"Hi, Do you know about HIVE?" I asked my friend.
He replied "Yes, I have heard about it"
I am surprised that he knew about it.
I asked, "So why did you not join and ever told me about it?"
Now he was a bit surprised and said, "WHAT! It's a software, some companies use to process big data or something like that"

Then, I told him about the Hive Blockchain and we both laughed on our own ignorance.

Next day I took another look at google search results on the keyword hive and it wasn't his fault for not knowing.

The Marketing Problem

When you search hive on google, the website www.hive.io comes at 6th place (at least for me here in India). And when you search for hive blockchain, even then we don't get the top result. We need to have a better SEO strategy and we must try to push hive.io to the top.
Now leofinance is coming up with its own app that will make us more easily accesible via smartphones, it will surely boost the no. of new users coming onto this platform.

Beginner Unfriendly

This is one of the biggest issues in hive. In order to achieve the best decentralized experience and for other security purpose we have created many difficult terms and vocabulary like Hive Power, Hive Backed Dollars, Hive , powering up and powering down, delegating, rep score, curation trails , differnet types of keys and many more terms which is kind of overwhelming for someone who came to doing their regular social media acitvities like posting, commenting and liking.

The learning curve is so steep, that many might eventually give up in their first week itself. Although, I think when you give enough time and effort in learning about hive and how it works, how payout works etc you kind of get the hang of it naturally.

Many communities are helping in this regard and also helping in delegation, but if someone don't know how to reach those people, they might quit in the first week.

These two are the main concerns regarding onboarding but not the only concerns, concern about privacy is also issue for many people. As the blockchain is immutable meaning no data can be erased from it. Many people don't feel comfortable sharing information and feel that they have no control on the content which is already on the blockchain.

I hope with increase in nft gaming and the increasing popularity of web3 and decentralized networks, many people will come join this amazing community.

All the views expressed are personal.

Do tell me what you think are the current issues when it comes to onboarding new people and also suggest some of the changes we can do to fix those issue. Lets have an open conversation in the comments below.

Nice one there @pravesh0 the challenges am facing is getting the active gateway for onboarding people because hive on board is not onboarding at the moment I guess.

The second challenge is delegation, I have about 5 to 6 people that wants to get onboarded but how do they start posting and all without any HP

Just take them to the discord server - The terminal (link in banner). They may help them in delegations.

Okay, thanks

Great post, @pravesh0!

My account is used for introducing the onboarding new comers. I will reblog your post.

A small suggestion for you: Try to justify left on the text so that its easier to read. :)

editing it right now, used leofinance.io for the first time to post, thanks for the suggestion

At times all the terminologies and technicalities may seem too much for a newbie, especially one without knowledge on crypto and blockchain related stuff. Which is why I very much appreciate what the terminal do. Without them, they'll be so many lost souls.

Yes, they are doing an excellent job helping newbies with their questions and RC problems.

Yay! 🤗
