Signs Of Spring Sunday

in LeoFinance16 hours ago

This week has been a rough one, but there's still signs of the impending season change all around! In fact, as today was the first day I felt like I was somewhat sentient, I had to tend to some very overdue plant chores.

The first order of business was to get my ranunculus corms soaking and sprouting.

After a three hour H2-Plump-O, my corms looked less like a mummified alien's feet and more like something a flower stalk would grow out of. I then sprinkled some starting mix in a pan I got from the Dollar store, set the soaked corms in there, and sprinkled more mix over the tops of the corms. I put the lid on after giving it all a light soaking, and placed them in my laundry room to sprout, as it's the coolest room in my house and ranunculus likes the cooler temps. It's still too cooler temps to put them outside, so we'll see if they sprout in here.

While I was getting some water to sprinkle on the corm soil, I took a peek at my little begonia transplant. It's got new growth! This makes me happy because it's going to go live in my gigantic blue ceramic planter on the porch and will hopefully be a bloomtastic beastie just like its mother plant was all last summer.

With it being unseasonably warm here (It was 63 F yesterday!), I can't help it and step outside once in a while to get some of that glorious sun on me. When I went out to take the trash out, I gazed at my very squishy driveway. Yep, it's definitely mud season...

But I see other signs that make me even happier though, over between the house and my woodshed is a flower bed made around a stump from the 1910 fire. In that bed is a rhubarb plant, and yep, sure enough, with all this melty warmth the rhubarb has started to come to life.

I feel that statement in my bones.

Which is nice, because my bones have been on fire for the last couple months.

Tomorrow, after class it's time to transplant the pepper sprouts, they are all coming up nicely, and I even remembered to bring in the potting mix to warm up so they don't get their own version of the polar bear plunge. My new seed warming mats are working hard to get the snapdragons and straw flowers to germinate, and the hubs, the daughter, and the boy are all amiably talking smack to each other in the other room.

It's a most pleasant almost spring Sunday...

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's currently lightly dusted with taco seasoning and a hint of potting mix iPhone.

Hope you get a good yield from your hardwork.

Glad you are feeling better! I had not known about the corms. I might have better luck with the plant if I'd had corms... That's great the begonia has taken off!

I need to check to se if the mesclun has come up yet...
