X launches AI-curated audiences for advertisers

Today, May 10, the business account for social media platform X announced a new feature identified as “AI Audience” for advertisers. The feature powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is to define relevant user pools for advertisers. Specifically, the feature is designed to allow advertisers to briefly describe their target audience for a given ad, then allow X’s AI systems to generate a pool of “the most relevant X users” to that target.

The release date for this feature is not yet known, with X only stating that it's "coming soon".

AI Audience will make it easier and faster to reach a target audience for X ads in a matter of seconds. The post was reposted by X owner Elon Musk, though without any additional comment on the development. The AI matching system will provide an ad audience based on the description given, including an overview of top users, their interests, locations, etc.

In the announcement post, a typical scenario for the utilization of AI Audience was presented. Consider an X user inputting the target audience as “Technology Leaders” with the description “users who are leaders in technology.” AI Audience will create an AI-generated list with hundreds of users in the target audience, along with statistics for the demographic, all within seconds.

In response to the announcement post, one user commented that this would be a “gamer changer” for the world of advertising and “value for your money” on the platform. However, he questioned the accuracy of the AI at targeting audiences. Aoother users expressed concerns about the AI reinforcing and perpetuating biases and stereotypes. This was reflected in a comment as a screenshot below.

On its part, X is confident that its targeting systems will deliver, noting that its improved AI audience matching and placement tools are driving a 10% increase in click-through rates and a 16% increase in conversions.

On the whole, the efficiency of AI Audience at correctly identifying target audiences is believed to put X ahead of other advertising platforms. This could be a significant development for advertisers, provided it works effectively.

The emergence of AI Audience is similar to what Google announced in its NewFronts presentation, using generative AI to extrapolate the perfect audience for each campaign.

Artificial intelligence is here to improve work while creating chances for improved earnings.
