What Is GHAWG?

#GHAWG is short for "God's Hog: A Watchful Guardian." This fictional story tells how David Guardia, a courier and business owner from Bayonne, New Jersey, US moved into the next phase of his life after spending the final ten years of his ailing father's life helping him.

"If I'm home with tools, sure," I said. "But I was about 350 miles from home with no spare parts."

"You were lucky to find K. C.," Lindsay said.

"Indeed."

🏍️ In the case of David Guardia, the Harley-Davidson two-wheeled motorcycle he had purchased used a solenoid as part of the starter mechanism. On a motorcycle as expensive as some cars, the cost of a solenoid is trivial. Once discovered to be a problem, failure to replace this cheap item would have turned the Harley-Davidson motorcycle into a scandalously expensive paperweight. Without the ability to start the motorcycle, the rider can't ride. This is why what ailed David's first Harley-Davidson was referred to as a Solenoid Cascade Failure. This is the situation K. C. Callaway helped David avoid.

🏍️ For a long time, I had no name for the motorcycle mechanic from East Palestine, Ohio, US (although I made a point of having her be STEM-oriented in a male-dominated field). It was only recently that I came up with her name, and that was when I discovered the real name for the professional wrestler known to many WWE pro wrestling fans as The Undertaker. Once I had the last name chosen, it didn't take me long to chose her given names (Kaylee Chloe). This also gave me the added bonus of having the initials sound like a name when vocalized, and the resulting name happens to be unisex.

Given the both long and crazy day we had, we thought it was a good idea to stay in Gary for a day before resuming our ride to UNC. We spent the day reviewing GoPro footage taken by Sanjay & Lionel during our ride along Route 66.

🏍️ The ride east along Route 66 is in the books. The day in Chicago will be a topic of discussion for days. It was time for Felix Legion to get a reset before riding east toward University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to drop off The Kids. The GoPro footage Sanjay Rampersad and Lionel Odunsi had been recording was more for themselves than it was for Felix Legion, which is why David was reviewing it with them. Should David want to make use of some of that footage for his own purposes, he would need to get their permission first.

After reviewing the GoPro footage, we shifted gears to play D20 and UNO. For the first since we started playing, Rhonda won a game of D20. As we were playing UNO, talk turned to superheroines of the cinematic comics universes.

🏍️ This zapfic entry is both a transitional zapfic entry and a reminder of a few things from earlier in Rat Bike. From the earliest days of Rat Bike (actually, GHAWG since there was no GHAWG Universe back then) UNO has had a place in the zapfic serial. As far back as Big Sur and Clint Eastwood territory ("Pebble Beach, Carmel, and Malpaso Creek"), The Kids have been playing a game I call "D20" because it is played with one 20-sided die. For documenting the ride east along Route 66 from Santa Monica in Los Angeles, California, US to Chicago, Illinois, US, Sanjay Rampersad and Lionel Odunsi (The Kids) purchased Go Pro cameras while The Newlyweds (David Guardia and bride Rhonda Bella Guardia) were engaging each other in their new roles as husband and wife.

"Jane Foster is worthy enough to wield Mjolnir," said Hank.

"--but her lifespan is limited, said Frank. "Captain Carter is just as powerful as Captain America."

"What say you, David?" Hank asked.

"Wonder Woman; I'm a DC guy."

🏍️ At the time I wrote this zapfic entry, I had finished watching Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. It was this movie which introduced Captain Carter to me. Most people familiar with the Marvel Cinematic Universe know Peggy Carter as Agent Carter and love interest of Steve Rogers, Captain America. In this Doctor Strange movie, we are introduced to an alternative Peggy Carter, one who had taken the Super Soldier Serum rather than Steve Rogers. Since Marvel Comics had a character known as Captain Britain, her character was given the name Captain Carter. Before having seen this Doctor Strange movie, I had seen bits and pieces of the 4th Thor movie, Thor: Love and Thunder. Thor expressed a desire for his hammer, the mythical Mjolnir, to take care of Jane Foster no matter what. Mjolnir listened. Somehow Mjolnir discovered that Jane Foster had Stage 4 cancer, and it called to her to find it. Once she tracked down the fractured Mjolnir in New Asgard, it reconstituted itself and found her worthy of wielding it. As a result, when Jane Foster wields Mjolnir, she is transformed into Lady Thor. As for Wonder Woman, her reputation speaks for itself.

We went west a bit to Hammond from Gary before we took Indiana 41 south past towns such as St. John, Cedar Lake, Enos, Morocco, Beaver City, & Kentland. Before reaching Earl Park we switched to Indiana 52 to avoid Interstate 65.

🏍️ This is the first of three travel entries as Felix Legion rides from Gary, Indiana, US to Dayton, Ohio, US. One reason I add these entries to the zapfic queue is to show some of the more interesting and off-the-wall place names travelers may encounter. This travel entry continues in that tradition.

Along Indiana 52 we passed by towns such as Fowler, Lafayette, Stockwell, Clarks Hill, Colfax and Thorntown before merging with Interstate 65 at Lebanon. As soon as we could, we took County Road 267 past Fayette to Brownsburg.

After reaching Brownsburg, we rode I-70 east through Indiana. The last town of note in Indiana for us was Richmond. A short distance east was Ohio. 36 miles later we reached Dayton, where we called it a day and found lodging.
