Reporting vs Insight

Everyone is a storyteller these days, myself included. It isn't necessarily out of a demand for it but rather our acceptance of the attention economy we currently live. The adage 'attention is currency' has never been more accurate with the digital explosion. People are literally cashing in being famous for the weirdest things these days.

With so much information overload on social media, there has been a dent on value and substance. The algorithm is wired to favor those who can grab attention most, not necessarily who prepares the most value. The mob prefers sensationalism whether we like it or not. People's attention spans aren't exactly what they used to be. I think it's because so much is being thrown at us in the first place that we need to adapt and adjust to. So even as a survival tool information overload has become somewhat necessary.

Yet for those who understand the true benefit of value, we seek it earnestly. I could spend a whole day doomsday scrolling on social media and remember nothing at the end of it. Yet some insightful article or content delivers value almost instantly - either prompting critical reflections or useful information to be digested and hopefully applied.

There is a caveat. Substance isn't free and comes at a cost, for those who know its value. It is why some of the more gifted writers on Hive for instance have thrived since the early days compared to the rest of us. It also must be actively sought out through the swarm of useless information. I think a lot of people are leveraging on this, but we could be a lot more. There are people who still value substance, and are ready to pay top dollar for it.
