Skate Photography #5: Rebuilding my skateboarding ledge

Shot above, the fixed ledge testing...

Good day everyone!

Today I am sharing with you photos of fixing my old ledge. Hahah, this ledge was built by us TWS crew back in 2017. We had a group effort and we made it from scraps and some new timber and plywood. This ledge I kept it in my house and only use it when we have vacations in the Philippines.

Back then when we were younger, we really have our own ledge and rail. We also build it ourselves DIY style. The last I saw these things was back in 2013. I do not know or remember where it went after I have left but it is gone now. So, in 2017 I decided to make a new ledge that I can quickly use every time I went home.
Our ledge and rail circa 2009 – 2013:

2017 – This is the ledge in its early stages. It was really a door from my house that was replaced. I had my eyes on it and told them not to throw it away and I will repurpose it. TWS crew helped a lot, it is not easy building especially when you are alone. @Toffer, Wensi, Rai, and Lawrence helped me build it. After finishing we set it up right away in front of my house and it was amazing to skate.

2019 – now when I visited last 2019, the ledge was still usable but needed a little reinforcement. Allan and I worked on it, and it was usable again. It was a tough ledge but still needs maintenance because nobody was using it and in storage all the time. I left it in storage again, this time I had no idea that we will not be going home for another three and a half years! Although I kept it right and stored properly, there was no way of knowing that termites might chew it! Hahaha.

2022 – as soon as I had my rest from the travel and met families and friends, I went up and looked at the ledge. At first, I thought it was fine because it seems the cover had protected it. I used it and tested it if it still can hold my weight and so far, it was fine. Then we skated it as a crew and it just fell apart. Hahah.

Now fixing it, I had to dismantle all the unusable wood and replace it with the new one. At the same time, I planned to lower it a bit about an inch. An inch maybe an inch, but the difference in effort for the pop is impactful, one more reason is that I am losing my pop and it is not what is used to be. Hahahah.

Finished ledge. It took me 3 days because of the rain and other scheduled outings but I managed to finish it and we were able to skate it.

Leaving again, now I hope no termite shall eat it out and I really hope we can come back next year.

Thanks for viewing my photos! I hope you enjoy a little bit of TWS history.

Cheers!
