How the Rich Get Richer

in LeoFinance5 months ago (edited)

The rich are getting richer, while the poor are getting poorer, what a life but that is just the sad true reality happening in our society. And so many times, we have asked this question, why do the rich get richer and the poor remain poorer. This is a trend that has been accelerating in recent decades, and it is one of the most pressing challenges facing our world today. Of course I will not dispute the fact that there are some poor people who are breaking away from poverty and vice versa also in the case of those who are rich and due to mismanagement of wealth, they become poorer.

There are a number of factors that contribute to the growing gap between rich and poor in our society. One factor is the concentration of wealth in the hands of a small number of people. According to a report by Credit Suisse, the richest 1% of people in the world now own more than half of the world's wealth. Can you see how outrageous that stats is in our present society. If that continues, don't you actually think it is dangerous to the future of humanity.

Well not only that factor is in place, another factor is the global economy, which is increasingly rigged in favor of the wealthy. What do I actually mean by that? For example, the trade deals that have been negotiated in recent years have benefited corporations at the expense of workers. Take for example stuff like tax cuts for the wealthy have further exacerbated the problem of inequality. The growing gap between rich and poor is not just a moral issue as many of us think and like I once think before I broke out of that mindset. It is also an economic issue.

When the rich get richer, they tend to consume less and save more. This can lead to economic stagnation, as there is less money being spent to stimulate the economy. In addition, the growing gap between rich and poor can lead to social unrest. When people feel that they are not getting a fair share of the pie, they are more likely to become angry and frustrated. This can lead to protests, violence, and even political instability.

But How Do The Rich Get Richer?

Now let's answer the big question, why or should I say how do the rich get richer, Well of course there are a number of ways that the rich get richer which only if th poor can copy the style, it might actually work for them beyond which they can ever imagine of.

  • Investing in assets: The rich are more likely to invest their money in assets, such as stocks, bonds, and real estate. These assets can generate high returns over time, which can help the rich to grow their wealth even faster. Most times I have discovered that the poor only focus on getting liabilities,
  • Owning businesses: The rich are also more likely to own businesses. Businesses can be a great way to generate wealth, but they can also be risky. However, the rich are able to absorb more risk than the poor, which gives them an advantage.
  • Taking advantage of tax breaks: The rich are also able to take advantage of tax breaks that are not available to the poor. For example, the rich can invest in tax shelters and offshore accounts to reduce their tax liability.
  • Passing down wealth to their children: The rich are also more likely to pass down their wealth to their children. This gives their children a significant advantage in life, and it helps to perpetuate the cycle of inequality. This way, it helps to continue something which I call the wealth circle.

The growing gap between rich and poor has a number of negative consequences that it is bringing to our society. Some we notice and some that even though we are not noticing them, it will soon come to play in the future in our society which might be very dangerous. Briefly, let us take a look at some of them to actually understand what I am trying to say.

  • Reduced economic growth: As mentioned above, when the rich get richer, they tend to consume less and save more. This can lead to economic stagnation, as there is less money being spent to stimulate the economy.
  • Increased social unrest: The growing gap between rich and poor can also lead to social unrest. When people feel that they are not getting a fair share of the pie, they are more likely to become angry and frustrated. This can lead to protests, violence, and even political instability.
  • Reduced social mobility: The growing gap between rich and poor also makes it more difficult for people to move up the social ladder. This is because the rich have more access to resources and opportunities, which gives them a significant advantage.

What Can Be Done?

There are a number of things which I strongly believe that can be done to address the growing gap between rich and poor. Well that doesn't mean it will solve the issue completely but to an extent I strongly believe it will. Some of the steps the government can actually take which is very important.

  • Progressive taxation: The first one I will recommend is something called the progressive taxation. One way to reduce inequality is to implement a progressive tax system. This means that the rich would pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than the poor. This would generate revenue that could be used to fund programs to help the poor and middle class.
  • Investing in education and job training: Investing in education and job training is another way to reduce inequality. This would give people the skills they need to get good-paying jobs and support themselves and their families.
  • Strengthening labor unions and labour laws: Labor unions can help to ensure that workers are treated fairly and that they are paid a living wage. This would help to reduce inequality and improve the lives of working families.

In conclusion, the growing gap between rich and poor is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. There are a number of things that can be done to address this problem, such as progressive taxation, investing in education and job training, and strengthening labor unions. By taking these steps, we can create a more just and equitable society for all.
