Skatehive Goes To New York - Skateparks, Street Missions, and Networking with the Web3 Farcaster People

in SkateHive28 days ago (edited)

Hello all, I am going to compose a skatehive entry using the new website to make sure everything is working good. This post is about @xvlad and i's trip to New York city from Brazil. Vlad was invited to attend a crypto conference called Farcon and it was a good one-way ticket back to the United States for me, so I tagged along.

The trip started off a little hectic. Vlad forgot his laptop on the airplane so we were stuck at the airport for 6 hours waiting for them to clean the plane, find his laptop, and bring it to us. We stepped outside to have a smoke and this empty pack of cigarettes got me stoked.

so be it

We went upstairs to get some food and edit some footage from brazil. A funny memory i have from this time is that vlad noticed what i meant when I said that Brazil had amazing food. we got a burrito from a place in the airport and vlad said it was the worst burrito he ever had lol. The difference between North america and South america's food is, South america doesnt have shitty food. here in north america, some resturants just make bad food because its the only way they can make a profit.

Alright so we eventually got the laptop, hopped into the Uber, which cost like $60 compared to the $6 it would have cost in brazil, and headed to the Hostel we were going to stay at.

vlad enjoys our little outdoor balcony at the hostel

I had never stayed at a hostel before and it was cool having a travel buddy with me for my first time. The hostel was really nice. I think it was like $40 a night compared to the lowest priced airbnb or hotel in NY was about $300/night.

They actually had some awesome facilities, like the basement had a full pool table and wifi throughout. We occupied the basement a couple of nights and worked on stuff and met cool people there.

we pretty much had the basement to ourselves the whole night

Ok so on to the skateboarding part of this blog post. Vlad needed weed so we hit up a dispensary first, and then we skated to a skatepark called Blue Park that i had seen so much on instagram and was really stoked for because it was like a 5 minute skate from the hostel!

The skatepark was half DIY half skatepark. it was started as a DIY but the city deemed it an offical skatepark. I was in front of a high school, i think it used to be or still is high school property im not sure.

vlads wallride

Vlad was ripping, i think he was excited to be in the Big Apple. I was too, i ran into a person that I knew who runs the Village Psychic at blue park and talked to him.

We were out of place, and everyone was watchins us because we were ripping like we were doing a demo or something. it was fun. the energy was high.

i landed this crook to crook

Well it looks like the GIF creator i coded into the skatehive compose page works well. we will see how all this looks on the other front ends after i hit publish.

We found a bunch of spots too that I added to the skatehive Spotbook.

We remembed that there is actually a Skatehive OG who lived in the area, @floralshirtguy, so we hit him up!

the next day we met up with him and his squad and warmed up at blue park again and then toured some street spots with them.

@floralshirtguy, and two other tropical-shirt-wearing-fellas

Ill leave the youtube video edit here and you can watch the tricks we did.

i have to put this gif here again cuz im debugging why our gifs dont animate but i figured it out

we skated blue park and got all those clips the same day we arrived in new york at 6AM from a 12 hour flight:

I think from that last spot by the bay, we headed to the first farcon event thing. I probably wont include all the photos and stuff from that. I will instead skip to the HIGHER skate event that some of the farcon dudes put on at McCarren park.

IMG_3100.JPG

Colfax is a dude from farcaster. hes from denver and brought two vx1000's to the event. Vlad and I were the only ones skating this event so he was filming us. Im not sure what happened to that footage, the "skate scene" on farcaster is a little werid. its hard to really get a feeling of what those dudes are all about.

Every time i mentioned skatehive they kinda just went quiet. i guess if it doesnt have anything to do with ETH token or something they arnt into it? I guess when we get our App working maybe people will take more notice.

We went into Times square to show vlad. New York is huge and crazy. Last time i was there i really hated taking the subway but i didnt mind it so much this time for whatever reason. we stumbled upon a broadway play ticket dealer and we bought tickets to see a broadway play, Harry Potter. I wouldnt have done that on my own but Willy and Vlad are dorks and they like Harry Potter even though they are grown men.

But I must say it was definetely a highlight of the trip for sure.

Before we caught the broadway play, we had to handle our tricks at the higher skate event. there, a photographer from brazil shot some cool photos of us.

Im going to drop a bunch of photos that Amanda sent me so that i have them here for safekeeping. they are pretty cool and really add to the memory of the event.

I was trying to crook the whole flatbar and eventually got it.

another thing that i want to mention. the first day we skated McCarren park, Dylan Jaeb was there. i screen capped what he posted on instagram a week later. you can see both vlad and i in his clip haha.

It was fun to skate new york. very glad willy got vlad there and i was able to tag along and make tons of friends at the farcaster thing.

the experience of writing this post on the new skatehive website is pretty good. To be honest i usually use PeakD because the amount of time i put into writing these, i cant afford to run into a bug where it fails to post or whatever. But it seems to be working very smooth with Image Dropping ect. a youtube video preview in the preview side would be nice.

I really wish we could just use thier markdown editor thing. I dont think its open source though.

A spellcheck thing would be nice too.

I think maybe a little thing at the bottom that shows "Tagged users" where it shows who was tagged in the post might be cool. It feels good to deposit this memory on the blockchain and move on to the skate footage that I have been accumulating back in Minnesota.

What a dope post dude! Vlad forgetting his laptop on the plane is top knotch stoner style hahaha!

So cool to see skate side events being organized in crypto conferences! We should do something similar as Skatehive if one or some of us attend a conference too!

NYC looks so cool! One of my dream destinations to visit along with Tokyo!

About the edit, don't know what to comment on first! VERY GOOD SKATEBOARDING! Really laughed when you landed the kink 50-50 and vlad was like "dude"...haha! I'm sure he was like "dude... I fucked up I didn't record this" haha! Classic filming mistakes on trick makes!

Feeble down the kink was nuts, and same for Vlads wallie. And damn, must felt good to watch Dylan Jaeb skate IRL. Dude is making everything look so easy haha!

Your trips are really cool, you always make every minute worth it
