Must-have F2P Magic cards

in Gods On Chain2 years ago (edited)

Hello folks! It's your F2P guy Axii here again!! In the past 2 weeks, I've shared with you all some of the best F2P cards in Nature and War. For today, I'd like to continue the series by showing you the best F2P Magic cards that would make Elyrian feel even prouder of your decks!

A couple of reminders before we get going: the cards listed below are my personal take on the best F2P cards, which tend to be more useful for the newer players of the game. Also, welcome set cards are not listed here, so sadly Epiphany won't make it into the list.

Without further ado, let's go!!

1-mana

1 mana.png

1. Street Conjuror ($1.59)
Street Conjuror is a solid card to open turn 1 for Magic decks, especially when going first. Having a lot of damage-dealing spells, many Magic decks struggle to find a decent proactive play that could help with board control. Street Conjuror solves the problem. The card is also the 4th most played Magic card in the last 30 days (GUDecks).

2. Enchanted Chariot ($0.04)
Enchanted Chariot is an okay card at 1 mana. It's definitely not the best option here but the 1 damage could be a useful answer to a Wiccan Trapper or Ghost Marauder.

2-mana

1. Tracking Bolt ($0.79)
Tracking Bolt is a no-brainer for most Magic decks. I can confidently say that as the card appears in 93.2% of all magic decks played within the last 30 days (GUDecks). And people usually run 2 of them! The card deals good damage while having the flexibility to deal with swarms, especially zombies.

2. Starshard Bolt ($0.72)
You are looking at the most popular Magic card in the past month of GU and probably for many upcoming months. Direct 4 damage to a creature at 2 mana is a lot, let me tell you! Starshard Bolt straight up makes Canopy Barrage cry in the corner. And Canopy is more expensive :D

3. Aggravated Architect ($2.11)
This is not an easy decision for me to put AA in here. By reading the ability, I think a fair amount of people would say the card is kind of optional and only goes with certain decks. However, I think we can all agree that stat-wise, the card is busted. It's a 2/4 body at 2 mana with Ward and Backline! In addition, I'm seeing lots of Magic decks run structures nowadays, so I thought the appearance of AA would be alright if not decent.

3-mana

1. Miraculous Familiar ($1.37)
This card is great because it's a combination of many things. The stats are fine. Blessed is fine. And most importantly, the ability to have a random spell every turn will give you a huge card advantage if the card sticks. And if you're lucky enough, you might get a game-changing spell from any domain and turn the tides completely. Miraculous Familiar is played in 85,000+ GU matches in the past 30 days - the 7th highest play rate of any Magic card.

2. All-Seeing Spire ($0.18)
Another card revolves around card advantage/card quality. If your opponent is not Magic, chances are they cannot remove this structure easily. The Spire can be played from as soon as turn 2, and its ability can help you find your key card to be in control of the game.

3. Defend the Ramparts ($0.9)
This is my favorite 3-mana drop. 2 damage to 2 units can easily kill 2 creatures in the earlier part of a match. If you control a structure, the effect becomes 3 damage to 2 creatures. Personally, I think this card is very annoying - a solid early/control card that's not easy to play around.

4-mana

1. Wyrmbreath ($0.71)
Wyrmbreath has been played in nearly 125,000 GU matches, appearing in over 80% of Magic decks in the past 30 days. Stats don't lie. The card is just value: 5 damage to a creature will most likely kill them; 5 damage to the face most likely will leave a mark. This card, alongside Epiphany, is just a signature Magic card that makes you truly feel like you're playing Magic.

2. Wall of Lightning ($0.13)
Quite a solid card to have in any Magic deck. A strong frontline card that boosts spells by 1 and does well stat-wise. It's also the 13th most played Magic card within 30 days.

5-mana

1. Ratify ($0.53)
Oh boy, Ratify is such a cool card that I have it in all of my Magic decks. It's like you're playing Exploding Kittens with your opponent, and you just slam a big-ass Nope into their face.
Nice Helian Elite you got there, mate!
Also, according to GUDecks, Ratify is played in 69,000 matches in the past month. Now that's something (I've been waiting for the entire article for this moment)

2. Crystal Rain ($0.45)
Crystal Rain is an okay wide-removal. At least it can clear out Zombies or Bladeflies. Personally, this card can either be a part of this list or not. I wouldn't mind.

6-mana and above

These cards are quite optional. I will just mention them as they are playable and affordable. They are not auto-include at all in case you're wondering.

6+ mana.png

1. Labyrinth Guard ($0.11)
A literal wall. Without Ratify or flank, your opponent will need to invest a lot of resources to pass through.

2. Astric Implosion ($0.43)
Alongside Epiphany and Wyrmbreath, this card can deal massive damage to the god and can sometimes be your win-con if there's a frontline unit blocking your way.

3. Inferno ($0.48)
The card is among the 20 most played Magic cards in the past 30 days. Works just like Crystal Rain, but more effective.

Summing up

So, this is my list of very strong F2P Magic cards that you could invest in to improve your current deck. Some of them are more "must-have" than the others, which vary from person to person and everyone is more than welcome to have their personal opinions.

Nothing ruins your match like an 8 mana creature being turned into a rat! Magic games are a bit slow for my taste, but this list is perfect for building a magic deck!

Yep, Ratify can come in handy in certain situations. You're definitely right about Magic games being slow, as opposed to War games. I sure hope to help some newer players to get the hang of Magic with these cards!
