5 Simple Hacks for Being a Better Streamer

Streaming isn’t for everyone, but if you think you have what it takes (and a willingness to put in a lot of hard work), here are some tips for becoming a better streamer.

Becoming an effective streamer requires more than just streaming often and having a decent internet connection. You need to develop a persona and brand that is attractive to your audience; be engaging, natural, and charismatic while streaming; and have the dedication required to build your following over time. If this sounds like something you’d be interested in pursuing, read on with these tips for improving as a streamer.

1. Figure out your goals for streaming

Before you start streaming, you need to figure out what your goals are. Are you looking to build a following? Maybe you want to earn money through streaming? Whatever your goal is, it's important to know where you're trying to go before you can get there.

When you first start streaming, it's easy to just do it for the sake of doing it. But that can quickly become overwhelming, especially if you're new to the world of streaming. You'll want to take stock of where you stand and what your goals are before you jump in headfirst. This will help keep things on track and keep you from burning out.

Another thing to think about when you first start streaming is how much time you're willing to dedicate to it. Are you willing to put in 4-8 hours a day? Or do you only want to stream for 2-4 hours per week? Knowing how much time you're willing to commit will help drive your goals and help keep things on track.

2. Be yourself while streaming

Streaming is a great way to connect with your fans and build a personal connection. However, you need to be yourself while streaming– don’t try to act like a different person just because it’s a different setting. If you want your viewers to feel connected to you, they need to see you as the real you.

If you're streaming as a persona, think of it as a virtual identity that you create for yourself through streaming. You’re presenting different versions of yourself depending on the type of content you’re sharing. This can include different outfits, makeup, and other props. When you stream, your persona is front and center, so people see a consistent version of you across streams.

When you’re streaming, keep these things in mind:

  1. Be authentic: Don’t over-think or over-prepare before your stream. That can make you tense and nervous. You’ll be more likely to come across as scripted and fake if you do that. Instead, just relax and go with the flow of the stream. Your viewers will appreciate that more than anything else.

  2. Engage with your audience: Talk with them at all times during the stream. Ask questions, give advice, or talk about your interests (if relevant). You’ll develop a connection with them while they watch your stream and they’ll grow attached to you as a result. That makes them more likely to stick around for future streams and buy whatever you're selling (Subscription, merch...) when they see it!

3. Develop an engaging stream setup

In order to build an engaged audience, you must have a clear and effective content strategy. One of the most important aspects of any successful stream is the setup. The setup should be engaging and fun for viewers. It should also focus on building trust with your audience members by providing information that they find valuable.

There are a lot of streamers out there that you can follow and get inspiration from. This is especially true if you’re just getting started or if you’ve been streaming for a while but want to see what other people are doing. You might be surprised at how many different types of streams there are out there!

Once you’ve created a good setup, it’s time to start engaging with your viewers. Keep them engaged by asking questions and providing information that they want. You can also involve your viewers by commenting on their posts or even live chatting with them. By engaging with your viewers, you’re building a sense of connection and giving them a reason to tune in every day. In addition to building engagement with your audience, you can also build engagement within your own channel as well. By posting frequently, interacting in other channels, and actively participating in conversations, you can build followers that will come back for more content in the future.

4. Don’t forget to have fun while streaming

If you are serious about streaming for a living (or as a side gig), you will need to be able to have fun while doing it. If you are only interested in streaming for the money and not for the love of it, then you will not be able to sustain yourself over the long term. So remember to always have fun while streaming, even if you are not getting paid (yet). You can still enjoy the experience and gain a new appreciation for what you are doing.

While you might not be making loads of cash, there is still something to be gained by being on camera. Seeing yourself on camera can be nerve-wracking at first, but as time goes on and your confidence grows, you will start to feel more relaxed and in control of the situation.

Having fun while streaming is also important because it will help prevent burnout. If you are too focused on immediate results, then you may end up feeling unmotivated to continue streaming.

5. Stay consistent and build up your audience over time

As a streamer, consistency is key to growing an audience. No one will watch your stream if they don't have anything to watch. It's important to consistently post new content and build up an engaged community of fans who are interested in what you're doing.

Of course, you can't just sit back and expect your viewers to show up. You'll need to be active and engaging yourself as well. Share fun clips and engage with the community in other ways, like posting updates or answering questions from viewers.

Your goal as a streamer is to build a loyal following through consistent content creation and engagement. Once you've established that, it's time to start monetizing with ads or subscribers. But start slow – don't rely entirely on either of those two things until you have a solid base of viewers who are willing to support you.

Conclusion

There's no one-size-fits-all solution to becoming a better streamer. It all comes down to what you're looking for out of your experience.
However, there are some general principles that you can follow that will help you become more engaging while streaming.

Consistancy is my biggest downfall when it comes to streaming. I get that from podcasting. Record it when I want to. Not on a set schedule, lol.
Another thing is streaming when your audience is able to watch. Seems like most of my audience is either sleeping or working when I get time to stream.
But I want to stream! Got the drive and the know how. Just need the time.

The schedule is the challenge, but it's a good one to nail. Even if it's one night a week, that's a huge start.

And don't worry too much about time zone. Someone's midnight is someone else's lunchtime. A buddy of mine that was streaming on that purple site would start his streams at almost midnight and go until close to 3 in the morning if not later. He found a following with Polish viewers who were just waking up and starting their day. They'd tune in while they were getting ready for work! Right now, in my area, it's just after lunchtime. But in Hawaii, the sun is just barely coming up. You can broadcast at any hour and have a chance that someone is going to notice you. Whether or not they're local is another story...

So true.
Im no stranger to the timezones. Most of the people who want to engage with me do it while Im on the day job cause they are on the other side of the planet after work already, lol.

nothing better than being one and having fun, especially if it is in community, to continue growing
