Miss Rebecca’s Long Goodbye.

Fortune schools recruits new teachers once in three years and it’s one ofbthe biggest and most popular schools in Lagos state where the pay a ridiculous amount of school fees. Due to that, a lot of young graduates want to be teachers of that school because they pay teachers well and treat their staffs nicely.
Rebecca, a first class graduate of Cresent University who has been seeking for a job since the past four years heard about this job opportunity and decided to apply even though she was reluctant about it because she has tried in other companies countless times but she wasn’t employed.

I only applied for this job because you asked me to. It’s not like I really want to apply, Rebecca told her friend, Lesley.

Don’t worry. You may be lucky this time, Lesley said back to her friend, Rebecca.

Rebecca passed the first stage of the interview and the second stage was a physical interview. She read everyday of her life making sure that she passed the physical interview.

Hello, hello. I passed the interview and I’ve gotten the job, Rebecca called Lesley to spread the goodnews to her.

Aww, I’m the happiest person on earth right now. Congratulations to you. How about the salary range? Is it good? Lesley asked.

It’s beyond good. Thanks for sharing this opportunity with me, Rebecca said and their chat continued.

Lo and behold, Rebecca was employed at Fortune school as a class teacher in Year one.
Rebecca felt this would be like every other school’s job which would mainly be about teaching but when she git there, things were different. It wasn’t like every regular school’s work she knew.
As time went on, Rebecca started to get along with her pupils and the school’s work. She was so kind to her pupils in class that the kids don’t ever want to miss school and during the weekend, they asked their parents if they can go to school to see Miss Rebecca.
Even when the pupils are not feeling fine, they still want to go to school. Their parents wondered why the pupils liked Miss Rebecca so much and the school administrators saw this move as well.
The term ended, they had a party and so many parents showered Miss Rebecca with gifts because she’s kind to their children.

I think Miss Rebecca is a good teacher so I feel we should send her to our branch in another state and we may even have more pupils that way and we will increase her salary, Mr Frederick, one of the administrators of the school suggested.

That’s a good idea. I can see how she teaches the pupils and how they are attached to her. That’s going to be very nice, Mr Thomas, another school administrator seconded the idea.

Immediately, they started to make moves but Miss Rebecca didn’t know there was something about to happen to her. Miss Rebecca already promised her kids that when they resume in the next term, they are going to have some practicals.
On the resumption day, the pupils were so happy to see Miss Rebecca again and the head teacher, Mrs Arowolo entered Miss Rebecca’s class and dropped a letter on her table then left the class immediately.

After the school closed, Miss Rebecca opened the letter and when she checked what it entails, she got to know the school’s move about transferring her to their other branch. Immediately she read the letter, tears rolled down her eyes. She started crying on her desk.

How do they expect me to leave my lovely pupils?, Rebecca asked herself.

Unfortunately, she was given a day’s break at work so she can get herself prepared and resume at the new branch on the third day.
When the pupils got to their class on the next day, they saw Mrs Blessing sitting on Miss Rebecca’s desk. They were surprised to see that happen.

Ma, where is Miss Rebecca, Royalty, the class captain asked.

She has been transferred to another branch and I’d be your class teacher henceforth, Mrs Blessing responded.

Immediately every pupil in class heard this, they started shouting, we miss Miss Rebecca, and some of them started crying right away.
The principal heard their noise and came to the class to calm them down. She addressed the pupils but they still could not believe what they heard. All they said was, bring back Miss Rebecca, I won’t come to this school again, and all other sort of sentences.

Surprisingly, the pupils saw Miss Rebecca at the entrance of the class. All of them ran to hug her.

They lied to us that you have been transferred to another branch, one of the pupils said.

*They didn’t lie. It’s the truth. I only came to say a long goodbye to all of you, Miss Rebecca answered and the pupils even cried more.

The pupils were sad throughout the day and some of them even felt sick. Truly, some of them stopped coming to the school because Miss Rebecca is no more teaching at the school.

Aww
This made me remember a teacher named Aunty Folakemi. Eventually, my mum changed my school. I cried almost everyday because I missed her

That’s so cute
I’m sure she misses you too

Miss Rebecca was indeed a lovely teacher for the pupils to request for her.
This made me remember a scene that was created by the pupils in one of the schools I worked, the pupils refused to come to school because one of our favorite staffs was sacked. The management had to beg her to come back because they lost a lot of pupils.

Wow
There are teachers like that though

Yea, there are.

Miss Rebecca is just like some teachers we have out there
There are truly some people who are very amazing

Sure
Some people are just so sweet and lovely

Awnnnn Miss Rebecca was surely loved by the pupils, and that's the beauty of teaching.
