When i heard about the Colonization program by the SpaceX founder i thought it's completely ridiculous. Elon Musk plans on colonizing mars in the next 40-100 years, well this project started 2006 and currently I guess he is 53 years old. What i don't get is how he plans on colonizing it at the age of 93. But on second thought, maybe others are being trained currently to carry out his legacy,
But i think it might be possible though not because it sounds outrageous but because the other planets are gas giants expect for mercury, venus and mars. Even so there are still circumstances and disadvantage why it might be impossible to colonize these planetsaq
Take mercury for example that is always blasted with solar radiation and has a low surface gravity which might be detrimental to the health if exposed for long. The worst part is it has no water anywhere. Or venus that has a thick atmosphere, active volcanoes and sulfuric acid clouds. Mars however isn't left out,
Though when you look at the reason for the mars colonization program its a good one. When we talk about backup civilization Elon believes that existence on mars could be a way to ensure continous survival of humanity incase of catastrophy such as deadly pandemic, or nuclear war. However in the economic side of view it can be beneficial in terms of developing new job opportunities in new industries you know working and living on another planet.
Staying in mars might or will cause serious health problems because of its low surface gravity, its thin atmosphere, plus lack of magnetic fluid causes high levels of solar radiation, it produces big sandstorms and is very cold. Under these circumstances I wonder how anyone can live in a place like this. But if these might be compromised who knows maybe Elon got it all figured out right? Because it clearly shows that living on Mars requires a whole lot of cooperation and all the resources and current technology of every nation. In my opinion nothing is impossible.
