A full weekend with the family and a trip to Porto (Portugal) on Sunday

Family weekends are perfect and if you culminate with a business trip to a beautiful city the loneliness of the trip becomes less sad.

Hello to all the great people here at the Hive! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today I want to share with you a weekend that I was able to enjoy a week ago in which on Saturday I enjoyed with the family making an excursion to a village near my mother's house where there is a beautiful museum of cutlery and where we then enjoyed the good Asturian cuisine and as for Sunday I will share with you my arrival in Porto (Portugal) where I made a short walk through its historic center until a rainstorm surprised me and I had no choice but to return to the hotel by cab and totally soaked.

The hivers who read my different posts will have noticed that due to my work as a trainer in scientific instrumentation for chemical analysis laboratories, I am usually traveling alone from one side of Spain to the other for an average of three weeks a month. Thank God, my job always allows me to travel very comfortably by car or by plane when the trips are longer and, therefore, I can always return home on weekends and I usually travel to my mother's house.

The weekend of November 5, unusually for the time of year in Asturias, dawned a spectacular day and I decided to go to the town of Navia which is located 8 kilometers from my mother's house to take a walk around its marina and through a promenade go to see the beach that day had a good swell as you can see in the photos I share below. Obviously, I always go with my smartphone to take these walks because there is always some moment that I like to capture to share on my blog or to capture some photo to submit them in the various photo contests that are in Hive and that I enjoy so much.

Once I arrived at the beach and after spending a few minutes contemplating the sea, I returned to where I had parked the car, but not before photographing a small park where there were some curious shadows that obviously I have already published in the #shadowhunters community in the weekly contest.

It was just at that moment, when I was taking the above photos, when I received a WhatsApp from my mother telling me if I could return home because my aunt and uncle and my cousin from Madrid had come to visit and they would like to make a small trip to the village of Taramundi where there is a museum of cutlery and take advantage of the day to eat there.

Well, said and done, I went by car, I drove the 8 kilometers from Navia to my mother's house and after having a coffee with my family I made a call to the museum of the cutlery to get a ticket to the museum for 5 adults and a girl and they gave us an appointment for 13:30h, since at other times the quotas for visits were already reserved.

The visit to the museum of the cutlery of Taramundi is divided into four different parts.

The first part consists of taking a fun photograph, posing individually or in groups next to a giant model of a knife. As you can see, if it were a real knife, to stand under it would be for real braves.

Once these photographs have been taken, the second part of the visit to the museum consists of visiting the actual workshop that the owners of the museum have for the manufacture of knives. In this workshop one can see the different machines used for the manufacture of handles, blades, ornaments, etc.. that can have a current knife or knife.

After this visit, in the knife manufacturing area, the next part of the museum is to see the history and evolution that has taken place in Taramundi in the manufacture of knives and knives that goes back more than a century. There are exposed knives and other cutting tools made by the different knife-making families of this town in the Asturian mountains.

Finally, the visit to this museum culminates with a demonstration of how a knife is made in the traditional way in a small forge.

After this visit, it was already 15:00 h and it was time to look for a restaurant to eat. In Taramundi there are 3 restaurants, but this time there were many visitors and, therefore, we did not have a place to eat. It was then, when we decided to return to near my mother's house and eat in a restaurant where the owners are friends of the family after confirming by phone that they could reserve us a table and they would have prepared us some delicious Asturian cachopos and a delicious sausage to satisfy our hunger that at that time was already unbearable.

After lunch, we continued to share the day as a family without doing any special events, except playing the famous card game called the 1 that my little cousin and all family loves.

Because I had to be last week giving a training course in Porto (Portugal) on Sunday morning I said goodbye to my relatives in Madrid and after lunch with my mother I got into my company car and made the trip to Porto. The trip took me about 5 hours so I arrived at the hotel around 18:30 hours.

Due to the number of hours I was driving my body asked me to walk for a while so I put on comfortable clothes and shoes and walked about 2 kilometers to the historic center of Porto where is the San Bento Station famous because inside there are some spectacular murals that tell the history of the kingdom of Portugal made with hand painted tiles that are an absence of artwork.

After spending about 15 or 20 minutes contemplating and photographing these murals created with tiles, I left the station bound for the cathedral of Porto, which is about 5 minutes walk. Where you can also see in one of its side facades use the same type of art on tiles to capture in this case biblical events related to the history of Portugal and the city.

Just at that moment, and without warning, it began to rain heavily, but nevertheless, I decided to complete my photo album of the cathedral environment photographing the equestrian statue of Vímara Peres and also the main facade of the cathedral and the pillory that is close to the main facade but already with a good downpour of rain and without an umbrella.

It was then, when I decided to run back to the train station of San Bento and in a matter of 2 minutes it stopped raining and I decided to return to the hotel passing previously by a beautiful church which is the church of San Ildefonso.

After this last stop, I took a cab and completely soaked I arrived at the hotel and after a hot shower I went down to the restaurant and enjoyed a typical dish of Portuguese cuisine which is cod.

I hope you enjoyed my post although I don't think as much as I did with this good weekend with the family and with a final visit to the city of Porto, even though it was rained out.

Good week to all.

Many years ago I was in Taramundi-Galicia, just like the sixth and seventh photo where your family appears. Blessings, travelling is beautiful. Take care of the Covid... Best regards.

Taramundi belongs to Asturias for a few kilometres but it is not galicia.

The family home is 20km from Taramundi.

If you come back to the area let me know

Hehehehe
