This is the #66th edition of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

In the Spotlight

Maya Protocol Integration, Arbitrum LEO, LeoDex

This is how the situation stands as of the time of writing:

  • Arbitrum LEO should be working
  • It was integrated into the Maya Protocol, along with a LEO-CACAO pool
  • LeoDex, which is a multi-chain swapping interface powered by Maya Protocol, was rolled out in a soft way
  • The LEO team also included what they called the Hive Aggregation Technology (HAT) into LeoDex, which will allow Hive/Hive-Engine tokens to be swapped with supported coins and tokens from the Leodex interface, inter-chain, via the LEO tokens (from Hive-Engine and Arbitrum) and CACAO on Maya

A few hours before the time of writing, here's the status of the LeoDex's features and bugs, as added on Threads by Khal:

He advises people to test with small amounts for the time being! For example, I've added some ETH fee on Arbitrum using the "faucet" provided on the LeoDex interface, and, although the transaction was successful on both Hive-Engine and Arbitrum, it doesn't show that I have any ETH in my Arbitrum wallet on LeoDex, and transactions involving Arbitrum continue to fail for the lack of fees (#feedback). Note that in the list above displaying assets from the wallet is in the category "not working".

On the Hive integration, in the list above it says HIVE -> Any Asset (supported) works, but vice versa not yet. Also, the wallet doesn't show your Hive holdings yet. Also, note that Arbitrum assets to and from anything don't currently work, and that includes LEO.

They are still working on integrating pools, but I see they already started to add liquidity:

Before they integrate pools on Leodex, I'm not sure where you can see it. I looked on Asgardex, the only other Maya DEX I have been using, and it doesn't show yet.

Looks like the word you should remember these days regarding tests on Leodex is caution until more testing is done and the interface is more stable.

Hive at Jalisco Talent Land 2024 and Blockchain Land in Guadalajara, Mexico

@starkerz @theycallmedan @manuphotos presented for our ecosystem at Jalisco Talent Land 2024 at the beginning of April, the first time Hive attended this event. If I understood correctly, there were 40k participants, 30k+ of them in the free recreational area.

Matt and Dan held a conference about HBD, which can be watched here (on a low volume) at minute 10:40.

Manuel's workshop can be watched from the same video at minute 7:00. During the workshop, but not on the video, it seems that Manu onboarded 15 people at once.

From another post we found out that several projects were interested in building on Hive and some investors looked into our chain.

@josepimpo even sold a book he contributed to for HBD on Jalisco Talent Land - Blockchain Land.

Hive Sucre Introducing the Ecosystem to Local Tourism Sector

Hive Sucre is holding a series of workshops directed at the local tourism sector and service providers from Sucre. I like their new approach, tourism and related services can be big businesses, and they have a great networking/publicity effect.

Spend HBD Initiative Introduced in Ghana

At the advice of @starkerz, @mcsamm decided to invite business owners from Ghana to join Hive and spread the word about it, so they can benefit from HBD as a fast and feeless payment system. He first onboarded a national courier service in Ghana (excellent choice!), and then, a food and decorations business for events. Both in the service industry. Both have high interactions with lots of people.

How to deploy your first VSC Hive Smart Contract

@vaultec has created a guide for those who want to deploy their first smart contract on the VSC testnet. Right now, deploying smart contracts is free, but later on, as the network stabilizes, there will be a HBD fee associated with this operation.

Waivio's Founder Interviewed

Alex Gruntsev, the founder of Waivio, was interviewed at StartUp Podcast PH, and it was one of the best interviews from their Hive series, in my opinion, from the ones I watched, because I haven't seen them all. I really loved listening to it, and hopefully, Waivio will lift off. The niche seems very well chosen, and Alex has a good plan.

Monitoring Performance Metrics By Witnesses

@themarkymark published a new guide to help witnesses, this time to monitor performance metrics on their witness nodes.

Splinterlands Bitcoin Halving Promo Event

After the failed proposal to do this in collaboration with the SPS DAO, Splinterlands put out a promo event for the Bitcoin halving on behalf of the company alone. Two promo cards will be for sale in the event starting on April 16th, for 15 days, one legendary (Byron Fyatt), and one rare (Henchling Enforcer).

Byron Fyatt is sold at 31.25k DEC and Henchling Enforcer at 3.125k DEC for 1 BCX, which are significant numbers to mark the Bitcoin halving event, and less important for the actual comparable value of the two cards. Vouchers can be used to reduce the price of the promo cards by up to 50%, where each VOUCHER reduces the price by 50 DEC or credits.

There will be a leaderboard and prizes to be won similar to the previous burn event (even though this is not a burn event and the company keeps the revenue). Read the details.

Rising Star Approaching Its 4th Birthday

They introduced a new anniversary card, PRO lesson (to upgrade PRO cards), and yes, even a future game overhaul that will include land... Read more!

Vienna Meetup

Looks like there is a monthly meetup in Vienna. I didn't know it was monthly, but I read about a few of them in the past. This time will be on April 25th, at a nice restaurant in Sechshauserstraße 75,1150 Vienna, at 7pm. Thanks for the English summary at the beginning, saved me from using the AI since I don't know German.

Hive Run Participated in their First Relay Race. Collaborations Ahead.

They went with a team of 3 men and 1 woman and finished 9th in their category. They calculated that if they went with a team of 100% women, they had the chance to 3rd place in that category. Looks like they are serious about this. Check this out!

On a different occasion, representatives of Hive Run met with those from another running club, who are not on Hive. They decided to collaborate, which means some people will be onboarded to Hive...

Helping a School in Venezuela

More than the project itself, this post is a testament to life/commerce in Venezuela. Having two parallel currency exchange rates for dollars running in the country, and some shops only accepting the higher and unofficial rate because they don't want to lose to hyperinflation, gives another dimension to the type of issues people in a country with hyperinflation have to deal with on a daily basis.

After Coinbase and Kraken, the SEC Goes After Uniswap

The difference? Simply put, Coinbase and Kraken are CEXes, Uniswap is a DEX.

The similarity? All of these are US-based companies. Turns out logically that if you are such a company, you are a point of failure when providing the development of a DeFi protocol and the most important interface to use it. Of course, the SEC is yet to win any of these lawsuits.

Let's see where this goes.

Kraken Will Delist Monero...

... in Ireland and Belgium. When I read this title, it was just as it is mine, so it seemed more radical. When you add the two countries where it will be delisted, it doesn't seem as bad, if it wasn't a trend for Monero. But maybe this trend will in the end strengthen Monero instead of destroying it.

It does seem the first visible casualty of the new AMLR being developed in the EU, but I expect more will follow because that piece of legislation has many traps in it.

Dive into the details.

The Leodex news is exciting. Seeing the different possible swaps are encouraging. I will wait for it to be more stable though. Seeing the SEC go after the CEX really shows how important having DEX is. Binance is banned in the PH as well, so Leodex can be a viable option.

Waiting is probably the best choice at this point.

Hopefully, Khal is a small enough target, so they won't bother. But if he/LeoDex grows... 😀

I wonder if DEX can be a target though? They don't usually hold a lot of assets, and they don't offer securities.

Is Uniswap a DEX, for example? I mean, they created the Uniswap protocol, that anyone can pick up and develop on, even if they go away, but their interface, which is the biggest DEX on Ethereum, is a different deal. Same for interfaces of INLEO or LeoDex. Protocols generally can't be censored/controlled in a decentralized ecosystem, but interfaces can.

Regarding whether they should be targeted or not, the SEC didn't care much about that.

I guess that's a good example. Staying under the radar it is.

Hello, @gadrian and thank you for all your updates from last week. There are so many positive updates! I shared this post on my blog and many of the posts you shared on here and I reblogged them. I know what you mean about LeoDex not being out of the woods yet from bugs that need to be worked out. I'm not planning to use it now. I am pretty angry at the SEC! I don't think it's any of their business. They just want to be cruel. Anyway have a great weekend! Barb 😊🌟🌟👍 #ctp

Thanks for the reblogs, Barb!

Yeah, the SEC has its agenda and makes up its own rules (because there certainly doesn't exist a law that can apply to crypto) and has little to do with what has been doing for years.

Yes, that's so true. We need crypto experts to help the government understand how good it is and how it could help.

It's interesting to see how the LeoDex will go and I didn't know that Rising Star was planning to release land.

Rising Star was planning to release land

It seemed like a scaled-down version of what they try to do in Splinterlands. Something like places where artists/bands can pay to sing if I understood correctly at a brief read. But trying to accomplish something small and delivering it is better than aiming for high and not delivering it.

I’m glad Hive participated in their first relay race
Must be a good one
