End Of The Tunnel

Just like we all came from a home called a family so do we always anticipate having our own family. This was the case for Morenikeji. Who is my neighbor and a very close friend.

Morenikeji was a very beautiful young woman who was of a marriageable age but was faced with so much disappointment from men. So she became desperate to get married and have Her own family. She dated a guy named Dele while She was at the university and She loved him. But they broke up before She graduated because He was cheating on Her with other ladies, and She couldn't condone it. But after breaking up, She couldn't get someone She could love like She loved Him. So after a few years of graduation, She witnessed all her friends getting married, She was the only one left to get married, so She became desperate. She made up her mind to marry the next guy that came.

Unfortunately, the next guy was Dele, Her ex-boyfriend. Morenikeji and I were invited by her colleague at work to a birthday party where she met Dele. Dele was looking so cute and presentable. Within a twinkle of an eye, Morenikeji forgot all Dele did while they were in school. The spark came back as they exchanged numbers and started the relationship afresh. Dele knew she was wife material and the kind of girl He wanted to spend the rest of His life with but He wasn't ready to stop seeing other ladies. But with the hope that He would stop and because She still loved him, they got married.

A year after the wedding, Morenikeji became pregnant. Seven months into the pregnancy, Dele lost his job. Dele worked with a very big brewery company and was highly paid. It happened that, during the preparation for the wedding, he gave his office computer login password to another staff to help Him do His job in His absence, but unfortunately for Him, some misdeeds were made with his login identity, and he couldn't give account for it. He wasn't allowed to take anything out of the company, not even His car. He came back to His pregnant wife empty-handed from work.

Dele became frustrated after a few days and started hanging out with his friends late at night. He decided to start working with one of his friends who owned a beer parlor. He stopped coming home regularly, with the excuse that, He was busy and needed to work to take care of the baby. He comes home once in a week. One night, He came home drunk, so Morenikeji accessed his phone and found out he had a girlfriend he was seeing, and they were always together; she even found pictures of them. She called me in the morning and I advised her to ignore it and focus on her husband and the baby. Though she was unhappy.

One night, Morenikeji woke up with a severe stomach ache, she didn't know what was wrong, so she tried all she could to make the pain stop but she couldn't, she called her husband on the phone in the middle of the night when she couldn't bear it anymore, He promised to be there early in the morning. My phone was also off that night. Oh! This was a night it didn't rain, it poured as Morenikeji started bleeding. She screamed for help so loud that we could hear her from our dreams. We quickly ran to her rescue and took her to the nearest hospital. She was told that the fetus was in distress and they needed to operate on her immediately. She signed her own consent form and she was quickly operated on. Luckily the baby survived and was kept in the incubator.

The next morning Dele arrived at the hospital drunk. It happened that He was actually at the club with His girlfriend. As soon as Morenikeji became conscious, She just started crying. She was crying because She couldn't see her baby beside Her like every other mother in Her ward, and also because of how Her husband turned out. She was disappointed in Her husband. She got discharged after a week but the baby stayed in the incubator for a month and survived. She got divorced two months after the baby was discharged from the hospital. She is presently a single mom.

I wonder if there was actually a glimpse of light at the end of Morenikeji's tunnel. Desperation leads nowhere. When you're single, celebrate your singleness; when you are about to choose, please choose the right one. Don't be moved by societal pressure because when trouble comes, it never rains, but it pours.
