By allowing her to play football.
Finally I had to agree to her demand and allow her to play football, may be she has got it in her genes inherited from me. Girls playing football is unusual at my place, and when she showed interest in playing football, I was not very comfortable given the risks the sports carries and also there is not much opportunity for football in this country, especially for girls. India is mostly a cricket place - other sports are way behind that. You have already seen some of my previous posts on my experience going through a surgery and suffering for more than a month, to fix the injury from playing football. So it was a straight no to her but then she did not stop pushing me - how can you discriminate between boys and girls ? Being a father you should not do that. There is not much scope, but we have a national ladies football team, which means girls are playing.
I had no answer, OK, fair, I agree with you, but do you know the risks the game carries ? Have a look at what I went through in this post. This is why I write my blog, so that you can see them when needed.
After going through the post, she came back after some time - Did you stop playing football after that ? You are still playing, isn't it ? If you can play then why can't I ?
Ok, give me some time to think......
The lady is totally against football, hearing our conversations, a loud voice coming from the other room - "like father, like daughter", don't come home with injuries.....
My daughter murmured - But you can understand, right ?
Don't listen to your Mom, who listens to ladies !!!!
Should I tell that to Mom ? Girl........you want me to stay hungry!!!
I managed to convince the lady - it's not about football, every sport has tremendous impact on our personality, by getting engaged in a sport, she will be using all her excitement in a positive way, so we should allow her. I understand football is risky, but if that is what interests her, then we will have to support her....And sports will definitely bring in more discipline in her.
And then next day we went to Decathlon, she picked her choice of football and other accessories. After few day of practice, she has managed to be part of the school team and wanted to buy a studs for her inter school. I have given her a turf studs to begin with - along with a leg guard to protect her. When I used to play for my college, Dad strictly denied giving money to buy a basic studs - costing 100₹ only at that time. My teacher was so impressed with my interest for the game that he bought me a studs - I would keep that in the college only and not bring home so that Dad won't know. Back in our time, education was the only thing, that we were told to focus. Our parents were thinking if we get engaged in sports then we will deviate from education. But that's completely wrong - I have felt it myself - sports makes us a better person by preventing our attention going towards bad stuffs.
Now everyday, it's fun to hear about her experiences that showcases her excitement for the game - reminds me about our time - Mom would often scold, but nothing could stop us.....She has got most of the qualities inherited from me - the lady's permanent observance😀
Isn't that something to be proud off ?

uh huh.. a chip off the old block is the saying.. :) I think girls are well made for football since they have powerful legs. I remember playing soccer back in elementary days. I was the goalie or I played center. I tried to join the high school team, but after a few years of not playing, I wasn't nearly in shape for it, so I passed on it. :P
yeah.. just always wear those shin guards and she should be all good! 😉😎👊
Ya, shin guards are must, I have already told to learn from my mistake.
In USA girls football (we call it soccer around here) is very common. Though I was surprised to learn recently that there is somewhat of an association of girls soccer and certain minorities.
Ya, its a little odd here, football is not very popular, India is mostly a cricket country.
It’s good that you are supporting your daughter’s dreams
I wish her the best
Thank you, I could see the same instinct like me, so finally agreed.
i wish her best of luck
A good father always consider their children especially their daughters thank for allowing her but she's too innocent, she is protected from any harm i know football is not child's play I mean is tough thing
I love the fatherly attitude you showcase by allowing her to play football at the end
It’s rare to see girls who love to play football but kudos to you for being a great father for allowing your daughter to do her wish
I wish her well
Thank you.
We also have mostly men playing football here in the Philippines as well. It's good that you're supportive.
I love the way you're trying to encourage your girl. I hope she would not get injured like her father, Lolz. Thanks for sharing.
Girls play football here but I have never been interested, I don't even understand the running around. She must have inherited the passion from you and I wish her success.
You have a beautiful family... 😊
Yes, feels like, thank you.
She definitely got her determination from you. Wishing her all the best in the game!
Good morning, dear friend @sanjeevm
Soccer is a beautiful sport; it creates emotions in those who play it. I'm not surprised you're also passionate about it.
You did well to let your daughter participate in this sport, and as you say, it brings wonderful anecdotes to share with the family.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Absolutely inspiring! Supporting her passion despite the odds shows true growth, both as a parent and a person.
This made me smile while reading it. Supporting her dreams is so awesome despite some reservations that you have
Good morning, Mr. @sanjeevm
What a beautiful sport your daughter chose. My congratulations to her. It's a very competitive and exciting sport.
In my country, Argentina, women play soccer.
Have a beautiful day.
Ya, soccer is famous there, unfortunately we don't have such publicity here.
Your daughter posed observations and questions in extremely smart ways, you couldn't really keep saying no... Every sport can bring injuries, volley too, tennis too... You did the right choice making her try it and follow her inclinations
Girls can indeed play football. I so much admire your daughters dedication towards what she wants in life.
A very beautiful piece, I must say
It's a thing of the past now. No parent would speak bad of football after seeing the way they make their money. Although, in my days it was the same as yours. My parents wouldn't allow me to play football. I always sneak out to play unknowingly to them.

In this type of case, I have seen initial discomfort in almost all families. But such discomfort should not be about the societal, but rather should only be limited to practical concerns. In any society, progress begins with questioning the status quo, even when it feels uncomfortable. The role of parenting becomes profound in such cases.
Education has evolved into something to accommodate extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. That is really important for developing the personality traits and generate confidence in different environment, it also strengthens inter-personal skills.
It connects your past to your daughter’s present, showing how lessons learned through your own struggles can pave the way for a more enlightened approach to parenting. It’s a testament to the idea that growth is a lifelong journey, and we can rewrite the scripts we inherit.
Thank you.
