Not quite a quintessential English seaside time with modern art

British summers are short lived and they normally come and go as quick as crypto bulls and bears. If you don't sieze the opportunity at the right time you never know when the next wave will arrive. With this on mind, I made the most of the gorgeous weather today and went out for a walk. The rewards was certainly very satisfying.

We are not the most quintessential English seaside town, but I can portray it to be a lot more prettier than it really is. I think I've done a pretty decent job and hopefully some of you may think how lucky I am to live in such a pleasant town. Let's keep this illusion, it is summer after all, why spoil the day for people.

Our town has been making a lot of effort to attract tourist in recent years, and one event is a spin off from the famous Upfest from the neighbouring city. Upfest is Europe's largest outdoor street art festival, and this year, this weekend actually, some artists will be painting 18 murals across our town. I came across the first mural when my path was blocked by a big scaffolding.

One of the artist, called mishfit was painting her mural on the wall. I had a chat with her, and she said she'd been working on this since Friday afternoon so it's taken her two full days to complete it. This path is quite narrow and the marine is right next to it. I imagine it would be quite tricky to get the mural at the correct angle for viewers as there is limited space to move around to see it. I think she did a sterling job with the object looking down. Plus the colours she used were so vibrant and stood out perfectly from the blue.

More artists were working a little further in the centre of town. It was very interesting to see their creations develop. Not sure where the work will be kept afterwards, hopefully somewhere where people can continue to see them.

Street art isn't the only arty thing around town this weekend. Here's an exhibition in the town's shopping center. Like many high streets and shopping centers in UK, ours is on the verge of becoming desolate as more shops are closing down. They local council has stepped in to turn a lot of the empty shops into social spaces like community workshops, collaboration spaces and local exhibitions.

This exhibition is called Scaffolding and is an "immersive, interactive and participatory art". I particularly liked one part called Living Sculpture, which are these quirky knitted sculptures by a local artist called Lou Baker. Unlike a lot of the other exhibits we often see, visitors are welcome to wear these garment and play around with them, hence the name Living Sculpture You can also make a video of yourself. The camera does a 10 second clip that plays back on the big screen. It was fun to try on the sculptures, and just be silly and immerse yourself within and watch yourself afterwards. We need to loosen up in life. We don't do it often enough, and I think weekends are the perfect time to do it

It's nice to read about someone making the most of the short British summer and taking pleasure in its simple joys. Even though the town may not be the typical English beach town, the way you describe it makes it sound like a nice place to live. Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed reading it

How beautiful how nice that you took advantage of the nice weather to enjoy your city and see some of the artwork and exhibits that are presented. It sounds like there is a lot of effort in your city to attract tourists and get vacant spaces used creatively. It is important to appreciate the little things in life and enjoy moments of fun and relaxation. Taking the time to do these activities can also be beneficial to your mental and emotional health. I hope you continue to have more days to explore, relax, and enjoy a great day.

Wow! It was a great project of painting. They really work hard for it.

I am thinking it would be nice to try wearing that cloth in the last picture, a mascot or mascara?

In the last image, that was me trying on the red sculpture 😁

Oh you really tried it. That's good.

I so loge thr knitting part. That's ana awesome activity! Glad yiu were able to come and share it to us.

I don't. See much artist doing work in my place,

Thanks for dropping by!

That's would be really cool to see the artists painting their murals. That's a pretty neat event.

The immersive art is also cool. It's like dress up!

The artists are actually quite a chatting lot, and were very happy to talk to people about their creations, especially Lou, we did the Living Sculpture, she was chatting with hubby whilst I was immersing myself in her creation

That's a cool event. I love those murals. The colors goes well with the weather making the atmosphere more light, fun and lively.

Yes, you're absolutely right, the great weather makes everything so much nicer!

It is wonderful to enjoy the summer, I like it more than the winter, how nice that you went for a walk, I always like the ones you show us.

A new move, you have the soul of a gypsy, changes are positive, let the new surprises of life come.

How much color in your photos, how beautiful, you have to have fun, life is short, on Tuesday I turn 44 and I feel that I have not lived anything and I'm already entering the countdown.

Apologies for the delay in replying to messages, and now by the time I've got round to it, it's your birthday!! Hopefully I will be the first one to wish you a happy birthday @soyunasantcruz!!

Ohh what a surprise, no not yet, it's only a few hours away, I turn 06-06 for the effects of hive in the utc time is already 06 June, hahahahahah so officially you are the first.

Thank you very much friend. What a nice gesture on your part. @livinguktaiwan 😘

What a wonderful weekend walk you had. I often wanted to see street artwork in person because I really admire those artists and want to meet them in person. Amazing artwork they do. I like the concept of Living sculpture, anyone can have a good time there playing with various types of scarfs/shawls...

I always like it when exhibitions are interactive, it makes it so much more interesting. And the artists are very friendly and love chatting to people about their work

You did a good job to show the beauty of your town @livinguktaiwan
The idea to have that project is great, and the artists are doing a wonderful job too. I'm sure the murals will help to attract more tourists to the town.

Hopefully it will, we're doing all sorts to attract tourists as we have no natural beauty, even our beach is muddy, so it's not exactly the most pleasant seaside town!!

I think community is very important to develop tourism for an area. With the solidarity of the community, I believe we can turn a land of nothing into a tourist attraction. And I can see your community is doing a good job over there.

Oh, so you have already 1 day of English summer under your belt? Nice! 😃 Tbh, we are having some crazy rains in our area which is very weird to experience... So, maybe you are in the lead... for now... 😂

Love street art in general, and having a street art festival in town is great! Nice shots!
Are you the one under that red "something"? 😃

We've actually had a good run of sunny days these few weeks, now they're saying it hasn't rained for 30+ days... Us Brits always find something to moan about the weather 😬

And yes, that's me fully immersed in the art!!

Thats a great idea to brighten up a town - I love seeing street art like that. And making it into an event is pretty smart !

It's great the festival from Bristol decided to over spill to us. Still we have some locals complaining that the murals trash the town. You can never please everyone!

You can see that it was a walk full of art and a lot of creativity, thanks for sharing it

It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, so glad I went out

Good effort by the locals to being in much needed tourism, hope it was well supported.

It certainly brings a bit of life to the town, it was so dead a few years back during covid as we rely on the little tourism we have

It must be a ghost town out of season

Sounds like a wonderful weekend! Is it you in the last photo?

Yes, that's me being crazy on a Sunday afternoon 😁

That picture is the best 👍👍👍😄

I love that your town is making an effort to attract tourists by hosting events like Upfest and the Scaffolding exhibition. It's great to see that the local council is also working to revitalize the town's shopping center by turning empty shops into social spaces.

Wow! The murals are indeed so cool. I hope I could find artists here as excellent as they were for I found it so realistic. I used to have a mural in my classroom but compared to their output, it is so impressive. And I so love the pink flowers, dear LivingUK. What a great exhibition in there.
