Digital Marketing In Nigeria

in LeoFinance21 days ago (edited)

When I read @leo.tasks #inleo #aprilinleo monthly prompts for today at first I was a bit stumped.
This is because digital Marketing isn't really my strong suit nor is it of any interest to me as a person. Yet I was a little bit amused because of how deeply it has taken root in the hearts of the youths of my country.

Nigeria just recently began warming up to the many advantages of the Internet and the crypto world. Like every child which gets a new toy, Nigeria's public had discovered the wonders of the internet and began experimenting.
The youth's in my generation, had become more resourceful while doing it and recently discovered the finesse and allure of digital marketing, with the most popular being Affiliate Marketing.

Now for those who may not know, Digital Marketing in lame man terms is simply the act of marketing a good, produce or service on the Internet.
It takes plenty forms and has numerous branches. There are the SEM's, pay-per-clicks, even the crude and saturated Facebook marketplace were @trumpman got his new silver Ottoman coin from is a form of digital marketing.

Affiliate Marketing, would fall under a sort of mixed canopy of digital marketing and digital advertising.
It's the advertisement of goods and services for the seller to the buyer online, the seller likes the goods and buys the goods, then the affiliate gets his/her cut.
Saves stress of the seller from advertising, the affiliate marketer advertised but doesn't have to deal with storing and/or restocking of the goods.
Its a win/win situation between the seller and the affiliate.
I see it as a lot of stress though, but other Nigerians -a good number of them- love it!.

Just see the amount of Ads!!

I see this marketing scheme to have its disadvantages though with the major being on the basis of trust.
I'll be honest, we Nigerians aren't one of the most trustworthy people business-wise and the person a Nigerian has most distrust for during financial dealings is another Nigerian.
These feelings of distrust aren't unfounded though, as there have been many a story of scams and frauds in the business.
An affiliate marketer advertising a good that wasn't real, be got paid and vanished or another who advertised a product, got paid and delivered a different or defective product, and then vanished 😂.

Of course there are so many other forms of scams in this business, but this are the major two categories.

Well there is always the possibility of the buyer being the scammer with the use of fake transfers and transactions of air money (money that'll enter your account just long enough for you to confirm the payment, and then vanish from the account.)

There are still good transactions conducted using affiliate marketing, a considerable lot of good that outweighs the unsavory stories, yet still I'm hesitant on trying it out.
Wouldn't want to be part of the bad stories😭😭
I'm more content with buying goods I can see for myself B-)

Affiliate Marketing has become something that isn't going anywhere in this country, and well, despite my misgivings about It, I feel it is still a good thing as it gives so many Nigerians a means of livelihood. Yet the problem with the rising amount of people joining it is clear.

If everyone becomes an affiliate marketer. Who'll be the buyer?
