds when appropriate.

As everyone knows, exists a DHF proposal to finance the @valueplan project initiative to have funds that can be invested in marketing and dissemination actions for our blockchain. That is a very good initiative since we really need to expose Hive to more people crypto or not crypto because each time I talk about Hive with friends or acquaintances who are even somehow involved in the crypto world they never know what and what the purpose of it is.

Current projects/events

Revenga

ValuePlan project definition:

‘Revanga’ is a short name for a special education school (autism and other special needs) in Venezuela that is presently in a decrepit condition. It also has a little bus for student transportation.

This is a recent project since the first txn related with the project it was done at 21st September.
Currently, It was already invested 5 401 HBD.

I saw a post related with the school transport reactivation. That is very nice as I wrote previously I support initiatives/projects that contribute to helping people who are almost in trouble as we did with Ukraine and we do with Ghana.

I am waiting to see the documentary related with the impact that this project is having in that school.

ExpoZulia

ValuePlan project definition:

These are several blockchain industry-specific events and conferences where we have partnered with BNB Chain and other notable platforms and projects. They are all aimed at blockchain enthusiasts and are set for specific audiences.

This project it is being run at least since 26th July, when it was done the first txn related with this.

Currently, It was already invested 11 099 HBD.

I really looked some information about how the project was going on and if the expected objectives were achieved or not, as well as understanding what exposure we were having with this project.

Caracas Blockchain Week (CBW)

ValuePlan project definition:

This is a massive blockchain conference to take place in Caracas, Venezuela in November. It lasts a week.

This was the most important marketing event, in my opinion, since it was a participation with speakers in main stage and a side event.

This event had a cost of 25 840 HBD.
I don't know the cost of thing on Caracas, but I think that was not too much expensive comparing with HiveFest that received 54 905 HBD.

I tried to search for some conclusions about CBW or some media articles, and I was not able to find. The only "articles" that exists about Hive participation on CBW are on Hive or were written by Hive users.

This makes it very difficult to understand that was/will be the impact in terms of new users, new investors, new projects or even commercial stores that were interested in accepting direct payments on Hive or HBD.

Rally Car

I don't know why, but this project it is not present on the detailed information in the last post published by @valueplan.

Currently, It was already invested 69 447 HBD, and it is being run since 4th July, when it was done the first txn related with this.
This is the most expensive project.

The initiative is good, but I think there is a big lack of information since we don't have any information about the project status and what was already achieved until now.
Since as it is the most expensive project, I was expecting the project to give more feedback about it during the course of the year.

I have also tried to found some media articles about this outside Hive, and I was not able to find it. So, it is very difficult to understand what were the benefits for Hive funding this project.

SWC

ValuePlan project definition:

The SWC only exhibits in notable locations with the aim of showcasing through sport and local athlete empowerment the ingenuity of Hive to potential investors. Exhibition locations are carefully chosen.

Currently, It was already invested 54 753.4 HBD, and it is being run since 9th March, when it was done the first txn related with this.
This is the second most expensive project.

I tried to search for some information about the project current status, but I was not able to do it since the last post created by @swc-oficial was more than 5 months old.

Ghana Wells

It is a solidarity project (like Revenga) with the aim of bringing drinking water to regions of Ghana that do not have access to it. Currently, 5 drinking water tanks have already been opened.

Currently, It was already invested 23 782.5 HBD, and it is being run since 17th March, when it was done the first txn related with this.

This was the only project here I was able to find the project current status since @mcsamm makes some posts when a new borehole starts to be designed and planned until the borehole it is opened.

I was also found several publications about this project on sites outside Hive:

This is the only project where Hive community it is able to find project information and see the exposure it gives to our blockchain.

Another thing I noticed is that when the Hive community (mainly people who are not physically in the country concerned) when they see the effective impact that Hive supported projects have on the world and the DHF funds being well spent they comment, share and realize that Hive goes beyond code is a supportive community.
Currently, I only see this behavior related with Ghana Wells project.

Transparency

In the initial conversation, I raised some concerns about the projects and Valueplan process that I will compile here.

1- Why almost all the projects founded are based on Venezuela?

As we can see that 4 of the 6 projects (Revenga, ExpoZulia, Caracas Blockchain Week and SWC) financed by ValuePlan are exclusively for Venezuela which raised the question if these financings were mostly for projects in that country since we currently don't have marketing projects in the USA, Russia or any country in Europe.

@guiltyparties replied

image.png

Maybe exists community members that have good ideas and connections to expose Hive in other countries like the USA, Russia, Europe or Brazil, but they don't know the existence of ValuePlan to discuss and share that projects.

2- How is the project submission process?

Maybe I have not search enough, but it was not clear to me how a project submission shall be done.

@danielvehe joined the conversation and replied

image.png

The kind of process it is not very transparent for everyone since the project strategy and goal it will only be discussed and shared in private.

I can understand the initial discussions they can be done in private but when it is decided the project will be founded by ValuePlan a post on Hive shall be done by ValuePlan or by the project managers.
This way everyone will know that will the project goal to be achieved and also promotes debate in the community where ideas to improve the initial approach defined can arise.

3- Audit Team

Since the founded projects are using community funds through a DHF proposal what means they are community funds, I think that shall exist an audit team, in the same way that we already have in Hive a project to validate plagiarism to protect the abuse of the reward pool, that will have the responsibility to validate if the funds are being correctly used and for the proposed goal.

This team could not contain any element involved in a project, nor in the acceptance of proposals by the ValuePlan and also cannot directly link (friends, acquaintances or family members) to people involved in a project or in the ValuePlan.

I debated with Guiltyparties:

In the same way that we can only validate the content of a post after it has been published, this principle applies here.
At the end of a project/event, it is always feasible and "easy" to be able to carry out the audit.

Regarding personal data on invoices, as I said above, they do not have to be published, only the audit team would have access to them after processing the invoice, it was deleted, giving rise to an entry in a control document with some comment.

4- Project Regular Updates

Since the projects are being founded with community funds, I think ValuePlan and the projects managers decide on a mandatory and regular frequency in which the project has to make posts to inform the rest of the community of the status of the project, if the expected objectives correspond with reality, points for improvement identified and conclusions that are being drawn along the way.

How we can evaluate the impact of the project on Hive exposure?

Any people will say that is looking for new users coming from that events.
Yes and No!
They are some KPI's that we can use to evalute the project impact:

  • New Hive users that came from the project/event;
  • Amout of traffic generated to a Hive website (like hive.io or whyhive.co or other landing page that were being created for it);
  • number of local companies that contacted to start to accept Hive/HBD;
  • number of companies that accepted to receive direct payments in Hive/HBD;
  • number of contacts for possible partnerships;
  • number of closed partnerships;
  • number of new hiveblocks followers after each event, Instagram and Twitter

I think your concerns are valid and your suggestions are simply common sense. Something here seems fishy and that GuiltyParties is making ridiculous excuses isn't something I would have expected from him. We need better oversight and need it as soon as possible.

I only look to ValuePlan as a project that has the goal to do marketing and spreading Hive to more places and getting more users, investors, or new partnerships with stores or other crypto projects.

I think transparency on this is essential, although the funds do not come directly from the pocket of the community, they are still funds that end up being exchanged for Hive and sold in the market to pay for the expenses of events/projects, creating sales pressure on Hive.

About @guiltyparties we still talking about this topic.

Hi, our project "Hive goes to School" is missing from the list.

Here are the publications of the project and the interviews in national media that we did. We are missing a radio interview on Friday that we will publish tomorrow.

Also missing is the closing post of the first stage with all the detailed record. We will publish it this week. We are waiting for the two visits to the media to make the closing post.

If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.

Hi,

I was not aware of this project.

Is it funded by ValuePlan? If so, I don't mention it because it wasn't present in the last @valueplan post.

Thanks for the information

This is very very interesting.

For some People... For others is not 😉

I do find this worrying that everyone on Hive does not know about this and the existence of Valueplan. I am puzzled as to who is vetting these projects and why is not more being said about them. A rally car with no info or photos or nothing is all I need to know as who is making these decisions?

The investment in the projects it is decided from valueplan key holders that includes blocktrades, Dan, guiltypaties and more 2 hive users that I dont recall the names.

The car has a litle logo in the side but it is enough for the amount investesd? 🤔🤔

No it isn't and talk about being taken for a ride. I have seen the car and this is unacceptable as for what was paid it should have been a Hive car and not some token Hive sticker which is barely visible. This is a joke and the key holders should be held accountable. If this was a company they would have been fired for this.

This is not a company and it is a decentralized blockchain where 5 People decides where to spend 400k/year and we dont have any kind of statiatics to know what is the return of it...

That is worrying when you put it like that as why do they get to decide? The rally car decision baffles the brain as who is going to recognise that as a Hive car? Surely a Hive wrap would have been the best option as this is pathetic.

They decide because they submitted an DHF proposal that is almost approved only using the Valueplan key holders HP.

I think the car will never recognise as a Hive blockchain asset 😉 the owner it is the person that have a governemt paper saying he owns the car.

With 100k I literally can put at least 4 portuguese Handball first division teams using hive.io in the team name that will appear in the newspapers and on televison (just to compare both things).

Yes I agree. I can get Hive on the rugby jerseys of the English Premiership teams which would obviously include all the tv coverage every weekend during the season. Boxers are also fairly easy to get on board and we could brand their shorts with Hive all over them.
