Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #128

Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!
In this post, we'll announce the winners from last month's contest and provide the prompt for the coming week.
Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
- Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
- We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
- Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
- Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
- We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
- Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Highlighting @zerah, with the story:
Unexpected Guest
I shut my laptop and stood up. Then I stretched myself before walking to the door. My whole body ached as it still carried the weight of a long week. It was a Saturday evening, but not my regular kind of Saturday that had me sitting down cross-legged on my sofa with a bowl of snacks to see a movie.
Curator's comment :
Easy reading, great descriptions and scene setting, as well as arc-driven dialogue and tightly formatted storytelling.

Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:
No one ever saw me
"It hurts me a lot, maíta, it hurts me," I said hoarse from crying so much and my grandmother would pick up my hair with tenderness, then she would use her hands, a magazine, a pot lid, anything she could find to produce the air I was lacking and to scare away the heat that was making me itchy.
Curator's comment :
@nancybriti1 writes a tender story about her suffering when she contracted chickenpox. This story explores with beautiful imagery and in a very fresh tone the innocence of a little girl who has a beautiful relationship with her grandmother and reveals the author's demonstrated ability to access her childhood memories.

Highlighting @hazmat, with the story:
Doctor's Orders
It had been a draining day at work and somehow the sky chose a Friday evening to pour down it's contents. The rain had started a few minutes already, but it was not as heavy as it could be considering the thunderstorms in the distance. I'd been waiting at the bus stop for about ten minutes, hoping to get a bus that would get me if not home, then at least not too far from home.
Curator's comment :
The @hazmat story is well thought out and well constructed. It is done in two different times, in the beginning the introduction allows to explain the end. The text is witty and proof of a careful work, where humor is played with a lot.
This Week's Prompt 128
Dawn.
Use the prompt to conjure a story about your life. You can use "dawn"-
In the literal sense: a story about a dawn that was auspicious in some way .
As a realization : perhaps something you hadn't considered dawned on you and altered your perception of a situation.
In the figurative sense: the beginning of a new chapter in your life.
Tell us about it! And remember to integrate storytelling elements like characters, scene setting, dialogue and action to bring your story to life!
Have fun and good luck! We look forward to reading your stories.
