It was hot and I was thirsty. I would like to write about a chimpanzee's sense of fun and the quote of Marcus Aurelius but I am down to the fifteen minute mark for the weekend engagement prompt.
I have been too busy. I got up this morning on the wrong side of the world. Mondays are like this. It's like you are on top of the world on Sunday and then Monday morning someone is shouting, "GOOD MORNING!!"
Our son goes to an all Korean school except for him and we found out he has been bullied the past semester. Ever since his midterm results came out and a kid found out that my son's scores were lower than his the kid with a low self esteem tried to make himself better by picking on my son. My son is taller than him and bigger, but too nice.
Last night my son told me the whole story about how the kid came up behind him and jump kicked him. He said the other kids heard the baam and a couple kids saw it. Mostly he only attacked when no one was around so there would be few witnesses.
Today they were brought for investigation, but the stupid school board interviewed them together. Of course he is going to agree with everything the bully says. He is only twelve years old. The bully comes up with the story that he was only practicing martial arts and my son just happened to block the path. The school board agrees with the boy because he lost his mother. That is a tragic story but it doesn't make it right to bully other kids.
Anyway it was a bad hair day and nothing really works at work today. I am supposed to register for some training course but my ID doesn't work because my phone cannot be verified because I am a foreigner. The Superintendent of Seoul schools has a plan to hire more foreigners to teach English, but he doesn't want to raise their pay. After twenty years it's been the same. I'm not sure how he wants to get the teachers to come here and make minimum wage. One of the plans is to lower the requirements to become a teacher here to keep the pay scale low. I don't think that's a good idea.
Nothing is working so of course my hair doesn't work. I'm just glad I wasn't one of those people stuck in the flood. Mostly my hair is messed up because I wore a helmet and sweat a lot.
I did have a good cup of Chai at a Tibet cafe.

Yeah bad idea. That's why Australian schools aren't doing so well - shit teacher = shit education. PE teachers teaching english? FFS.
I'm sorry your son was being bullied and the school is mishandling it. That's out of order. I get really angry at anyone bullying and there's no excuse for it. Sure, get the bully some help, but don't accept the behaviour, otherwise it continues. At least you know though.
It was a rude awakening. I knew something was up since midterms but couldn't get anything clear except, "I hate school." It wasn't until a friend of his came over to our house that it all came out. It seems that parents should not only be friends with their own kids but also with their kid's friends.
The semester is over now and things should go back to know. The bully kid is under a strong warning and hopefully they can exist in the same classroom without any more problems. Korean schools start in March so we have one more semester.
I’m sorry to hear what your son is going through at school. My daughter had a similar run in not too long ago - it’s heartbreaking to see your little one dealing with cruel and unfair crap at the hands of another kid (or anyone for that matter, but if it were and adult…)
Yeah... an adult would be prosecuted. Kids still have the capacity to learn as long as they are given the opportunity and some guidance. I got in two fights in middle. The second fight with with a large boy. Everyone in school heard about it and my dad heard about it. He immediately went to the kid's house to talk with his father about what happened. They laughed and the kid and I became friends. That wasn't a bully incident though. The kid my son met needs a lot of growing up and with the help of the school I think he may have a chance. I was pretty angry yesterday, but today is a new day. Things seem to be working out and I have hope that if two boys can get along now then maybe in the future there will be less jerks ruling the world than today. Yes. I think they reconciled now and he has a strong warning so it's like a second chance for both of them. It's good this happens when they are twelve and they can resolve it. Some never learn.
Oh man sorry to hear about your son's challenges. I hope those issues are resolved soon. You sound like a solid, caring father.
So the conclusion today was that the kid can't touch him or will be brought before a whole committee including lawyers and police and be held on his record. This was his last chance. They will still be in the same class next semester. I don't really get it, but my wife said it is fair to give the kid a chance so I can only agree. Marriage is much like signing a software agreement. When you get to the bottom line you have no choice but to click "I agree".
Oh man. Hmmm I don't get that either but, I suppose if this is actually the final warning, the last straw, I guess it's a decent decision. Yeah, marriage definitely seems challenging. Hoping for the best!!! 🙂
