WHY AM I HERE?

in LeoFinance3 years ago

Well, @markymark, that's quite the question today as I just told all my HIVE nearest and dearest that I was taking a 48 hour break from HIVE to go camping, but due to unforeseen circumstances and a slight illness I am in the back of our Landrover in the driveway writing this post. As much as I was looking forward to a mini digital detox, as usual, I'm still happy to be here.

In 2018 my husband started looking into trading crypto. He's the kinda guy that immerses himself in YouTube videos on various topics, learns all he needs, and moves on to the next topic. You know, ghost mines, astrophysics, stationary engines, the history of drum and bass, how to build a rocket stove, cycling across Afghanistan, and so on. So crypto was just another interest in a long line of interests, where I would just hear 'blah blah blah' whilst making dinner or scrolling through the bore of Facebook. I loosened the purse strings a little to let him buy a few hundred odd coins, because men should be given at least a little allowance to keep themselves happy.

Me, cycling and thinking of HIVE

One day he says to I, 'babe, there's a crypto social media si...' and before his sentence was complete I'd downloaded the keys for The Other Platform We Shall Not Name, and had made my first post. Whilst candles and day trades were interesting for others, I was fascinated by the fact you could blog and make money from it. Blogging was interesting to me as I love the written word.. it calms me as well as helps me express myself creatively. But any blog I tried to do online fizzled, as I wasn't a one topic girl, and that's kinda want blogging sites expected - that you an expert in a certain area. Besides EVERYONE was a blogger, and you would be lost in a sea of bloggers.

Which of course I was, on TOPTSNOBN (That Other Platform That Shall Not Be Named). That clearly didn't shut me up though, because the more I blogged, the more I had to say, and the more people I connected to to share with. By the time HIVE kicked off, I was truly ensconced, growing my HIVE nest egg so I had more voting power and building the Natural Medicine community as well.

By this time, the hubs had moved onto Landrovers and somehow disabled his Binance account and forgotten how to get back on, and I had started learning how to do a bit of trading myself, even buying some Bitcoin at around the 9 to 15k AUD mark, ETH and a few alts, let alone playing with tokens. I am definitely no expert - far from it - but I can get by, and learn anything really that I have enough time to put my attention on.

Why am I here today? Man. Where do I even start? I'm here because I am connected to people from all over the world - from Venuzuela to Mauritius to Lagos to Colorado. I'm here because people here are fascinating as well as kind. I'm here because I love to create.
I'm here because I believe crypto is the future. I'm here because it's kinda geeky and none of my friends in RL are here (how boring of them). I'm here because I could send my post rewards to someone that I have got to know in South America who needed to pay for a family members medication, and others I can support in small ways when I can. I'm here because the global village matters. I'm here because HIVE doesn't censor alternative viewpoints like Facebook does. I might not agree with them all but I believe people have a right to speak. I'm here because there's so many innovative, creative, interesting people here that for the most part are real and not really trying to be someone they aren't. I'm here because, aside from your usual trolls, the vast majority of people here are bloody nice and would do anything for you. I'm here because the Natural Medicine community means a lot to me, and I've been in a good position emotionally and financially to keep that community kicking, with the help of a really solid core team. In turn, Natural Medicine helps support people that need it. It feels bloody good to give back to a platform that's given me more than I could express really - a sense of self worth, of belonging and connection.

Me pretty much singing about HIVE

A week ago we finally got the hubs back into his Binance account, and it was pretty awesome to see his small investment into BTC turn into a good few grand, which I made him transfer to me, because now I also have control of the crypto purse strings like any good wife should.

He still gets surprised when I tell him how my account has grown from those first few posts that earnt mere cents.

@markymark asked Hivers three questions in this post you might like to answer.

I loved your story but even more the way you write! Thanks for sharing it!

This is a great initiative by markymark. I'm really enjoying getting to know how other people ended up here.

I also told the story of how I ended up on Hive if you are interested, although is not nearly well written as yours :)

Thanks for letting me know, I'll pop over and read it now!

Looks like enjoyed day and beautiful photography 💕

The bike ride was fun!

Your husband is a visionary man, you should thank him.
I feel the same as you, none of my friends are on this platform, it's their loss, crypto is the future and Hive is a great community.

I felt vindicated the other day when my son called to ask what crypto exchange I'm on because he wanted to sign up for one. Better late than never.

And haha, yes, I thank my hubs, even though I like to take the mick out of him too!

I love your story! One of the biggest pulls was connecting the dots all over the world. How interesting life is when living it through the eyes of another. I have learned so much through the Market that I do, peeking into life on the outskirts of places I never even heard of.

It is amazing and being able to send money to those in need? Heartwarming. Thank you for this wonderful post. I hope you feel better soon! xo

Thanks!! Oh yeah the market is awesome - one of my favourite tags, though I keep forgetting about it! I feel I've armchair travelled like a boss on HIVE!

Oh yeah feeling sorry for myself today - honestly, this morning I swore to stay offline and go have fun, and within an hour I was on the couch. Feelingmiserable, but thanks for cheering me up x

people from all over the world - from Venuzuela to Mauritius to Lagos to Colorado....

Never been in any of those named places.
Have you been in Pandora? (Where Toruk is living).
Or in Lithuania ?

ghost mines, astrophysics, stationary engines, the history of drum and bass, how to build a rocket stove, cycling across Afghanistan

Beautiful interesting and diverse topics! Amazing! Rocking it

Such a lovely story! You have a great husband, giving you full control of crypto, that is so nice!

I resonated the most with one phrase you just said
I'm here because it's kinda geeky

Hihihi me too😍

@creativemary, ta for stopping by.

Haha, well, he keeps forgetting his password and keys to like EVERYTHING so I insisted. Plus, he's busy with other things, like the Landrover restoration.

Vive la geek - I think I've been 'kinda' geeky most of my life, but am only just admitting it :P

Welcome to the club! Geeks are cool people

Hahah, thanks for stopping by @likedeeler! It did feel like a big philosophical question, yes, but I thought I'd keep it simple.

Your husband sounds like me! I love Youtube and I bounce from one hobby to the next lol. I really enjoyed your story or do I say blog now? Sometimes I feel too old. 🙂🙃

Oh no, you're not too old!! That's what someone said to me today - though I feel it today!! Words are just words - I like 'stories' as well, more than anything, truth be told!

Great read. I think I am quite like your husband in his youtube watching habits. But I'm still trying to get my wife Hiving. She has an account but has yet to find her voice. Interestingly, she suggested we each buy $100 of Bitcoin at the start of covid which I was very impressed with. Hopefully it will inspire her to get more involed

Oh that's awesome, so you made a little bit! I hope she finds her voice soon, tell her to pop over and say hi!!

I like your Hive thesis if we can call it that. You might've just inspired me to take part in this challenge btw. I, like you, am not on Hive for one reason, but so many that I think it's hard to count at this point.

I like that Hive is a place where my FB friends don't live (yet). This gives me a sense of freedom, especially when it comes to content subjects.

Thanks for sharing, I learned a little more about you.

It's a fun challenge! Yeah I hope that my family doesn't come to HIVE haha. Or read my back history when I die!!

Such a common thing with so many of us: our RL friends are not here (yet). Kinda like in the early 90s, when only the nerdy kids from the computer club had e-mail address. Ten years later came the "my mom is on fb" moment.

But just like with the horse that you can lead to the water, it must be their own choice to take the first step. Just in the last two weeks I managed to get two RL friends excited, and even onboarded them... Now waiting for their intro post. I've even offered 10 HIVE to the first one to post anything. Let's see if the excitement lasts.

That's so true. I remember Microsoft messaging... I couldn't get people near me on it but gee I has great conversations with people from all over the world I met on my travels. Now I can't leave Facebook as it's only way to stay in touch with family yet all my cool international friends are on HIVE or WhatsApp!!!

Beautiful and quite soothing @riverflows. I'm working on having a beautiful hive story like this too. At the same time I'm speechlessly grateful at the small progress I've made so far.

I wish for you to get well quick (as you said you had an illness). Happy detox. All the best!

Thankyou! Sounds like you are hooked! I actually think it's a bit easier to get noticed these days than on Steem, because there's a lot of good curators out there trying to help out.

Yeah, that's true. It's easier now than it was on steemit. Not quite there yet, but better than before.

You crack me up, the way you have written your answer 😹. Except for the husband part it pretty much reflects my being here, blogging. Though I haven't connected with too many people (yet) and I haven't bought any BTC yet, only ETH. Also I surprisingly found playing Splinterlands to be a lot of fun!

Oh I was going to try Splinterlands but have no time. Same with Dcity. But still, there's SO many fun things for all kinds of people to do here, it's one of the things I love about it! I have a small amount of ETH too

... because men should be given at least a little allowance to keep themselves happy

Wrong! XD

because now I also have control of the crypto purse strings like any good wife should

Now that's more like it!

When I feel lost in a sea of content, you are my beacon of light, reminding me of what truly matters. It seems like your getaway trips tend to be put on pause. I can't wait to hear all about your overdue mega adventures when the time is right!

Many blessings from the moon, the lake and the bird songs (not those annoying birds you told me about).

Haha you picked up my wife thing there, I thought I was funny.. 😂😂😂 Thanks so much for your sweet words as always.

We have a lovely bird around here at the moment... A grey shrike thrush. Makes the prettiest sound!

I really enjoy your content. I'm glad you decided to do hive and so we can see some quality posts. Cheers

Aw, thanks so much!

What a great place to ride and a nice story! Among the other good things you wrote, my favorite line was "like any good wife should" 😜
I'm new around here, found out about Hive from husband too. But he's also new and more to cryptoartist in NFT Showroom. Nice to know you!

Ah, I wish my hubs would actually go on HIVE! Well, he did, and promptly lost the keys - and he can't be bothered!

We are here for a lot of the same reasons you mentioned. Many people on Hive just seem to get it and lack of censorship is nice too.

Thanks for curating us to OCD btw!

I couldn't nominate it because it wasn't in a community. 😭 River saved the day, though. 😁

No worries! It was actually @minismallholding that found that post - lucky for you that us OCD curators work together to get your great stuff seen.

Thank you for being you and doing what you do for all of us. I feel so grateful 🙏xx

haha love it, love how you tell your journey. So so happy you are on here and for all the hard work that you put into this platform. You are a superstar!!!!! Love you beautiful one xxxxx

Awe, thanks so much!
