Yin and Yang

After several divorces, Romulo had decided to remain single. At his age, 65, he wanted to live peacefully and away from the dilemmas that living with a partner entailed:

"You should get a woman!" - his friend Oto had advised him. At our age we need a companion to be with us: if you get sick or something happens to you, who will take care of you.

"No, thanks. I've had enough. I'm at peace as I am: I go out when I want, I spend my money and nobody tells me what to do. Besides, I'm a healthy man," said Romulo with an air of freedom and independence.

But since life takes many turns and the fish dies through the mouth, when Romulo met Rosa he felt his heart beat again as a heart in love beats wildly, and he had to swallow his words:

"Oto, I want to propose to Rosa that she come live with me",_ Romulo confessed to his friend one afternoon.

"Do it. There's nothing stopping you," Oto assured him.

"Something is stopping me. Rosa has two cats and you know how I am with cats. The fear I have of those animals is out of this world" - assured Romulo, feeling a shudder in his body when he remembered the two felines.

"Gee, my friend, don't let two cats be the obstacles to formalize the relationship. Tell Rosa about your phobia and look for a solution: maybe you can give them away," Oto resolved.

"I don't think so. Those cats are like children to Rosa and I'm really embarrassed to talk to her about my fear". - Romulo hesitated, conscious that the fear of cats, perhaps, was not a man's thing and Rosa could see him as a weak man.

However, love was stronger than fear, and Romulo let Rosa move into his house with her clothes, her habits and with those two cats, one white and one black, Yin and Yang, who immediately took over the space.

At first, Romulo tried not to run into the cats, especially when he was alone, but immediately he realized that it was impossible to avoid those two creatures that seemed like silent shadows that multiplied in all the spaces: in the bathroom, the living room, the kitchen and even in the bedroom, where Rosa let them enter without any restrictions:

"Leave them, Romulo, they must feel lonely out there and that's why they want to be with mom", - Rosa would say and hug the cats while they meowed as if they were newborn children.

It was not only the presence of the cats, it was also Romulo's suspicion that those animals had smelled his fear:

"They chase me everywhere and stare at me in a threatening way, fixedly, as if they wanted to tell me something" - said Romulo to Oto, one afternoon while they were drinking beers.

"are your exaggerations. And if it were true, what could two cats do to you?" - Oto asked his friend, making it clear that they were just lucubrations, crazy imagination, childish fear.

But everything would get worse. One day Rosa arrived with the news that she had to visit her mother and would be away for two days:

"Yin and Yang stay with you" - Rosa decided and although Romulo tried to convince her to take them with her, the girl left leaving the felines with the man.

The first night, Romulo left the cats outside the room, but the animals did not stop running their claws through the wooden door and meowing like a child's cry:

"Mamauuuuuuu, mamauuuuuu"

In the morning, when Romulo left the room, the cats had made a mess in the house and the two of them were lying on the dining room table. Romulo did not dare go to the kitchen and left quickly, locking the house, fearing that the cats were after him.

Outside, he postponed going home, the thought of meeting those cats was terrifying. But the night came and he had no choice but to go back. When he opened the house, he smelled the strong odor of the cats. At first glance he didn't see them, so he tried to run to his room to lock himself in. But out of nowhere the cats came out and stood in front of the door, defiantly and head-on. Romulus felt the blood drain from his body and a cold sweat broke out on his forehead. He tried to shoo them away, but the cats remained motionless, baring their fangs at him. Filled with courage, he tried to open the door and one of the cats meowed loudly and the other jumped towards Romulus, who, frightened, shrieked:

"Cats of the devil"

He screamed and felt an indescribable pain in his chest. She squeezed hard and fell to her knees. His mouth felt dry and his vision blurred. Romulus didn't know when he fell completely to the floor, his eyes wide open and his mouth trembling. He only saw when Yin and Yang approached him with their claws that looked like sharp knives and his breathing stopped before those two black and white beasts crying like children:

"Mamauuuuuuu, Mamauuuuuuu...."

Yin y Yang
_No, gracias. Ya he tenido suficiente.
_Algo me detiene.
_Mamauuuuu, Mamauuuuu..

Sort:

Romulus should have told Rosa his fears. Although a man’s ego always seems to get in the way. I believe there is a continuation of this story cos it doesn't seem complete. All the same, well done

Sometimes the ego is stronger and here are the consequences. Best regards and thanks for your comment!

Ohh the ending is quite tragic!
It seems her fear is more than she could bear. Romulus should have talked to his partner about his fear so they could both find a solution.

Very good story, as always, friend.

Dude, it's so good to see you back on the platform! I haven't read your great stories for a while. It will be a pleasure to read you again. Regards

It is always a pleasure to have you in my space. Greetings!

Poor Romulus, the cats won the battle. Your story is very entertaining; the element of fear and the cats make that you keep the reader in suspense until the end.

Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Excellent day.

There are things so everyday that they can be scary and people may be surprised that strange phobias exist. Fear is everywhere. Greetings and have a nice day, my friend

It's a scary story, I even felt poor Romulo's fear in me.
Those cats really were evil pets. They are far from being true to the name Yin and Yang.

Indeed! I, who am afraid of cats, know that some of them look like very scary creatures. hahaha. Regards

Haha I am guessing someone doesn't like cats!
Scary stuff and I quite like cats. Giving you a big calming hug, watch my fangs Nancy 😁
