Stealing from the chest - WE80

in Weekend Experiences2 years ago (edited)

Hello, fellow Hivers and members of this amazing community! I hope we are all doing great this time of the weekend.

I have been away for so long and I've missed you all :) My mom-in-law passed away 10 days ago due to cardiac arrest and we have had tough days tending to her wake until she was laid to her final resting place 2 days ago. Thanks to Heaven's graces, we are doing well and are now trying to recuperate from the loss, the exhaustion - both emotionally and physically.

And I am so happy to be back here again and hopefully, be able to catch up very soon. What more could be so fitting than to participate in this weekend's topic prompts! Thanks, @galenkp for always coming up with interesting and fun topics to nibble upon :)

The topics are of great interest and I kind of wished we can write about them all but because we cannot, I have chosen one that came right through my mind while reading and because today is Sunday in our side of the world, the memory came about too quickly :)

Tell us, if you dare, a naughty or mischievous moment from your childhood - Explain what you did, what the event was, how it worked out, what trouble you got into and all the juicy details - Don't say anything that may get you in trouble with the police. 😁

If there's one naughtiness of my childhood that I can still vividly remember was the time when I would sneak into my parent's bedroom over 28 years ago (I was 13 then and in my second year in high school) and take money bills from their beautiful chest which they kept unlocked probably because they trusted us so much, lol!

During those years they had crisps bills bundled and piled one atop another inside their vault, and when Sunday is nearing, my naughty self would make me tiptoe inside their bedroom whilst mom was taking her time getting some sunshine outside the house. She was recovering from her illness after making several hospitals her home for over a year at that time due to heart problems and they were often away from home and my siblings and I were left home with our grandmom.

Instead of asking for money from my Dad, I would secretly go to their room and take a hundred or two, fold them into very small pieces, and then hide them at my grandmother's ceiling where I took them again when Sunday comes. My cousin and I would then attend mass and spend them all at once. I did it several times and I think my conscience worked afterward because I stopped doing it after taking probably over 10 times already :)

Little did I know that my Dad actually knew what I was doing then but he didn't say a word and didn't even lock the vault. I wondered why because when he caught my sister taking money from his pocket without asking permission, he scolded her badly and my sister cried. But he never reprimanded me which still makes me wonder up to this very day. I only learned that he knew about it many years after when during a family Christmas celebration, the past events and memories reminisced and we shared our naughtiness and I admitted in front of all of them that I had been taking crisp bills from their vault. We just laughed about our mischievousness because my sisters also did some kind of 'stealing' back then, lol!

So yes, that was just one of the naughty things I have done in my childhood years that makes me laugh each time I remember it. I can say I was a certified chest thief for some time ago, haha. I suppose that won't be enough to give me trouble from the police, lol! And by the way, the chest still exists today and my parents still use it which makes it even more memorable :)

Thank you for reading me and I wish you all a beautiful and fun weekend!

Owning up to misdeeds much later in life is such fun with siblings around they do know how to tag you forever with some name or label.

Let one put up their hand anywhere and say they never did some mischief, I cannot think of any....

Nice to eventually be able to come clean and have a good laugh now @ifarmgirl, now what to do when your children try these antics?

Haha that is so true, we get some good laughs remembering how we did them and yes, none of us said he had not done any petty wrongdoings in the past. In fact, we are quite proud to admit them around family members, lol.

Your question now makes me wonder how I would react if I'll have kids and they would do the same :) I'll probably do the same thing as my father did ☺

I would need many posts to write the many tricks we did when young, yes we still tease each other to this day about those antics performed.

It is true what they say, that time comes and we look back and remember the fun of the past days and we derive laughters from them :)

A certified chest thief 😂 oh sis, I can't believe you were so naughty and thieving. And your father has never told you why he didn't say anything, hehe. I used to steal the change my dad left on his nightstand, but he knew that hehe.

Hugs to you and the Farm Boy, I hope you are well and recovering from the stress of the last few days.

Hahaha, yes sis! I did those things, lol! I was just glad I didn't turn into a full-time thief, haha. I guess most of us had some 'stealing' experiences in our younger years hehe.

We are doing better sis, thank you :) It may take us some days to recover from the stress and lack of sleep :) Will be going back tomorrow for cleaning and hopefully, we can have full rest in the next few days :)

You are right, sis at some point in our childhood or youth, most of us have been petty thieves, hehe.

Take care on the trip amiga.

Haha yes. Good to remember them today :) Thanks amiga :)

hahaha now i'm thinking of what I did back then and will join this challenge too haha. thanksfor sharing

Haha, I bet you did something funny too :) The contest has ended sis, the next will be on the weekend :)

Haha, I used to do this too with my dad who also had a chest without a lock. Parenting lesson number 1 we learned: when we have children, put a lock on that chest!

Hahaha, kinda feels good that I wasn't the only one who did it, lol!

Oh my gosh! What a story! What did you end up using the money for? What did your dad say at Christmas time? We have all have a little mischief inside of us. I love that they had a chest. Also, condolences to you from the recent death in your family. We lost someone in July, and this is the first Christmas without him. It is tough, but we have some good memories to carry us on.

Haha yeah, thinking about it now makes me wonder why I did those things whilst my mom was still on recovery. I used up the money for snacks which I and my cousin and our churchmates snacked on after mass lol! Dad just laughed about it when I mentioned my misdeeds. Yes, their chest even had cushions inside :)

Thank you for your condolences. It was so sudden that we were shocked but maybe, it was her time to leave us... life is really unpredictable and it is really tough, but life goes on...

Makes you wonder what we were thinking as kids. My daughter doesn't think I understand what she goes through as a teen sometimes-I am still trying to convince her.

Haha, yes. I sometimes shake my head when remembering some of the things done many years back. I think your daughter will realize one day too :)

Siento mucho tu perdida, este año perdí a mi abuela de 100 años, asi que puedo entender tu dolor. Que buenos y divertidos recuerdos Tenes de tu niñez

Thank you @nitsuga12. It's tough indeed but life must go on. I am sorry too for losing your grandmom. Reaching 100 years old is really amazing. It is very rare here in my country to reach that milestone. The lifespan of most people here is very short.

Thanks once again and I wish you a very Happy Christmas with your loved ones.

Yay! 🤗
