Does anyone have a recommendation for a Solana wallet?

With January 15th coming up soon, I realized that I haven't claimed the tokens that I bought using the candies that I get for checking in each day. I haven't checked in as often as I would like but I was still able to buy some of the airdrop but I came across an issue: I need a Solana Wallet and I don't exactly have a hardware wallet either. Honestly, I am not really sold on Solana either because FTX was one of the VCs funding the entire operation but it's required for the airdrop.

Access Protocol Airdrop

$ACS is a token issued on the Solana blockchain. Upon redemption, please follow the instructions and provide your Solana wallet address via the form by January 15, 2023 (11am SGT / 3am UTC / 10pm EST / 7pm PST)

When I go to the claim page, I see this there and I need a Solana Wallet. I just want to claim these tokens because I earned them using my candies and I haven't really worried about anything else.

$ACS received from this airdrop will be non-transferable and instantly staked in CoinGecko’s pool, granting access to Gecko Ramblings newsletter. Users will be able to redeem and transfer rewards generated through staking.

Also, going through the page, people should know that the airdrop itself is staked directly to their pool and we can only claim the rewards from this pool. So I don't even think I need to move any SOL to this wallet address unless the rewards I get make it worthwhile.

Solana Wallet Question

Now the question that comes to me is what Solana Wallet is good? The first one that I saw was Phantom but when I was reading those google reviews, I came out a little skeptical about this wallet in general. It was full of people saying that someone hacked their wallet and stole their SOL or NFTs.

Next, I saw something called SolFlare but I wasn't sure what to make of it because one of the top results that I got after researching is about how bad the UI is and that there are better alternatives. At this point, I just kind of gave up. I am left with more questions as to what would be a good choice and I think it might be better to see what the people here on Hive have to say about a good wallet choice. At least, I trust the people here more than some reviews or some Reddit posts.

Conclusion

It looks like the Coingecko airdrop requires a Solana Wallet and I am lost because Metamask is not a valid option. The reviews and research that I spent into this have only caused me to be more confused than when I started and there are only a few days left to get the address in and get that airdrop. So if anyone does have a good suggestion, let me know. I haven't used much outside of Hive, WAX, and Metamask for my crypto-related wallets (which doesn't include exchanges because I don't own them).

Feel free to leave a comment if you read my post. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.

If Solana is an EVM compatible chain you might be able to use MetaMask, but I don’t know to much about Solana either. I guess I better research it tomorrow because the 15th is approaching fast.

Solana is not EVM compatible so that is the issue. Otherwise, I would just use Metamask.

At least they finally did something with the Candies maybe I should have kept claiming. I'll have to log in and sus it out. Solana isn't that good of a chain though. I'll sus out a wallet

Yea. It's something free so I think getting a wallet and claiming it is a better option compared to throwing it away.

The time I tried Solana I used the Phantom wallet. Worked like metamask.

It's the wallet with the most negative reviews so I have been a little scared. I'll give it a try if SolFlare doesn't work later.

I have trued Solflare and Phantom a long time ago, did not face any issue, but after moving to Hive, I barely see those wallets have any usability.

I think SolFlare seems like the better option for me. All I need is something to store it and I'd rather not have my wallet security compromised like those reviews for Phantom.

Then you should have 2 or 3 wallets, one that you use to store SOL and one that you may use for sending and receiving assets or give permission to dAPPs. Better security that way.

Well, my plan was just to use that wallet to receive assets. I don't plan on moving any SOL over to that wallet unless I feel that the costs are worth it. I don't really plan to worry about SOL until later.

In this case 1 wallet is good.

Coingecko airdrop? I missed this. I have thousands of candies ....do you have a link please?

I use Solflare with no issues mate . Easy to use and set up on android :-)

Here you go buddy! Enjoy. Not sure what they will be worth as they seem to be free but lets see how it goes.

Thank you! You've all saved me as I just religiously click on the points each morning when I check prices. I have 19000 gecko points so let's see. Usually all this point collecting and airdrops pass me by so thanks again :-)

Well, here's to a bright and happy 2023 hopefully

Thanks. I'll give SolFlare a try. The bad reviews about it were mainly about usability and it seems to do a decent job of securing people's addresses.

It looks like someone has already answered the airdrop link.
