"Hey Tola, I would love to invite you and your husband to my 40th birthday party, you've always shown up for me whenever I needed help. You are an important part of my life, make sure you are present. I will send the soft copy of the invitation card to you", Sarah joyfully explained to her childhood friend Tola over the phone.
"It's okay, girl; I will make sure to be there. I'm not sure about my husband, but I will try my best to persuade him", Tola replied with a smile.
Recently, Tola and her husband had been having Marital issues due to her husband's infidelity, which had been a major concern in Tola's life and made her stay away from her friends. That's why Sarah was insisting she come around for her party so that she can have some time away from home.
"Welcome, honey; how was your day at work?" Tola asked her husband, who just returned from work.
"Fine, thanks," Tola's husband Kayode replied sternly and headed to his room.
"Wait for honey, I don't know what you would like to eat, but I prepared rice and semolina. Which one should I serve?", Tola asked Kayode in fear.
"I've eaten, thanks, and please don't disturb me; I want to sleep. I had a busy day at work", Kayode said and slammed the door to his room.
"Hmmm, what is my offense? Why is this man acting this way?", Tola said to herself.
The next morning, Tola sat in the living room waiting for her husband to come out of his room so that she could discuss Sarah's birthday party with him.
"Good morning honey, how was your night? What would you like to eat? I couldn't talk with you yesterday because you needed rest so I thought of bringing it up this morning. Sarah wants to host a party for her 40th birthday and we are both invited", Tola quickly said.
She had to quickly say all she had to say because her husband wouldn't wait for her to complete her words if she was taking it one after the other.
"I'm not eating and not interested in going to the party; you can go if you want to. I have no business with your Sarah", Kayode said and left home.
Immediately, Kayode left, and Tola was soliloquizing when her phone rang, and it was Sarah.
"Baby girl, good morning, how was your night? I just called to remind you not to forget my party on the weekend. I want to see you seated at that party, and I've discussed it with your husband even though I know he might not come", Sarah said affirmatively.
"Come on, Sarah, you know how busy he is, I will come, but Kayode may not be chanced to be there", Tola said calmly.
"I know, busy indeed. Anyways, see you by the weekend, don't be late and take care of yourself", Sarah said and hung up the call.
Tola continued to persuade her husband to follow her to the party which he declined even until the day of the party. Kayode told Tola he had an important task at the office on that Saturday morning and wouldn't be chanced to follow her to the party.
When it was time to go for the party, Tola dressed gorgeously in a navy blue gown with a gold shoe and a bag to match with gold earrings and a necklace coupled with a gold wristwatch, looking radiant. She called Sarah to inform her that she was on her way; she drove down to the venue, and on getting there, she called Sarah again, who sent someone to usher her to her seat.
After a while, Sarah came running to her giving her several hugs and commending her dressing.
"Baby girl, you're looking gorgeous; who wouldn't love to have such a beauty in his home?", Sarah said with a broad smile.
"Stop flattering me, wow, I love the decorations here. My friend is finally 40 years old, the small girl of yesterday", Tola said sarcastically.
"I am a madam now, don't see that little girl in me anymore. Just relax, baby girl. I will send someone to bring a chilled wine for you. As my baby girl, you deserve a princess treatment", Sarah said joyfully as she hugged Tola and left because some people were calling her.
"She can't change; she is too playful," Tola said to herself with a smile.
A wine with snacks was brought to Tola which she was munching on gradually as the party began. Other guests too were served and the party was bubbling as people were giving testimonies about the celebrant.
Tola was smiling about the beautiful things people were saying about her friend Sarah. She acknowledged their comments and confirmed that's how Sarah was.
Suddenly, two people entered who seemed like a couple and sat opposite her. She paid a closer look at them only to see her husband Kayode with another woman. For some minutes, Tola was dumbfounded and had mixed feelings that it couldn't be her husband. She tried to call him to see if the man would pick up or check his phone to be sure it was her husband. She picked up her phone from her bag and dialed her husband's number, only for the man sitting opposite her to pick up his phone and show it to the woman he came with while they both laughed. The call ended, and she tried it again, yet no response.
Kayode's mistress, Seun, was invited to Sarah's party by one of Sarah's other friends, and she asked Kayode to escort her to the party. Unknown to Kayode it was Sarah's party. Until he raised his head and saw the banner with Sarah's picture on it.
Tola asked one of the ushers to call her Sarah. After a few minutes, Sarah arrived, and Tola showed her where her husband was sitting with another woman.
"This was the same party he refused to follow me to, Sarah. Can you imagine?" Tola said amidst tears.
"Don't cry baby girl, you will stand up now and walk up to him. We are going to confront him" Sarah said angrily.
"I don't want to ruin your party; let me just leave because I can't sit here and watch my husband all over another woman," Tola said, sobbing.
"You are going nowhere, wipe your tears and do as I say. You need to show him you are not a coward", Sarah protested.
Sarah walked back to her seat as she branched to Kayode's table to say hello to him.
"Mister Kayode, it's nice to have you around, where is my friend? You are supposed to come with her. Why are you alone?, Sarah asked looking sternly.
"He is not alone; he is with me," Seun said.
"And who are you, if I may ask?" Sarah said angrily.
Just as Seun, Kayode's mistress was about to answer. A voice came from behind.
"Honey, you didn't tell me you would be coming," Tola said, touching her husband Kayode by the neck.
Kayode couldn't reply to her; he was feeling uncomfortable, as people began to watch.
"Anyways, I'm glad that both my friend and her husband are here now. Kindly sit beside your husband, baby girl", Sarah said as she pulled a chair for Tola beside Kayode.
Sarah walked to the front, collected the microphone from the MC, and called out Tola with her husband for a dance, leaving the mistress angry at her seat. Kayode reluctantly stood up while Tola dragged his hand to the front. Seun, the mistress, was angry, and as she wanted to stand up, a young man walked up to her and called her Dara's mom. This alerted Kayode as she knew Seun to be a single lady not married.
"It's nice to see you again; you are finally living the life you wanted, leaving your daughter to crave her mother's presence every day," the young man said.
Immediately, Kayode left the dance floor and rushed towards Seun, who was denying knowing the young man.
"What did you mean by daughter? Kayode asked angrily.
"You must be the man she came with. Well, she was once married to me, and we had a daughter together. She was three years old when her mother left us for another man because of money", the young man said pointing to Seun.
"Seun, speak up; you told me you are never married, right? Say something", Kayode shouted at Seun who was fidgeting.
"I'm sure you are not the first catch, anyways I just wanted to say hello", the young man said and left.
"I can't believe I left my wife for someone like you, you left your husband and child? And here I am running after you", Kayode lamented.
Sarah and Tola stood behind and watched the confrontation between Kayode and his mistress, Seun. Other guests at the party were watching and also passing different comments.
"Honey, let's go home, it's enough", Tola said to her husband who was fuming angrily at his mistress.
I've wronged you so badly over this lady, I left my family catering for someone who left her husband and child for money", Kayode further lamented.
"I understand, honey, let's go home; people are watching," Tola said to her husband.
"Listen, lose my number, don't ever call me, am I clear? Don't make that mistake", Kayode said and left with his wife.
On getting home, Kayode apologized to his wife; they settled their differences. Tola prepared her husband's favorite meal and they both ate. Kayode cut ties with Seun and focused more on his home. After a few months, Tola became pregnant, and she and her husband live together happily.
Thanks for your time and your comments will be appreciated.

It was a story filled with scandals and I enjoyed it. Tola played his wife, and he ended up being played.
