You've got to laugh!

.I live in a former quarrying area and these slates are a fine example of the local sense of humour

I am a lady of impeccable manners. It's the way I was brought up. My father was a dreadfully rude individual and thus I spent my formative years cultivating fine manners and proper etiquette. But more important to me than my manners or my undeniable humility, is my exceptional sense of humour. I’ve always found both personally and in business that people respond more positively to you if, in your initial interaction, you can raise a smile. And if you can laugh at yourself, well, life is a hell of a lot easier.

It seems that when I’m about, people are given to laughing. Now whether this is with me or at me I don’t know, nor do I care. As long as they’re laughing I chalk another one up to my skilled repartee. Just the other day one of my Hive fans commented on my blog about my admirable sense of humour. I will name no names but I will say that she is a lady of good taste and considerable discernment.

My brother describes my wit as of the sledgehammer variety and I suppose he’s right. I love to get a rise out of people.

Only this afternoon while walking my dogs I met a man, around my age, I’d not seen before.
"Great drying out today" he called as I passed by..... most greetings in Ireland have something to do with the weather.
"Did your wife tell you that" I replied. ....because of course men don’t do laundry or know anything about drying conditions
"I haven’t got one", he said, "she left me a long time ago and I’m on my own".
"Oh really," said I, deadpan and moving closer to him, "I’m single myself and looking for a fit man to set my cap at."
A look of utter panic flashed across his face, just for a moment, before he laughed heartily, realising I was pulling his leg.

Of course, even a well-developed sense of humour such as my own does not work to one's advantage in all circumstances. Once upon a long time ago, when asked by a policeman if I was aware I was cycling up a one-way street, and smartly replied "I’m only going one way," I ended up with a not-so-fine fine.

Posted in response to @galenkp's weekend experience challenge asking What's most important to you (about your own personality): Having a good sense of humour or having good manners?

The images are my own

Sort:

@galenkp asked you the right question.😅

My brother describes my wit as of the sledgehammer variety

That may be true, but I cannot image ever that there would be a trace of cruelty in your wit. You may deliver a wallop, but never pain.

Another great blog, with your inimitable style.

Thank you kindly for always seeing the humour in my scribblings. I award you the dubious accolade of my No.1 fan:)

I'm honored 😄🌷

A look of utter panic flashed across his face, just for a moment, before he laughed heartily, realising I was pulling his leg.

How rude! Ah...a good man is hard to find. :D I agree. While obviously you don't need to choose and manners are supremely important, I couldn't live without humor. I've often said that's my only chance of actually getting them sculpted abs - laughing too much. Either that, or I'll keel over out of breath. Works for me.

You've got the right attitude! Humour is a great shield.

You speak so highly of yourself...

Hahaha, It's tongue-in-cheek, meant as a joke, sarcasm. 🙃
My apologies if that's not blatantly obvious. Perhaps I need to hone my art!

😂😂😂
You are good at what you do bro 😄

I am gratified that you recognise my brilliance:)

She is single looking for a fit man. I prayed her wish is granted

Hehe😂
I love the way you pulled your brother’s leg
Also, I love people who have great sense of humor
That’s just like me too
