The whole concept of what we as humans deem important has changed and expanded over the years as our civilization advanced. Although certain things have changed, there are other things which also remain the same.

If you ask most people during the medieval times what their view for the future was, you'll most likely here the men mention things like glory in battle, prestige in their communities, fame and so on.
Although today these concepts have changed a bit to accommodate the needs of the present time, at the base level it's still mostly the same.

As a modern day man if I was asked what my concerns for the future were, i would mention things like my financial status, fame, family and so on.
For me, all of these things are very important but there's nothing that intrigues me more than the concept of family. If we go deeper then it'll be fatherhood.

Family

Although I'm not yet married and I don't have any kids yet but one of the things that concern me the most is how well i would do being a father.
Unlike other aspects of our lives where we can always build a plan around and if it fails we make another one, parenting doesn't really come with a manual and I've seen people make mistakes that they can't seem to find solutions to.

Even some of the other things I mentioned like your financial status also play a role in the children's upbringing. Does having too much money and providing your children with everything they could ever need make them more appreciative or does it give them a wrong sense of ownership.
Does having to struggle to provide for them make them see the good of hardwork or make them resent your struggling.

Family

Everywhere I look it seems to me that everyone's just doing their best and hoping it turns out well. I absolutely love children and sometimes wish there was a manual somewhere that we can follow and be sure of getting our parenting right.

Although there's no sure way to get it right, but growing up in my own family and experiencing what it's like in other families has given me a lifetime of memories to help me.
If you look at it from another angle, it wouldn't be interesting or worth it if you didn't make some mistakes along the line. So as much as it's one of the things that scares me, it's also one of the things i look forward to the most.
