One of galenkp's posting prompts caught my eye on the weekend experience community, and I felt compelled to respond.

The three aspects of my life I spend the majority of my money on are food, data, and snacks. Food and snacks are important for my health and nourishment, while data allows me to stay connected to the world.

All three aspects are important for my day-to-day life, so I prioritize them as a part of my budget.

I have never been the type who spends on clothes, bags, shoes, hair, or make-up. Rather, I focus on the basics such as food, rent, utilities, and transportation, ensuring that I can maintain a comfortable lifestyle.

Since I work from home, I don't always spend money on transportation except on Saturdays and Sundays when I go to church.

I would have included petrol on the list of things I spend money on, but I eliminated it a few months ago so I could save more.

Honestly, there was once a time the power supply in my area became so terrible. To complete my job for the day, I always had to go buy a liter of fuel or two.

It got frustrating that I decided to calculate how much I had been spending on fuel. When I looked at the calculations, I saw that I was spending over half of what I was earning every month on fuel.

I was and I'm not still not earning much but I try to manage what I have. I thought about it and saw that my savings plans will be seriously affected if I continued buying fuel. So, I came up with a plan.

I have a family member who lives around my area. The good thing was that when there was no power supply in my house, there was always a possibility that there would be a power supply at their house.

I eliminated buying fuel every day and always had to put a call through to that family member every morning to ask if there is a power supply so I would go there and complete my work.

However, looking at these three items, such as food, data, and snacks, if I could eliminate or cut back on them to save some money, here is what I would do.

I would start by looking at my food budget and see if there are any ways I can lower my spending. For example, I could buy generic brands instead of name brands and buy in bulk to save money.

I could also cut back on my data usage by turning off my data when I don't need it and using Wi-Fi whenever possible.

When this year started, I told myself I was going to stop watching unnecessary statuses on Whatsapp, videos on the facebook, and YouTube so my data won't always get exhausted within a short time.

I haven't been able to stick to that discipline because most times when I go on Youtube, it is to learn certain things that I am interested in.

On Whatsapp, when I feel bored, I watch my contact's entertaining status to keep myself busy and distracted from depressing thoughts.

Finally, I could cut back on snacks by substituting healthier options, such as fruits and vegetables, instead of processed snacks. I could buy varieties of fruits and store them in a refrigerator.

I haven't been able to do this because I don't have a fridge in my house yet. Most times, when I don't have food in the house, those snacks keep my mouth busy and make me less hungry.

As I mentioned earlier, I spend money on food, snacks, and data personally. I can only cut down on them and not eliminate them because of the reason I already mentioned above.
