EXODE: The First Game Exclusively On Hive

We are seeing the development of the first game build exclusively on Hive. Some of you might have seen the posts over the past week providing teasers for the game. Over that time, I spent some time researching it to see what some of the advantages are.

The game is called EXODE and it is being put together by @elindos. It is a space colony game that seeks to establish some basic tenets for the players. The hope is that each individual will have a unique experience while providing the opportunity to avoid what plagued many other blockchain based games.

To cover some of the basics, the game is a traditional space colony game in that one has a ship, crew, and crates that are used to grow one's asset base. There is also a planet that is provided to start one's colony on.

One of the beneficial features of blockchain based games is the fact that players own assets that can be traded on a market. While some secondary markets formed around the more popular games, with blockchain, a brand new game such as EXODE can establish a market for the gaming assets instantly.

My read on this is that it seeks to go beyond the typical trading card game. The goal is to establish a unique experience that is immersive in nature. One is actually engaging in strategy to foster growth of the colony. All the while, each person truly involved in the game has the opportunity to benefit.

The team even put together a manifesto describing the values and intentions of the game.

One of the biggest problems with gaming systems, especially on blockchain, is to avoid the "Ponzi-scenario". Some of the game we saw come out were hits early on because they provided great benefit to the users who spent money. However, individuals who arrived later who followed a similar path were obliterated in the games because all the power was in the hands of the early adopters.

EXODE seeks to alleviate this. Each person starts at the same place, with his or her own planet.

This from their FAQ Page:

In EXODE, a unique planet is already part of your starting experience.

You don't have to search a long time for a planet; you already have one very specific to enjoy or resell. Your entire crew is also unique, just like your passengers and, to some extent, your crates. Of course, you may also build a starship and explore the galaxy; thus expanding your assets.

This is one piece of the puzzle along with continued development. Fortunately, there are plans that extend beyond the MVP scenario that is mentioned thus far. There is an entire Wiki that was written up detailing some of the ideas that are going to be implemented. The FAQ page also has links to many other ideas that are being worked on.

There is also a write up about the in-game features:

We also see an intro video which shows the quality of what is being produced. Original music is also going to be a part of the game.

Finally, there is a pre-sale in 5 days (March 29th). According to the announcement, the packs will be $5 each with booster packs going for $2. The pre-sale will accept BOTH HIVE and STEEM as payment. All in game assets are on Hive and will be located there.

Here are the full details.

Gaming holds one of the biggest opportunities in blockchain. The early entrants are providing valuable feed back for newer developers to utilize. To me, it appears that the team behind EXODE learned from some of the games of the past and are taking steps to ensure all players can excel.

I hope everyone takes a look at this one.

I would prefer to invest in a game developer and get a cut of the revenue tho. that would be super awesome :D

Yeah @ash. If you come across that, let me know...I will follow your lead on that one.😁

but a game developer can pack and go disappear.

Gonna give it a try, hopefully it’s like EVE online!

@taskmaster4450le very nice post I super like it. If you want I can ask the founder for that. And it's a very nice game everyone should try it.

Interesting, thanks for letting us know.

Before I jump into reading the docs and wiki, how is this game different from Next Colony? Thanks!

I'm exited about this
