I am getting very addicted to growing my resources on Moon. I pretty much don't sleep when playing the game and its all text base. Do I really want to play like this? I am not sure but for now sticking to it as its fun and addictive.
One of the challenges of building up a fleet in Moon is due to lack of resources. When I start I tend to focus on accumulating resources. A quick way to grow my resources beyond simply upgrading the buildings is to raid, aka attack, non active players in the game. I specifically focus on players that have an "i" at the end of their name that would indicate as inactive.
I focus on players who have zero to very little defense. Then I simply send out cargos to attack and win resources. I would try to find high rank inactive players first and it is an extra benefit that they are not among some sort of alliance. This is because under an alliance other members of the same alliance if playing can see their teammates being attack.
This will lead to future potential retaliation with the fact that active alliance members can see when opposition is attacking. I want to avoid confrontations as much as possible in the beginning of the game and build up my resources.
Then I look for players that are closest to my planet of where origin of attack is to be executed. The closer the opponent's planet is to mine the short the duration of the attack and extract resources to deliver back to my planet. This is ideal so I get to raid as many time as I can.
Winners of the attack take 50% of the losing opponent's resources on the planet. Sometimes I spy on the planet to spot high amount of resources before I do an attack. The great amount of resources the more I earn.
Once I build enough resources I would focus on growing my research. In there I would build up what can boost my production from energy to mining mineral bonuses. Of course this takes time as I need to build up other skills along the way in order to open up specific skills I like to boost. This all happens while I am still attacking and producing resources.
Along the way I have encounter attacks and do my best to mitigate losses. As I lack a fleet and defense because I put most if not all resources into building I tend to have to stay very active in moving my resources to avoid losing too much. It is not perfect but it is an active cat and mouse game. The time it takes my opponents to reach my planet with resources really depends on when I am active in the game to see it. Some times I see them and other times naturally I am away sleeping and get attacked.
Above snapshot are some of my worse loss to date and I can bet bigger ones will come. It is the cost of focusing on building resources despite not strong in my fleet and defense. I hope to soon switch that soon.
My goal for now is to continue adding in production but in the future start growing a fleet. Meanwhile avoid strong and fast attacks that come my way. It takes a lot of energy and effort to plan through the steps to mitigate losses while still advancing in the game. I look forward to building up my planets and in turn construct a fleet for universe domination!

It looks like a solid plan. Sure, you may lose a few, but the strategy works out to your advantage more than it hurts you.
