Hey folks.

A Japanese cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin shared that the exchange lost $305 million (48 billion yen) of Bitcoin after a hack.

According to DMM Bitcoin in a blog post on its website stated 4,502.9 Bitcoin "leaked" out of the crypto exchange. Measures have been take by the exchange to avoid further unauthorized outflows.

The hacker divided up the stolen Bitcoin over 10 different wallets in batches of 500 Bitcoin, a data shared by Blocksec, a security firm.

DMM Bitcoin stated, "Please be assured that we will procure the equivalent amount of BTC equivalent to the outflow with the support of the group companies and guarantee the full amount,".

All spot buying have been blocked on the exchange, and withdrawals of Japanese yen "may take more time than usual."

Prior to this hack, in the year 2024, over $473 million had been lost to crypto hacks. This is the second largest hack in the country, as in 2018 Coincheck was hacked for 58 billion yen.

The exchange has shared that it will guarantee the full funds stolen. Let's see if the customers get their funds back from the cryptocurrency exchange DMM Bitcoin as this is something that would really hurt the credibility of the exchange if it fails to refund its customers.
