My Favorite Coin in my Stack.

Having been completely stuck for ideas of what to post about for ages now, I spotted a challenge by @silverd510 to show off your favorite coin. I have not really posted much about precious metals, but have been picking up some for the last couple of years.

Most of my purchases have been purely to add weight, not so much for the collectability of them. However, in my last buy, I did branch out a bit and buy something different:

Winged Victory from Perth Mint.

So This is my favorite, by far. It is a 2011 1 oz silver proof high relief coin. With a mintage of 3000, the Perth Mint describes it as follows:

Featuring a supremely detailed design by internationally renowned coin engraver John M. Mercanti, this extraordinary high relief silver coin celebrates Nike, the Greek mythological goddess of victory.

So, I guess when I saw it, my thoughts were...

"Just Do It".

Anyway, the Perth mint is still selling these, and have even put it on sale. You can see for yourself here

So why is it my fav?

Simply because it is the nicest coin in my little stack. I only started buying silver (and a little gold) in the last couple of years, and while I have more valuable items (some bigger coins including a 5 oz, and a couple of small gold coins), this one is definitely the nicest, and the smallest mintage. I am hoping that down the track it gains some collectable value, although I don't really know if that is likely or not - I'm out of my field of experience here.

Once I received it, the coin itself matched my expectations. It's the only "high relief" in my stack, and It is just a pretty in real life as the images appeared.

The coin's outstanding high relief reverse depicts Nike in Art Deco style. Honouring an unseen hero with a victory laurel in the palm of her right hand, Nike's muscular figure is enveloped in a beautifully symmetrical representation of feathered wings. Also included on the reverse is the inscription WINGED VICTORY and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.

I was drawn to the design as soon as I spotted it, while scrolling through the collector coin section. It jumped out at me and I had to add it to my order.

Anyway, that's my fav, by far at the moment.
