After a long search for a portable apartment, Philip finally landed one, just a block inside a fenced compound. He loved it because the house, a three-bedroom flat, is the only block within the fence, and he loves privacy to the core.
On his first day of moving in, he invited his girlfriend to come spend the weekend with him, and Mercy agreed without hesitation.
"Babe, do you know what I love most about your new apartment?" Mercy asked immediately after she had moved around the compound.
"Nop, you tell me," Philip responded.
"It's the one-man thing, no neighbors to interrupt privacy. I can come in anytime I want without being negatively looked at by neighbors." Mercy said so in a jealous tone, while Philip laughed at her.
"I love privacy you know, but I hope I don't get lonely when you're out. Anyways, I'm planning to get a dog to live around as a company," Peter said, walking inside the room.
"Dog? Baby no! I don't like dogs living in the same house unless you're going to keep it outside as security." Mercy got furious.
"Yeah, I'm keeping it as an outside friend plus security." Philip said in a loud from the room.
They spent Friday's night together, and Mercy left on Saturday evening. That same Saturday, Philip bought a dog and kept it outside in live roam around and secure the vicinity as well.
On Sunday morning around 8:00 a.m., the dog walked to the back(kitchen) balcony and began to bark.
"What's happening? Is this dog hungry this early morning upon all the food I have to it last night?" Philip said as he got up to check on the dog.
He got there, and the dog never stopped barking. He squad down and put his hand holding his phone and bunch of keys, through the door protector and tried to play with the dog. The dog tried to bite, and both the keys and phone forcefully fell out of his hand. He became shocked at what could make the dog bite tried to bite him..."the dog that he bought with his money."
He's stood up, trying to assume things while the dog angrily plays out with the phone and keys.
"Hey! Hey! Hey! Bring it back!" he shouted loudly at the dog, but it didn't give its ears to his shout.
The dog angrily played away with the items and pushed it to a distance he could not reach even if he tried to use a long stick or pipe.
Philip became helpless, he walked inside the parlor to see if he could pass through the door, but he met it locked the way he locked it before he slept last night.

He went back again to the back balcony to see if the dog had come to his senses and pushed back the bunch of keys and phone, but no way. He saw the dog, sitting and securing the phone and keys.
"Oh God!" He angrily exclaimed
He went back to the parlor to sit and think on what to do.
"Okay, let me see if there's a cutlass or hammer in this house. Let me use it to break the padlock on the balcony's door." He stood up and began to search for a cutlass or hammer in the kitchen. After minutes of searching, he realized that there was no way a cutlass and hammer would be in the house because he never brought any when he packed in.
He became more frustrated. He thought of calling his girlfriend to come and help out, but his phone was outside being guarded by the angry dog.
The time was 11:00 a.m., and he became heavily hungry. He decided to get something to eat in the kitchen before thinking further about what to do to remedy the situation.
He made tea and bread and ate them there in the kitchen, sweating heavily, his singlet soaked with sweat out of tiredness and frustration.
After the meal, he began walking around the house to see if he could come up with an idea on how to break out of the house to get his phone and keys from the dog. He spent up to an hour thinking and pondering, but nothing seemed to come, then suddenly, the dog began to bark again, this time in a more intense tone. The sound indicated that the dog was heavily hungry because the time was already 12 o'clock.
Then he went inside the kitchen, picked up four slices of bread, and went to the kitchen lobby.
"Hey, hey, hey," he called on the dog, not stretching his hand out as a protector to avoid being rushed by the dog.
He called several times, but the dog remained its barking.
Then he threw the slices of bread out, and to his surprise, this dog rushed the bread and devoured them.
He went inside and brought out a full loaf and threw it to the dog, which it joyfully devoured all of them with its tongue rolling out, asking for more.
Philip went inside to get another loaf, and as he returned, he saw his phone and key close to where he could get them. Yes, the dog had brought it back. He threw the bread in his hand to the dog, and as the dog was eating, he stretched his hand, collected the key, and gave a deep sigh.
Since that day, he made sure that the dog never lacks food.

This is my entry to the Month of March's Contest in The Ink Well Community
I really enjoyed reading and building the story.
Many thanks bro
Kudos to those who feel safe with dogs as pets, not me. I was entertained by your story. Thanks for writing.
Hahahah🤣
You're like me. I still find it hard to bond with dog because what if it bites?🤣
Thank you for reading dear
You're welcome.
Thank goodness Philip had more than one loaf of bread, or he may have never escaped! This would not only be bad for him, but for the dog as well. This is an entertaining and inspired take on the monthly prompt @kingsleyy. Thank you for sharing your story with us, and for your engagement with other members of the community.
Yeah, thank goodness he had enough to quench the burning dog. Just imagine if he had nothing at home, he wouldn't have gotten out untill maybe his girlfriend comes the next weekend 🤣
Thank you
A fearful dog. The poor man, unable to get his belongings, luckily discovered how to make the dog next to him, if he has food there is no problem. hehehe.
A good story for tonight.
Thanks for sharing.
Good day.
If he didn't remembered to give it good, he would have stayed inside till who knows when 🙇🏽♂️
Thank you fir stopping by
Lolz, the dog automatically became the one in charge of the home while with Phillips keys and phones. It could have been worse if he didn't have more bread at home.
Lol🤣
More worst if he didn't remembered to offer the dog bread at all. He never knew that it was hunger that made the dog to be possessed like that.
Thank you for stopping by boss
