Badly influenced/ creative nonfiction

Hello guys, this is my first time writing in this community.

Once upon a time in my life I was someone that could easily be influenced by my peers.

Pexel

That was when I was in college, we moved around alot because of the nature of my parents' jobs. So I went to different schools in college and it was not easy fitting into any of them. My own way of fitting in was to follow peers.

I don't mean the good ones😅, the last school I went to for college was the same thing, it was boarding school so my parents didn't have full watch on me. In order to fit in which didn't happen easily I had to make friends with people that I felt could help me fit in. I was still finding myself though so I didn't have a strong ground and I went for anything that I thought was good for me.

It was going well at first, till it wasn't anymore. My academic life was paying the price for my decision and it was paying dearly. It got to a point where my teachers were always complaining about my grades and even advising me to drop some of my courses.

So my mom had to come to school and she was not happy about what she was hearing, so she called me and talked to me. She said," you know that at the rate your teachers are complaining about your studies, you might end up repeating this class if you don't sit up and the friends I see you walking with I don't like them change them, I don't think they are helping you."

My mom is a very good judge of character so she knew the kind of friends I had just from seeing them and answering the greetings and she didn't like them. She was right because they never for once asked about my studies, never encouraged me to read and never helped me do anything concerning it.

It wasn't going to be easy to let go of them, I knew that but I also knew that if I continued with them then I was going to move forward in my academics and for such I was going to repeat the class. Before my mom left she asked to meet with the class prefect of my class and she paired us.

My mom told her and begged her to help me keep off the bad friends that I surrounded myself with, to encourage me in my studies and help me in anything I found difficult.

It was difficult to keep them off because they were very consistent and continued pestering me. It took a lot of determination for me to detach myself from them.

My class rep. became my friend so with her help, I was able to stop following my bad friends, I began taking my studies seriously and my grades changed for the better.

Lots of love from jhymie 🥰

That's rough. It's never easy to let go of those who might make you feel like you are fitting in, important as it is on a young age. That must have took a lot of courage, so I congratulate you a lot!

Thank you, it wasn't easy but I am happy I was able to do it. Thanks for stopping by.

Your mum is definitely the hero of the story, set you up with a good person who was able to help you detach from the wrong ones. At times it's not easy letting go of friends, especially when they aren't good for you. They keep coming back. Happy you did it and you did better from the onwards.

Yes, she is and the good thing is that it worked. Thanks for stopping by.

First thing first, let me give your mum some accolades 👏 she deserves it for disconnecting you from the bad companies. Thank God you met your class rep and was ready to learn too

Yes, my mom stepped in at the right time. Thanks for stopping by.

Bad behavior corrupt good manners. Many teenager's future have been destroyed due to bad influence. Thank goodness your mom stepped in at the best time.

It really has destroyed a lot of people. Yes I was very lucky that my mom stepped in at the right time

You were rescued from the bad companies at the right time. Bad friends will never encourage you to do things the right way, you just find yourself gisting and gossiping about lots of irrelevant stuffs while your academic is at risk.

You are very lucky to have been called back to order before it was too late.
Kudos 👍 to your mum.

Yeah, exactly they don't really care about your growth. Thanks for stopping by.

Moms are very smart and sensitive human beings. They always know when to hit the nail on the head. I like the fact that you weren't recalcitrant and decided to follow your mom's instructions. Some kids would have done the direct opposite of their parents instructions.

Right, some people would have just waved the instruction and continued with their lives. It's good my mom showed up. Thanks for stopping by.

The pleasure is all mine

Good to know you got help. Peers can influence you for good or for bad. Finding those who can impact on you positively is a challenge because in the first place, you may not know that you are being influenced.
Glad you also had parents who could keep you on the track of the good ones. Nice to read that your grades improved.

Unfortunately I was mixed up with the bad once but luckily I had a good parent. Thanks for stopping by.
