Sometimes, small things wield immense power to change the course of history

Humans, I cannot have enough of them.

I know I am a small, shiny circle with just a miniaturely carved diamond stone as my only accessory but as small, and as insignificant as I may seem, I have even more dignity than these humans.

If not all, most of them.

Unfortunately, I cannot complain. My awful destiny is to serve these men for the rest of their lives and as they die, I live on to serve their children.

This generation, I am serving the most inhumane I have met through generations.

May I pride myself in a little flattery and tell you why I sit idly on this overgrown teddy bear’s, bloated middle finger? It is because I come from a long line of magical ancestry. My mother was a bewitched bracelet. When her skin began to fade from golden to bronze, she transferred her powers to me, a newly carved ring, making me special.

My father, was a crown, when his king was being laid to rest with him alongside, he gifted me one of his lucky diamonds, the one which now rests in the center of my frame, causing whoever puts me on to attain undeserved luck.

This man, Prime Minister Shakur, is the deadliest in all of Pi Empire.

To think that I gave him the powers with which he readily oppresses his poor, innocent, citizens makes me ashamed of who I am. I would have passed on my powers to another, but wherever such jewelry goes within the Pi Empire, it will still end up in the hands of Shakur.

Today is Ramath, the commemoration of Pi Empire.

To be honest, I do not know why Shakur throws so many celebrations and invites the entire village to attend when he does not provide meat or drink for them.

With their empty bellies, they come to entertain him with activities like dancing, wrestling, and singing.

When the celebration gets interesting and Shakur calls for his snack, Shakur signals to his maids and they begin to feed him with whatever they can lay their hands on; roast chicken, grapes, wine, and bananas.

I was certain this Ramath was going to be just the same.

I watched the usual drama unfold; 7 young girls went to his bathing area, cleaned him up, and escorted him back to his chambers. 7 other girls came in with his purple and gold robes and placed them on him. 1 special girl, the fairest of all of them, rolled his turban around his head.

She also handed him his staff of authority and led him out to be fed at the breakfast table.

I was uninterested in the scampering that was taking place, everybody was everywhere, trying to make the Ramath preparations satisfactory for Shakur when something happened.

A child, about 5 years of age, stumbled into Shakur's dining room and hit his breakfast tray, causing everything on it to come crashing to the floor. Shakur suddenly sprang up in anger and took this girl by her shirt, yelling into her face.

The girl's mother, who was Shakur's servant, was at his feet wailing for mercy but he kicked her off. When he finally flung this child away from him, she hit herself on one of the pillars in the palace and went unconscious immediately.

I began to burn with rage. Shakur turned his eyes to me and began to yell, trying to wring me off his finger. I did not stop burning until I chopped that finger off. Then I slipped off it and rolled over to the unconscious child.

As Shakur yelled in pain, I began a low hum near this child who was now in her weeping mother's arms. When the child could hear my voice, she stirred awake and subconsciously stretched her finger towards me. I hopped on the middle finger and waited.

She suddenly gasped as my powers overwhelmed her, her mother began to call for help in panic.

“She has the ring,” one of the servants gasped, pointing at her finger. I was shining brightly now, my glow radiating all over her.

“What is this?” Her mother was saying repeatedly. The girl rose, now completely empowered by me, and said out loud for everyone to hear.

“Hail the new Empress of Pi Empire!”

“Hail!” Everyone bowed.

“Shakur, your reign of terror has ended. Vacate Pi Empire at once!”

Shakur scampered out, still writhing in pain.

I was proud of who I possessed this time around, a child, pure of heart and intentions. I enhanced whatever was in the heart so Pi Empire was about to be ruled over by the sweetest individual that existed at the time.

And I was happy for Pi Empire, they were about to have the best celebration of Ramath.

An impressively original perspective, @iskawrite--the personification of a ring that carries a heritage from each parent. The story works well, in most respects. You certainly hold our attention, and readers always enjoy seeing a brute get his comeuppance. However, there are a few confusing lines, which with several readings might make sense, but the reader shouldn't have to work that hard.

The first line

Humans, I cannot have enough of them.

Suggests that the ring likes people so much, it cannot ever have too much of them. But then this line follows:

as insignificant as I may seem, I have even more dignity than these humans.

This line expresses utter disdain for humans. The two lines seem to contradict.

Also, the ring asserts

why I sit idly on this overgrown teddy bear’s, bloated middle finger?

What Teddy bear? Is the ring referring to Shakur? A Teddy bear is a thing of affection, a thing that children love. It's confusing that you refer to Shakur this way, unless you are not referring to Shakur.

You do a great job in bringing the scene to life, where the ring burns Shakur's finger. And the originality of the piece gives it extra merit. However, those few confusing lines do take a little away.

Thank you for sharing this fantasy piece with us, @iskawrites.

Thank you so much Inkwell 💖💖

About those confusing lines

The first statement means that the ring cannot stop dealing with humans. It was made for that purpose.

The second statement is an expression made from having dealt with humans over time especially those as wicked as Shakur (this was leading up to his introduction)

The third statement refers to Shakur and his looks. He looks chubby and tender but has a tough interior.

I am sorry for using the most loved object by kids to describe him

Wow, this was so intriguing to read. This is how it plays out most times in life. Those with power oppress the weak and treat the weak very poorly but then arises a saviour, a chosen one from the midst of the weak to liberate the entire populace from the wicked oppression.

Awwnn 🙈🔥🥳🥂

You got it right, baby girl. Thank you so much for reading with so much understanding. And I am glad you enjoyed reading. I appreciate you 💖

You're welcome dear

Superbbbbb piece of writing…really superb
It is astonishing to read each sentence of you how you contrived a story on ring.
The ring is looking very annoyed on the contemporaries. What can be the reason? Is it because now people are not valuing the real importance of ring ?

Thank you so much for reading. No, the ring was mostly upset about the person wearing it at the time... He wasn't the kindest person

A very original and interesting story. With each line read I became more and more excited about what was going on. I loved the ending. The power of the ring you described very well.

Regards @iskawrites

Thank you so much for the appreciation 💖

Amazing story, very creative @iskawrites . You gave a connotation to this contest. The best thing about it is that justice could be done. A new reign of peace and harmony began with the ring. Good luck in the contest

Awwnn. Thank you very much. I am glad you loved this 😍😍

Creative story! This is a difficult feat to pull off because of the perspective from the ring's pov. It is well crafted (with a few minor issues as highlighted by the @theinkwell's comment), and I'm glad that you took on the challenge.

Thank you so much for the appreciation. I tried my best and I am glad you loved it 💖💖
