Creative Nonfiction in The Ink Well Prompt #109
Source
Welcome to The Ink Well's weekly creative nonfiction prompt!
In this post, we'll provide the prompt for the coming week.
Before You Write Your Creative Nonfiction Post...
We ask that you read our Creative Nonfiction Tips post to learn about the creative nonfiction genre and review our guidelines.
Important notes:
- Creative nonfiction stories are based on your real-life experiences.
- We are looking for real short stories! Not advice columns, reports on crime or corruption in your city, observations on nature, recipes, religion, politics, or any other nonfiction content. Just real-life short stories.
- Ideal story length is between 750 and 1500 words, but your story must be at least 350 words, at a minimum to be curated.
- Please focus on quality content. Read and edit for errors! Use a grammar checker before you post your story.
- We expect everyone who posts in The Ink Well to read and comment on at least two other stories for each one published.
- Do not post stories featuring physical abuse, graphic violence, erotica or NSFW content.

Winner for October
@zerah wins 20 Hive, with the story:
Inhaling Christmas
"Christmas is coming" I whispered to no one but myself, stretching at the same time in bed with a huge smile on my face and so much joy within.
Curator's comment :
Zerah writes a delightful "Christmas" story about joy. What sets this piece apart is its dramatic simplicity: the piece offers a glimpse into Z's life. Her love of the holidays, her connection to her neighbour and ultimately the realisation that "joy" isn't something to discount. An excellent, uplifting piece of writing.

Highlighting @nancybriti1, with the story:
A Sunday that didn't feel like Sunday
"Tell your dad to turn down the volume on the TV or turn it off",_ Mom said to me, clenching her jaw. That message was the signal, to my sisters and me, that my parents were upset. When they were upset, we were the carrier pigeons between them: tell your dad that the food is served, tell him I'm out of the bathroom, that the flour is finished. And we went from one side to the other, carrying back and forth information.
Curator's comment :
Nancybriti1 writes a most delightful CNF about a day when her parents were quarreling. She and her sister were carrying messages between them like carrier pigeons. The mom retreated to the bedroom and the father left to go to the horse races, promising some goodies if his horse won.
Nancy does a wonderful job of building excitement as the two young girls (Nancy and her sister) watch the horse race on TV. She narrates the announcer as the father's horse comes from behind to win the race. The mom comes out of the bedroom to see what all the fuss is about, and she too jumps and shouts for joy... and is much more accommodating when her husband returns home from the races.

Highlighting @osomar357, with the story:
Between birds and tools
And if it is true that for me that job meant an extra income of money, it is also true that there is nothing that gives me more joy, and that makes me feel more satisfied, than doing manual work that will last for years and that is constantly used, and that people are happy with a job that I do.
Curator's comment :
Osomar has carpentry as a hobby and finds a certain joy in executing his woodworking expertise. This is a heartfelt piece that exposes some of O's deligfully humble inner soul with eloquent skill.
This Week's Prompt 109:
