Race To Gothi Mountain

in The Ink Well2 years ago

Centuries ago, the gods visited the earth. They walked in the ancient Lola island which was renamed to the mountain of the gods. Every now and then people from different parts of the world visits this Island and climb the huge Gothi mountains. On this mountain the prints of the gods were still visible. It is believed that if you could make it up to the mountain and put your feet into the large prints, it takes away all your problems and grants your wishes. This is only possible Once in a year, and you have to be the first person.

Over the years, thousands of people gave it a try to be the first to get to the top of the mountain. With technological advancement, the rich began to have an edge over the poor, as they could easily get into their helicopters and land on top of the mountain. The mountain watchers didn't allow this to go on for long. It is believed that the mountain watchers could speak directly to the gods. They spoke to the gods and ever since then, any helicopter that comes close to the mountain gets blown to pieces.

Sadly, 200 years ago, the mountain watchers disappeared, giving the rich the opportunity to manipulate and have an edge over the poor. They built robots, super fast boots, flying backpacks and several other devices that gave them an edge. Every year, the rich wins the race and keep wishing for more riches. With time the race to Gothi mountain became the race for the rich.

"Chris, why are you dropping all this history on me?"

"Look at you Jon. Your step father is dying, your mother has gone insane. You have nothing left to take care of your siblings with. You obviously need a miracle."

"And you think the solution is racing to Gothi mountain this year."

"How else do you intend to find a miracle?"

"Chris you said it yourself, it has become the race for the rich. I don't stand a chance against their crazy machines."

"There's the option of having a headstart and sleep on the mountain and wait for the miracle hour."

"And freeze to the death up there. Nobody can survive past 2 hours there."

"Didn't you hear about The man who survived a night on the mountain and claimed the miracle in the morning."

"Yeah, one man out of thousand others who died trying it out."

"Well then Jon. It all balls down to one option. You have to go and steal from your father. It's not exactly stealing if he is your father right."

"He hasn't been my father since I was two."

"That's motive if you ask me. This would be him paying for abandoning you. Steal one of his cool tech and you might stand a chance at winning the race and you are set for life."

Chris won the argument as he got his best friend to agree to stealing from his billionaire father. There they stood in front of the huge gate of the mansion with no clue how to get to the other side of the gate. The gates seemed to be as tall as the great walls of China. It was designed with gold embroidery and a giant Gold Lion head at the knob.

"Let's go through the back yards.", Chris suggested.

Once again there they stood in front of an electric fence guarding the yards with no clue on how to get through.

"Your plan is working great so far Chris."

"Well, it's not like I go around every night breaking into billionaire houses. I'm just a regular teenager like you."

"I say we scale through the fence."

"Jon, It seems you are not seeing the huge skull sign up there indicating that this is highly charged."

"I bet he is bluffing."

"That is a costly bet my friend."

"Only one way to find out."

Jon took off his jacket, threw it to the top of the fence and slowly made his way up the fence and over to the other side.

"Are you going to join me, or are you going to stay there being a chicken."

They walked quietly exploring the yard. None of them have ever seen so much technology in the same place. The yard was littered with several machines, some were making whirling sounds, some were ticking like a bomb about to go off. Not far from the mountain was his father's mansion. A house of eight gables, built in a way that looked like a huge face looking down on the world.

"How do we know which of this to go with?" Jon asked.

"The bigger the better I guess. Look out for any one that seems on and operational."

They were inside one of the machines checking it out when a shotgun was fired towards them.

"You boys got some nerves trying to steal from me. Jon I never knew your mother would end up raising a thief."

He cocked the gun and walked towards their direction.

"Chris! We need to get this thing working and get out of here."

"I have no idea how to operate this thing. They don't teach how to operate giant robot machine on school."

"Just push any button."

Jon's father was getting closer, meanwhile they kept pushing buttons until one of the buttons released a missle destroying the electric fence in front of them.

"My fence! You will pay for that." His father said shooting towards them again.

Finally the robot jerked forward, at first staggering until we hit a button that made it speed off. We jumped over the damaged fence which was lying on the floor. Jon's father was still shooting, but the bullets bounced off the giant robot-like machine.

"Chris! I think we should give up before we end up dead."*

"We are dead either way. We go back now, and your father kills us. We race to Gothi mountain, we might get killed by those billionaire racers who actually know how to operate these crazy machines. But I say we die fighting."

"We?" Jon asked surprise.

"I can't let you have all the fun alone on this one."

A crowd is seen seated in an auditorium. The walls were decorated with fliers of Chris Foundation. On the stage was Jon, his mother and Step father all well and hearty. Jon spoke into the microphone

"And that is my story my dear friends. I came out of the pits and won the race to the Gothi mountain and it changed my life forever. My best friend, his soul rest in peace, gave his life to ensure that I made it. I am forever indebted to him. Join me today, and we can give the poor equal opportunity in the race. Chris Foundation is there for you, If you know someone who deserves a miracle, but can't afford the machines."

Every body present stood up and applauded Jon, he gave a slight bow and exits the scene.

The things that we can hardly keep out of our minds is finding out the work and efforts our friends has contributed in our life's, although it is really sad if they end up death, it is good if they stay and witnessed our progress and see that, they didn't make a mistake by believing in us and making us better in life.

Exactly. There are friends in Life who would go extra miles for your sake.

What an imaginative story, @ghost.queen. Jon had a lot of obstacles to cross over in order to claim the prize. It's unfortunate that he lost his friend in the process. You've created an action-packed, suspenseful and poignant tale!
