This Noob Can Crypto || How I Imported My Wallet

One day I had tokens in my Idex Wallet, the next day the tokens were unlisted and they disappeared. First, let me give you some back story to this Noob. True I have been on Hive for a little over 3 years, so I should be a pro by now, right? Not quite. I’d take content creation over chart canoodling anytime and I actually did.

One day, a dear friend whom I met on this very blockchain invited me to check out Uptrennd. With a lot of hand-holding, I bought some 1up token and created an Idex wallet as Uptrennd does not have its own wallet. (How I have been spoilt by Hive).

Then 3 days ago, I jumped into Idex and poof, just like a rabbit in a magician’s hat, all my 1up tokens had disappeared. So, of course, I checked with Idex Support to find out what had happened and this is what they said...

By chance, I had just signed up for Trust Wallet as it was time I started learning more about crypto. Hey, it’s on its way to mainstream, I better not be left behind right? When The Hubs who has never been interested, “too volatile” starts asking how to invest in Bitcoin; when the rooms in Clubhouse talking crypto are buzzing; I knew I better stop procrastinating and start learning. It would be too embarrassing to say yes, I have been crypto-ing but never went beyond content creation really.

So back to my missing tokens, I nervously read and reread posts, watched videos over and over again, put on my lucky socks and got to it. Off to etherscan I went.

➡️Keyed in my wallet address in the search tab (and true enough I could see my 1up there)
➡️In the Overview Box, I clicked on the token and clicked 1up on the drop-down menu
➡️Clicked on "Write Contract"
➡️Clicked on “Transfer” and pasted my “1up address from trust wallet”, and my 1up in Gwei as the videos and posts instructed.

All that was left was to click on “Write Contract”, supposedly the last step.

I froze. What if it was wrong and the tokens go missing into Crypto Neverland. Don’t forget, I have always had some hand-holding with wallets and exchanges and here I am, trying to figure this out on my own.

I immediately called upon @dreemsteem. “Help” I pleaded. Ok, I didn’t have to plead. I just knocked 3 times, and she jumped in at the first knock. She got @penderis in and after a comedic Q&A, he taught me a completely different way to import my Idex wallet.

I did get stuck on a couple of the instructions and my 12-year-old helped me figure it out (are they born with this new tech code in their DNA? geez!!) The instructions from @penderis

➡️Go to Trust Wallet (or whichever wallet you want to import to I suppose)
➡️Click on “Settings”
➡️Click on “Wallets”
➡️Click on “+” on the top right corner
➡️Click on “I already have a wallet”
➡️Click on “Ethereum”
➡️Choose either Keystore or Private Key for they are the only two that can import your wallet
➡️Key in/paste the necessary numbers/letters of the wallet you want to import
➡️Click Import

And Wallah, like magic all my tokens from the Idex wallet, was right there. Just like the rabbit in the top hat, they appeared at the end of the magic show.

OK, maybe this is as simple as ABC and DoReMi to some of you, but to me, I felt like I had figured out that Add Math problem that made me hate Add Math.

When @penderis casually said, “That’s decentralised. It’s always there,” and then when the tokens popped up as he said it would, I knew I would use that line on friends who asked :D

Of course, as long as you have all your keys. “Don’t lose them and don’t show them to anyone,” he said as we ended with a hurrah. That part I already knew, promise.

I am still learning this Blockchain Beast but I can shake off that Noob title once and for all. Besides, I have my little helper to lean on as a fallback.
