As someone who has been working towards achieving a high level in their career or software development journey for a few years, it can be overwhelming and frustrating when it feels like progress is not being made. However, it's important to remember that everyone starts from scratch and it takes dedication and hard work to become proficient in a skill.
Recently, I became concerned about the lack of attention my LinkedIn profile was receiving and the fact that I was not being invited for interviews as I expected. This reason made me to restrategize.
On January 5th, I took a bold step and spoke with an old friend in the UK about my situation. He referred me to a backend developer colleague in Germany, who offered me a mentorship session through adplist.
This was my first time participating in a one-on-one mentorship, and I was eager to learn from someone with more experience.
Don't laugh at my wack workstation. Please!
During our session, I asked for advice on why I had not yet been able to land my first developer job despite applying to numerous positions. My mentor suggested that I revamp my CV using Google Docs and then check its quality with resumeworded.com. Immediately after the session, I spent 2hrs revamping my cv, portfolio, and LinkedIn profile. While I still have some work to do, I was pleased to see that I received a score of 50%.
I will be meeting with my mentor again once I have finished revising my CV, and we will be reviewing my updated CV and a codebase for a Discord clone.
I am excited to continue my journey as a frontend developer and potentially transition into full-stack development by learning NodeJS and SQL.
I am also open to collaborating with other programmers and am available for a frontend role.
